  • Hi Garrison, I was a student of yours back in 1984. I bought the original book from you and have since bought the newer published version at Berklee Press. I was happy that this information made it to publication. I have always found this information extremely helpful and refer to it often during various practice sessions. I am still playing and actually find it more enjoyable today. Have never tired of exploring this instrument. Thank-you

  • @slinkybear Thank you! That original book is a collector's item ; > )

  • Hi Garrison!

I am currently reading you book from Berklee press. Do you have any tips on guitarists/jazzmusicians that have influenced you, that I can listen to?

I have another question too, is it essential to learn all the examples in the book? or are they simply examples of the thinking?

    Thanks!

  • Thinking of getting your book "Jazz Improvisation for Guitar: A Melodic Approach". I'm sure it would really help me. I also have a two month old Campellone Standard that I ordered directly from Mark. 1 3/4 nut width, 25" scale, 17" width, 3" depth and 21" body length. I also have a Kent Armstorg hand wound floating PU on it. Even Mark was surprised at the projection on my guitar! Thanks for the lesson!

  • Hi Mr. Fewell,

Its a great lesson. Is the downloadable. could you send the link.

    Thank you!

  • Hi Mr. Fewell,

thanks for the video! Quick question about the Campelone you're using: Please let me know the body depth, pickup make and string strength you're using. Thanks a mill and love your Lady of Khartoum CD :-)

    Simon

  • It's a Campellone Deluxe: 17" wide, 20&1/2" body length, 3" rim, 25" scale fingerboard. The custom option on my Deluxe is a built-in humbucker pickup, tone + volume controls and an input jack also built in. Sort of like the feel of a Gibson Johnny Smith but much more balanced (doesn't have that big headstock) and with a more open tone where each note rings clear and is balanced throughout the entire range of the instrument.

I hope that covers it. Let me know if you need more info.

  • Mr. Fewell, thanks for your prompt reply!

    A Gibson Classic 57 humbucker?

Reason for questions are discussion w Mark about custom design & I'm undecided btwn 2.5" to 3" body depth (any recommendations pl?). I'm looking for a cross btwn Johnny Smith and Barney Kessel (60s 2x florentine).

Two further issues are: (1) Any advice on your experience with a full solid maple top back & sides? (2) Do you have experience with the Charlie Christian single coil?

    Any thoughts are much appreciated!

  • Thank You Garrison. Let's stay in touch indeed. : )

  • Yeah thank you so much for posting this! I really appreciate it! : )

  • Thanks Sam, I'm honored to have the opportunity to interact with appreciative and savvy guitarists like yourself. Let's stay in touch.

  • Man that first 21 seconds of this video was so sweet it made me want to holler. If it wasn't 11:50 pm and the rest of the family wasn't sleeping I probably would've.. :)

    Thanks for posting this..

  • Good idea not to wake the family up - It was 3:00 am (European time) when I finished posting this. Thinking about your comment, I really would like to record one where I don't talk and just play. I'm getting around to that... I hope the close- up shots help - I didn't have those in the last pair of lessons.

    Garrison
