@villagefem Fishing line is the best but anything will work. You need to string it around the bow multiple times, I had 6 wraps of the fishing line for better grip in the drill stick.

@RobertsDigital Shoe laces, clothing strips or bark plaited into a string, long straight stick to spin between your palms - but that takes 2 people taking turns. To be honest you need to remember to take the string, or matches or lighter for that matter. Or get a girlfriend that doesn't feel the cold so much.

@42cody1 I have used fishing line and poly prop line. It does need to be tight on the bow then you wrap it around the drill so it gets even tighter. The fishing line eventually heated up and broke. Using 6 fishing line together.
