  • I am very happy to see the vidoe The inductance of the inductor can be varied by inserting an iron core, and the capacitance can be varied by a row of switches. By varying the inductance and capacitance after you give this

  • I Love The Video It Can Increase My Knowledge The inductance of the inductor can be varied by inserting an iron core, and the capacitance can be varied by a row of switches. By varying the inductance and capacitance, we can achieve the resonance of the circuit, where maximum current

  • Steady I Really Like This Video large inductor or solenoid (L), and 200W light bulb (R) are connected in series to 120 VAC

  • how the fuck did i even get here..

  • Puh-leece, Power source not shown.

  • at least wear rubber gloves lol

  • So the resonant frequency is being changed so that an existing oscillation's frequency is at the peak. What's the existing oscillation coming from?

  • I don't understand so much what is doing in this video but is awesome :D

  • @ManganistanDraselny From the description, pulling the core in and out varies the inductance. I'm assuming it goes down when the core is pulled out. When he flips the switches, he gives it more or less capacitance. For each capacitance, there's a peak in the inductance which will get the most light out of the bulb, so he tunes the inductance to hit that peak. The charge is oscillating, & the peak is a frequency. See Wikipedia's Harmonic oscillator#Equivalent systems for the spring analogy.

  • I just wonder why this people don't take the time to build a humble diagram!??

  • where is 60 Hz RF stealing ?? wanna 60 Hz stealing for experimental purpose.

too heavy bulb, replace to small one.

  • Impedance matching ;)

  • giant dildo?

  • Gordon Freeman went to MIT... I have no doubt that this experiment will lead a portal to xen...

  • I = (1/2pi) sqrt (1/LC) remember that and you are good.

  • If you can understand this, you can probably tune the RF/IF Strips in a Radio.

  • My girlfriend lights up like that too, as I slide my salami in and out she resonates when I hit that sweet spot...

  • @Phuckinator I'm amazed it gets past the entrance or even resonates.

  • @Phuckinator

    omg funny!

  • that was done by tesla, now all you need is a disk of coper, mounted horizontaly on the near end of the iron rod, to get the disk to spin .

  • asta se anvata la orele de fizica sau anseamna ca daca cineva arata sistemul de functionare a unui radio sau tv sau pc este geniu------

  • Knife switches suck haha. They bounce for like 200ms.

  • MIT baby!

  • maybe if you use a better power switch it would be safer...

  • balls deep

  • the real question is

    - how long would the bulb light if he didnt disconnect it? -

  • This video has 'that's what she said' written all over it :)

  • Great experiment.

  • So the black box tesla changed the resistance by bouncing the radio waves through tubes tuned it with a inductor and

Caps turned oscilated the motor reverse

  • Cut the power and go the otherway farther

Exact opposite then run amp the original input to the ground water see how much power it makes might need to add a antenna

  • anyone else get a boner watching this?

  • @H0z3rz It had an effect on my Teslacles.

  • @H0z3rz yes, i was thinking of power factor correction!

  • Comment removed

  • That is one big inductor. Good thing about Inductor circuits, atleast with my speciality which is power supplies is there amazing job at maintaining current, however dam voltage variations kill me. It's no problem, adding a large capacitance capacitor at the end of the Pi filter helps a little bit. That and come on, the end result is going to be through a IC regulator. But I don't adding solid state with power supplies, with a few exceptions.

  • MIT using KNIFE switches? Isn't that a little "Frankensteinish"? It's also a very serious shock hazard!

  • @xrayrep I think they know what there doing!

  • one hell of an inductor

  • l like your video, but that is best understood i you can explain it.

  • Neat !

  • thanks alot for sharing

  • I'd like to see MIT demonstrate the principles of Ed Leedskalnin's flywheel..

  • @TheRealVerbz saaaaame

  • @Blazinnig Listen to the story of Victor Grebbenikov also. If you like Ed Leedskalnin then you'll like Grebbenikov.

He did stuff that I think the Egyptians were doing. Don't even need a flywheel. Whoa.

    watch?v=_ChsZUwqTeE

  • @TheRealVerbz thanks man

  • Hallo Herr austinat!!)))

  • fail blog

  • What's so special about MIT? They seem overrated and overpriced. I bet our physics department at NYU is better.

  • if you wanna know what is so special about MIT you have to check out the masterminds they graduated since long before

  • Simple, basic serial resonant circuit. Example of adjusting resonant frequency to 60 Hertz of mains supply. Out of resonance the circuit has much higher impedance, and current becomes insufficient to light the bulb.

On the contrary, parallel connection of L and C in series with bulb will result in opposite effect: high impedance on resonant frequency, and bulb shines only out of it.

Principle is used in tuning radio receiving devices to receive only desired frequency from antenna.

