In lamens terms could someone just let me know that if the Eva's were so dangerous then why were they using them? and what is Rei exactly? and is Shinji gay for Kaworu or did he really like Rei or Asuka.....I'm so confused, I watch the series on CN and I still don't get it.
@harmonyXsuzukaze 1) they used them because there are the only thing that can fight the angels, and because thay WANTED to bring 3rd impact (Gendo and SEELE are pretty crazy)
2) Rei is a human/angel hybrid (Yui Ikari / Lilith)
3) Shinji's attraction for Rei is like a sense of kinship. Instead he was sexually/romantic attracted by Asuka.The Kaworu/Shinji thing was not attraction in any way. Kaworu happened to be the only person to show him affection in the middle of that mess

about what actually happend: Shinji rejected the "false-perfect" world of 3rd impact and went back to the real world. If you watch again the scene where he say "goodbye" to his mother, she says that everyone who has the will to live can reform himself and come back to the real world. Asuka is obvious one of the firsts (if not THE first). So, yes, he does save all humanity (or at least those who want to live)

After one year, when Evangelion became a success and tons of money arrived, they decided to finish it. So they made the movie The End of Evangelion. This scene is this movie
You can consider the 2 episodes and EoE the same story from 2 points of view

Asuka is the best evangelion character! She was always so brave, even when she was in the worst situation. And what did Shinji do here to help her? Nothing he was just there being a little pussy. I love this scene but not the part where she loses.

Every main character of Eva is insane. But Asuka is my kind of insane. She is a beast when gets mad, the model of women's rage.
At least she really was the best pilot of the trio and finally got her share of fun. One can dream to fail like she did.
