Hey, I was wondering if you could do me a favour. I am at University studying Sports and Exercise Science. I'm studying the perfect technique for a Javelyn throw and would like to use a video of Tom Petranoff. Do you think you could email me a video of one of his throws?
hello im the friend of a little boy i like to call pao FRESHMAN STATE JAVELIN CHAMPION OF THE WORLD he threw it 124 feet and trains with TOM PETRONOFF all the time. he is the best EVER.
tom petranoff is a living legend. I work with him 10-12 times per year, and he has given me priceless advice ranging from pre-meet routines to precision approaches. he was never seriously injured in his javelin career because of his impeccable form. thank you tom for you contribution to the sport! Throw Far!
i converse quite regularly with Tom , never met him personally but hopefully this summer we will be throwing together he has been training again , yup he is over 50 now and still hasn't been injured , by the way my pb was 205 feet in highschool my college days were in the university of vietnam, picked up the stick again after 35 year layoff and dabbling in other sports and recreations, someof which i still do quite actively at age 57 , not elite but good enough to suit me
hes a coach here in rhode island for obvious reasons (his daughters) i have spoke with him a few times and he gave me a few pointers the man is incredible
Have u every met TP? His arms were never very big but he had a super strong core. He used it to cleanly transfer all of his power into the javelin. Even if they did what do u throw?
NoDeOfRAnViErJaV....hmm interesting. Well perhaps you didn't know that after the javelin came out, Tom Petranoff was living in South Africa. It was THERE that Tom threw 297 with the new javelin. So I concur, FORM, TECHNIQUE, THE BEST... Not writing anymore as YOUR research is obviously incorrect.
young gents you guys weren't even a twinkle in your dads eye when Tom threw 327 feet 2 inches, the old floater jav as it was called required technique not strength as you have spouted , as an old man as you would say back in the sixties at 170lbs my pb was 63 meters in high school or 206feet maybe 8inches, T was thin and wiry no muscle man we threw with technique the new javelin the one you use favors the stronger less finesse thrower,
Tom at his peak stood 6 foot one 215lbs, and the old floater took finesse not strength, just ask anyone from that era, yes there were strong guys back themn but Tom wasn't one of the big guys , cripes now a days you got guys 6 ft 3inches 230 lbs that is big or they are all over 6 ft 4 or better and lean mean fighting machines that snatch more than some guys can bench press, Bud Held one of the greatestwas thin and whispy yet he threw 260 feet back before most of the now throwers were thought of
I'm going to leave you with this piece of information. Tom threw 327 in 1983. Uwe Hohn throws 343 in 1986. A new javelin is designed right after Uwe Hohn's new record. What does Tom do? He throws it almost 300 at his first meet with the new implement. This was 3 years after his PR and he was still able to overcome. It was all technique. The best.
i completely disagree. tom petranoff is my core coach and he is far from just a "strength" thrower. he had the best technique in the game and still does. he always emphasizes technique before strength. he was able to throw 327 because he was the best, not because he had big legs and big arms
i'm just saying not for the big time throwers but the regular high school throwers it was easier for them to get all of those longer distances, using strength more than technique
anytime just got back from a throws meet The Long and Strong Classic , met some old friends made a few more, had a great tie as usual took the bronze nedal in the mens 55-59 hammer throw came as a surprise
Where do you find the Javelin forum.I saw Tom's daughter Leigh throw in the New England Championships along with Danica Ham And Laura Stern. All three are good throwers. I am a High School Javelin coach in Vermont
Mr. Petranoff truly is one of the event's masters ... and he's such a nice guy! I had the honor off both meeting him and throwing against his daughter at the Jr. USATF U.S. Tryouts in Indy a week or two ago.
sorry young man i hate to burst your bubble but the reasoning was for the safety factor not because of the flat landings, you weren't even around yet , sorry but get your facts straight, in fact they still get flat landings its called missing the point
they didnt change the javelin because of uwe hohns 104.80m but because the javelins were landing flat to much. it dosnt make a difference wether he threw 104m or not they still would of changed it they were developing the new spec a couple of years before hohns wr. every thinks its hohn because the way the press writ about it...
yes with the new rules javelin , Tom set it using a Pacer Held Custom III , it was broken the following year by Uwe Hohn of Germany using a Pacer Held CustomIII , that throw was 343 feet plus the reason why they changed the configuration of the javelin was for fan safety reason officals were afraid that the javelin would sail into the crowd
yes it was set using a javelin designed by Dick Held an american , the mens past 3 world records were all set using american made javelins , all designed by Dick Held , the master
i couldn't find the original post but this video deserves to be seen by all glad your happy , and yes indeed it was cool that He did that but again thats Tom Petranoff , sure wish this master thrower can be 1/3 as good
I happen to know the guy personally who did the video...Me! :) Tom was the first to reply to it on the Javelin forum which was indeed a cool moment for me.
this video was done by a fellow javelin thrower , who also is a Tom Petranoff Fan , us throwers are a close group who love the sport, anothernote is that in all his years of throwing Tom Petranoff was injury free talk about a total commitment to a sport and yes he is always there when you ask for advice it is an honor to know a man of his caliber