  • god! where is politics everywhere???

allt he videos, songs movie trailers mtvs entertainment shows

ppl just can somehow start a topic on some random political shit.

    so sick of it!

  • ppl are sick of political shit.

we don't rely on politicians any more.

    we solve problems ourselves.

  • hear, hear!

  • fap, fap..fap, fap, fap, fap..fap

  • @Mrbaltimore108 haha.

  • .net

  • I second on the dirty mind 0_o

  • WTF is with the idiots in this thread going on about Tesla? This video is not about MIT taking credit for an RLC circuit, it's a demonstration showing that changing one parameter in a resonant circuit also requires the other to be changed to achieve resonance again.

Take you're free energy bullshit into another thread where 'free' health care and unicorns co-exist.

  • @shockolanu

We also learn some of these concepts in highschool in the states. Thanks for the insight into the Romanian education system.

  • We learn about this stuff in high school too. It's just that people review physics here so that they are better professionals and more prepared for grad school.

I encourage you to come here for college because the American University system is the most reputable in the world.

  • @adisharr hey, while It is possible to agree with your sentiments regarding obviously deluded commenters.

Please keep in mind that in the UK we do have free health care and regularly vote it the thing we are most proud of as a nation.

You are right to keep this thread on topic, but hypocritical if by doing so your introduce your own right wing politics.

  • @marsCubed

I'm glad you have a system that works for you in the UK. The same system would absolutely fail here in the US. Our government is barely capable of managing our social security system let alone something as complex as healthcare.

You're right though - this doesn't belong here - the free energy idiots just get me worked up to no end.

  • @adisharr It is up to you guys to decide how to run your country, I hope we in the UK may be good examples for your information.

Other states like Norway invest even more and have as a result low crime, the most equal and wealthy populations in the world, the best educated too.

Personally I wish the UK was more like Norway.

Seems to be a good alternative to myopic competition and limited scope of debate ATM.

  • @marsCubed I couldn't agree more however I don't think we have it in us to do that. Our population is too uneducated and our kids priorities are focused on all the wrong things. A lot of people just don't want to work for anything anymore.

  • We can get cheap healthcare. But no, we can't get free healthcare or free energy. Those are actually less possible than unicorns, ironically. Theoretically, one could genetically modify a horse to grow a horn. It's utterly impossible on all levels to create energy. It's impossible to take care of health at no cost whatsoever. Even future technology still will require some input.

  • there is no free energy, energy can only be changed into different forms

  • Did you bother to read my post? I explicitly stated that it is impossible to create energy.

  • i didnt say create i only said change it's form

  • Oh, wait, were you not disagreeing with my last post?

  • Comment removed

  • With the risk of sounding dumb, would you mind to put an ammeter on the input of power source?

I would like to know the effect of resonance on energy draw...

    Thanks!!

  • I have a dirty mind... I'm glad i didn't type what I was gonna type... you should be too.

  • YES! this is tesla work! tesla took it one step further and used only one wire! i show this on my site if u guys are interested!

  • nikola tesla....need we sat more.

Yes,,,bring back our fucking free power

  • FLASH! Hundreds of years after the discovery of inductance and capacitance, MIT discovers inductance and capacitance.

We have got to get the dumb down chemicals out of our food and water. These zombies will someday be in charge.

  • ok is it inducting a charge from the air or is there a power supplie not shown if not you could be gitting close to teslas magic box

  • awesome video! the principles of RLC/LC resonance are very intriguing! it's great to see a real demonstration, at at low voltage instead! thanks for the video

  • It's like you pushing someone on a swing. You do not need alot of energy to do it, but you do need to push it at the right time. The right time is the frequency, which has match with how long the swing is and the force of gravity. You can change the frequency by changing the the radius or gravity. They change capacitor(gravity) and change induction(radius) to achieve the right frequency. When they reduce capacitance, they have to push the rod in to increase inductance. Watch it closely.

  • Oh sorry i understood im such an ass... :-)

  • i understood it only somewhat.. u see im a student and i just learned about this at school. Can somebody pls explain me what is actually happening ? i see he is adjusting the inductance by taking the iron core in and out but how does that help ?

  • Ever see a Tesla coil powered radio set. People say it had no battery. An interrupted coil primary might be able to generate radiant energy. Tesla also had a bulb indicated in a radiant energy patent.

  • Once, I had a cat. I called her Penworthy. She went missing. I think she got run over by a car. I was sad.

  • that is such a horrifying story. U r in my prayers

  • Michael Faraday!!!

  • Why don't you just reroute power from the warp core through the plasma conduits and direct a subspace tacheon pulse using the main deflector? That would be much more effective at lighting a bulb.

