Both the 2007 and 2008 K1200GT's DID NOT have electronic braking assist, as the 2006 did. Do your homework. I've owned both he 2007 and 2008 GTs. Their brakes are amazing and have saved my life at least twice....
RE: the brakes. I'm not sure what they're talking about. The electric brakes were standard until 2006, which is why I bought the 2007. Having owned many bikes, of which the last two were the BMW R1150RT and now the 2007 K1200GT, I know both well. As they guy said, they took some getting use to. I feel that the 07 brakes, which are the same as the 08, they're fantastic and I can tell you first hand that they saved my life in a panic stop situation where a turn signal light turned red.
I bought an 07 with every option, this bike would be the best sport tourer out there IF the bike would have stopped breaking down. The breakdowns were so severe and common I had to get rid of it(BMW did absolutely nothing for me) Blown driveshaft@600 mi, replaced IGNs twice, air box replacement, ignition sending unit replaced twice, fuel level strip replaced, battery replaced, and I was at the bikes mercy as to when it would start after it was shut down. I wish BMW would do some quality control.
Let me guess, you're from the USA. You bought your bike at a multi-make dealership, where the sales staff aren't concerned which make or model you buy so long as you buy a bike. Here in Canada where BMW forced the dealers to be exclusive BMW dealers. Ithought I could just walk in and take ownership but the dealer spent 1/2 hr. with me going over it to ensure I knew it before I actually rode away. Too bad you got your bike from a lousy dealer, any bike can be a lemon but the dealer can sour it.
@76hondaboy Hi Honda boy, not sure what part of Canada you're from but BMW is sold in multi-make dealerships here in Calgary! Blackfoot Motorsports to be exact. Doubt me? give them a call.
My FJR will kill this bike overall for much less money. Bigger gas tank, long range, better cornering, faster and MUCH less in maintenance and maintenance costs.
When Yamaha decides to add an option list to the FJR (heated grips and seats, ESA, Xenon Headlight, cruise control, TPM, ASC, maybe even more than one color choice per year) and a real alternator, let us know. Until then go worry about your budget. And BTW, your gas tank is a whopping .3 bigger, yet uncomfortably splays your legs much farther apart then the BMW.
Bike's not Bouncing. Are you riding a horse while watching this? BMW's suspension is their second best feature. 1st comes bike longevity/resell. BTW, Fizdog, you are wrong. K1200gt comes with integral ABS II. This video sicks though.

The 2007 and 2008 K1200GT do not have electronic -assisted brakes, only the 2006 model did. What year was the bike you test rode?

They did away with the assisted brakes back in '06. What are you talking about?
