  • Famoz melody

  • I meant, "who TAUGHT Beethoven" and for that matter Schubert too; I admit to the discrepancy of their ages.

  • For a mediocre composer, Salieri did one fine job on this piece :)

Hey, anyone who was both taught and respected by Beethoven, the Maestro himself, couldn't be half bad!

  • ~not to mention....his music was used in Iron Man. :3

    Oh yea.

  • The movie "Amadeus" makes him look like the bad guy... Damn shame his genius isn't as appreciated.

  • @jasonextreme

true, but who wouldn't be jealous of Mozart?

  • This is very beautiful.

  • an orchestra is an orchestra

  • vraiment bien !

  • this is good thanks for posting

  • I feel Salieri's Folias variation are among the most beautiful ever composed, even being so great another musician seduced by this miesterious and noble melody. In Salieri's sounds more than sad, dark, quite bitter, opressive, perhaps due to the massive symphonic orchestration, which do with the melody something vaste, widely tragic...

  • His music shows a brilliance not heard in most other composers of the time. I prefer this over Mozart's usual music.

  • You're so right. I don't think that mozart did anything with this kind of orchestration, with so much feeling. this piece match Beethoven overtures!!!!!!!

    Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Trovo che l'orchestrazione abbia concesso un po' più del dovuto allo spirito ottocentesco. Per il resto, bello!

  • i think that is a central point of the history of music. so tragic!

  • I love the scoring of the winds and the way he uses them to wag the tail of this theme. The textures underscore a brilliantly contrasted episodic expressive grasp that never allow this attention to wander in the slightest.

  • I like both versions so well I couldn't possibly choose--it would be contingent on what mood I was in as to which I woud choose to listen. This is a stunning composition at either speed-the best variation of La Follia I have heard.

  • Exelent. Thanks!

  • In my opinion the best variations of the Theme 'La follia di Spagna' in the History. Bravo Maestro Salieri.

  • @VeniceToDance i dont speak Italian, but i have try to understand what you want to tell me, and i only has expressed my opinion. For me is the best variations of the Theme, i have listen the others and i prefer Salieris one. Regards

  • @VeniceToDance The famous Sarabande of Händel

  • @Mariadinesalvador The two pieces are unrelated. They simply share a common ancestor: a very old theme (the first manuscripts date from around 1660) that was used by Lully (Les Folies d'Espagne) Vivaldi (La Folia), Correlli (La Folia), Salieri and indeed Handel. I'm sure I'm forgetting loads of other composers who used it.