  • This is the first video who's comments I cannot manage to understand no matter how hard I try. Are you guys from MIT? Why the arguing? sick...

  • because some are having trouble understanding i will attempt to explain: to simplify things depending on the combination of capacitors which resist a change in voltage inductors (which resist a change in current) and resister (light bulb, resist all current) you get a different resistance and it allows so much electricity to go though to light the bulb, by opining switches you are changing the capacitance, does that explain things a little better?

  • i should also add this only works for AC circuits, AC meaning alternating current which means the current and voltage osculates at about 60 hz in the us and 50 in other places. this is how the old equalizer works too. your input is an audio signal which is just a bunch of waves, you then move your sliders up and down which changes capacitance and that changes how much electricity is let through.

  • You guys are funny

  • at resonance Xc=Xl

solving for resonant frequency we have:

Xc=Xl; substitute formula for xc, xl

    1/(2*pi*f*C) = 2*pi*f*L

    we got:

f^2=1(4*pi^2*L*C); taking the square root of both sides we have:

    fr=1/(2*pi*L*C)^1/2

  • actually your final step is wrong.

after taking root on both sides you'll get

    fr=1/ 2*pi*(L*C)^1/2

the root is only for "LC" and does not include 2pi

  • actually your final step is wrong

after taking root on both sides you'll get

    fr=1/ 2*pi*(L*C)^1/2

  • Correct!

  • ok,a SERIES RESONANT CIRCUIT makes the most current at resonance, resonance happens when the inductor and capacitor are in a perfect phase between induction and capacitance, its like filling one cup and then filling the other efficiently. a PARALLEL RESONANCE CIRUIT, like teslas work, allows the reduction of current to almost zero(possibly zero at really high voltage)with the same phasing of induction to capacitance and allows really efficient power conversion when applied for human consumption

  • ok get it through UL and into Wal-Mart grid-tie products? :)

    Bring it home!

  • So, is anyone going to actually measure how much power is coming from the wall and compare it to how much is passing through the bulb. That massive iron slug makes resonance impractical but, you've got to recognize an over unity device when you see one. If Q=50 1/50th of the power is being drawn from the wall, and 50 times that is passing through the bulb. MIT Dummies.

  • You're a raging idiot you know that? People like you are the reason stupidity should hurt.

  • The crowd that shares your opinion, lack of understanding, and the absolute lack of an education in Electronics, of not having had one Year of College, represent the social group that is so large, this world and it's environment will be totally destroyed and life on Earth will cease. You've got too many friends that share the same opinion, and too many people with too much money are just as bold, outspoken and as wrong as you, and that is why there will be no solution to our existing problems.

  • I have a degree in physics from cal poly. What is your education? For example, I know that the words "year", "college", "electronics" and "earth" aren't capitalized. That's because I, unlike you, have an education.

Trying to disprove the law of conservation of energy is like trying to disprove gravity. And besides which, if you knew even the slightest bit about electrical theory, you'd know that the bulb actually sees LESS current overall than if it were connected directly to the wall.

  • You spell less in all capitals, and it's in the middle of a sentence.

The light bulb sees the same amount of power for the same brightness. The primary sees the same amount of power as the secondary. But, mutual inductance causes the inductive reactance of the primary to change, and the resonant frequency. The slug tuned circuit shows that in order for the resonant frq to be the same an adjustment must be made. Resonance of a capaictor & coil in parallel is higher than either alone.

  • It is proper grammar to use capitals to denote emphasis online where other conventions such as italics are not available.

Everything you said below this is just incoherent babble. There is no primary and secondary windings, this is a solenoid, not a transformer. Also, these aren't connected in parallel, they are connected in series.

    You are still a moron.

You obviously have some sort of learning disability. So enjoy throwing around buzzwords as if you knew what they meant.

  • Not enough room in the 500 words granted to text box to make any sense. It is simple, if you have a Degree in Physics, you are not doing the math concerning inductors, parallel resonant circuits, transformers, and you're not doing any labs, and maybe your degree is a minor and you can calculate how far you can throw something. But, fact remains you don't know the physics of this circuit, nor understand it.

  • This is a simple inductance circuit that uses capacitance to balance the current based on the position of the core. There's nothing mystical here. You are just an idiot.

  • You are a member of a peer group, that doesn't understand the first thing about a solution, nor the math that involves it. If you were doing the research, you wouldn't have a clue in which direction to look for a solution. The social group you represent has money, and plenty of people without an education in Electronics or Applied Physics on a College Level, that consitantly speaks out, like those with the education that don't do the math.

  • You don't even know proper grammar. So tell me, in this circuit, what laws of physics are demonstrated. Please back it up with the math you claim to know.

  • What good is grammar when you only pretend to understand physics.

