First heard this piece on the radio while on a trip to Toronto. Took me months to try to attach the melody to a composer but sooo glad I did. A beautiful piece played by an extremely talented group. A beautiful tribute. Congratulations Mr Shtern, a belated birthday wish.
reminds me of a scene from The Searchers (or practically ANY) of the old John Wayne movies i watched as a kid, where he's worn out and riding back into the "civilization" of a cowtown... much the way i feel after a long day! this is like my theme song for a hot, tiresome day in texas lol. appreciate it!
this piece of music is just beautiful. I first heard it as the theme music to Reilly Ace of Spies and spent ages tryin to find where it came from. thanks to whoever posted it.
just fyi - Andre Rieu has a CD in which he plays classical music from movies, and the Gadfly version is awesome (he plays on a Stradavari violin)... I do agree that, played as a group, it sounds good too...
This is from the incidental music that Shostakovich composed for the movie, The Gadfly, in 1955. The movie was adapted from the novel of the same title by Ethel Lilian Voynich first published in 1897 in the US.
Wow, beautiful sound, so soothing

Desperately need to slow down, this is a romantic piece (obviously) and they are hurrying through it, no feeling in this version.

One of the nicest recordings of this piece - the musicians clearly love the music and Abram Shtern - just lovely.
