@CharliiePinkBabe1994 I agree that they make it look easy, but considering the breathing and tension of the core and legs you have to maintain in this kata, that's what makes it difficult. Your body will eventuall commits the movements in kata to muscle memory, so in that respect it does get easier. But that's when they have you apply principles like simulataneous contraction and extension of opposing muscle groups. It can get really tough but worth it.
@CharliiePinkBabe1994 No offense taken bro, thanks for responding. Good to know you're on your way to 2nd dan, however Kururunfa is a 4th dan kata. At that stage in training, there's more to it than just timing and knowing the movements. You'll find out soon enough. May it be well with you.
Very interesting. You can really see elements of Fukien White Crane and even some Wing Chun (which is related to WC) in this style, although clearly gone through many changes.
in that part of the rising hands, Uke grabs Tori from the back grabing at the same time Tor´s head, tori at this time is traped with both hands up.
then, tori move their feet to shiko dashi pulling the arms front to tori´s chest (like the kata)at the same time. then, in the part of the kata when tori opens both hands down looking the roof, tori is trowing away uke´s arms seting free, then you perform ashi barae to trow uke to the floor, then you can finish uke with tzuki.

kururunfa is a kata of gojyuryu. A dancer of the kites is more unsightly than a beginner in defiance of a meaning of the skill.

I would just love to see the bunkai to this Kata!
Particularly the part where he raises his hands together above the head.
Garywado 5 years ago
When he raises his hands above his head that is application against a full Nelson!
abenice 3 years ago
bunkai = numbered section of kata..
from, bunkai, may come oyo = application of, the numbered section..
there are various oyo in each bunkai..
the greatest mistake made by those who dont know, is assuming that, what they see is, the application[s]..
so, 'full nelson' may be part of, but isnt, all there is to the movement or waza when
actually applied..
shisoshin 2 years ago
ok what do you see then in that part of the kata
abenice 2 years ago
Excellent.