  • Once again, I have a degree in physics. What do you have?

  • I don't believe you have a degree in physics, writing maybe.

  • If you don't believe in conservation of energy, you already prove you don't know a damned thing about physics.

  • Also, once again tell me how you "burn water" with a microwave. Because frankly, I'm impressed you can even operate a microwave.

  • About burning water, first there are coal fires underground that support cyclic chemical reactions and cyclic exothermic chemical reactions. If you would have read everything under the (more info) link, you would have found plenty of research papers that supported every point of what I had said. Too bad.

  • Coal burning underground has nothing to do with electrolysis. And the "burning water" experiment you did has NOTHING to do with water. The lit match is introducing carbon atoms witch reflect microwaves and cause arcing. That's all.

  • rivetgeek, what will you do right now, if I put my hand, and ask the Teacher in a video?! I wonder what your grade looks like.

  • Id laugh hysterically as they put the dunce cap on you.

    w = sqrt 1/LC

There is no "Q". You are a fucking moron, and you are embarrassing yourself with your psuedo-science babble and utter lack of any real knowledge.

Also, once again, this isn't a a fucking transformer. There is no reflected impedance this is nothing more than a harmonic oscillator. You continue to speak and prove yourself a fool.

  • XL = 2*pi*f

    XC = 1/(2*pi*f)

In all of that, you still haven't figured out that the light bulb still uses the same amount of energy for the same amount of brightness. When XL and XC are equal and in parallel and f is the impedance of the the two is higher than either one. The bulb never uses less energy. But, the higher f, the higher the effeciency, the primary will use less, and the bulb will use just as much. A transfomer only operates around inductance, that includes reflected impedance

  • f is the frequency, not the impedance. That is the equation for solving for inductive reactance. You can google equations you don't understand all you want but the fact remains that you don't know what you are talking about and I'm done wasting my time with your stupidity.

So you go ahead believing a simple rlc circuit is breaking the first law of thermodynamics.

  • You need to plot some graphs, and start with the equations.

  • Oh man. You're in your 40's? That's just sad. I would have expected this tin-hat bullshit from some 17 year old.

How does it feel do know over half your life is gone and you don't know a damned thing?

  • I suppose that if I look up your profile, you told your age too.

  • My age isn't the concern here. I'm not the idiot claiming that this simple circuit is a proof against conservation of energy.

  • Inductance, mutual inductance, reflected impedance, resonance, do the math. I am 100% certain that standing next to the river, cannot measure by looking how wide it truly is. Likewise you cannot determin how deep. So, to say that there is no way a 100,000 gallons of water could be rushing past any given point of it. But, if I did the math, measurements, and I knew, you kept acting like there's now way. That is exactly where you are.

  • You don't even make sense. I'm done wasting my time on you. enjoy wasting your miserable life.

  • You are like a religious extremist, carrying around a physics book as if it were The Theory of Everything. You look at yourself and the classes you've taken, the piece of paper you hold as if it's proff that you understand the true substance of the Universe and all that is in it. Real Scientists, never think that way. Because, they know that just like when they started the class, or graduated, that this class covers one corner of infinity/the Universe, and there is forever to learn.

  • I like it! Neat resonance demo!

    John

  • I agree with firewilson81: please explain in words and show what this experiment is like. Without explanation nobody will understand whats going on here.

  • By moving the iron core inwards he is increasing the inductance, and by switching the capacitors off, that are in parallel, he is decreasing the capacitance.

  • guys i have successfully sent energy through one wire using nikola teslas one wire principal! its very important science if anyones interested! thanks

  • um yeah big woop you can do that with AC just shove it in the ground and you have a circuit...

  • its alot different lol please dont watch then :) im begging you! have a nice day.

  • that's a big inductor...

  • since this is above the average persons understanding what you are actually doing, not that people are dumb, but because people are involved with other topics in their life, and this is specialized, so please would you do this: explain what is going on in everyday language and so everyone who is not familiar with physics and electronic jargon to know what it is that you are doing, and it would be nice if you talk in the videos, your face is familiar from the others, thank you.

  • the circuits will look different and also function differently, teslas work is alot more special and beyond these basic resonant circuits and he truely was a discover in series and parallel resonant circuits.he was also able to take what he learned and apply it to a earth power and internet system 100 years ago, his first tower was wardenclyffe, and his reseach was at colorado springs.here he created special circuits that allowed energy to be tapped anywhere on earth from a centralized station.

  • Comment removed

  • nikola tesla!! yeaaa! theres more importance to this circuit than people realized. really its the parallel resonance circuit thats important for a world wide energy transfer system and a one wire transmission system created by tesla, which disproves a closed system principle. i put up information on it or just search nikola tesla wireless power.

  • impedance ftw!
