I can't tell if you're joking, but um... Sondheim IS gay. He just has had a very lonely life and doesn't connect with people well. I don't believe he's ever been in a romantic relationship before. So most people don't know WHAT his sexual orientation is, with nothing to base it on... unless you judge him on the fact that he's a composer for musical theatre, in which case you're stereotyping. Nevertheless, it's terrible that most geniuses are deprived of normal lives.
Sondheim is gay, he came out shortly after writing "Passion". Not that it matters really, I consider him to be the best musical theater composer and BY FAR the best lyricist of all time, for all genres of music.
I wouldn't say he's lonely, but his mother hated him and he's never been in love. That said, this man is a genius.
You are a weirdo. I've been a Sondheim fan for years, but I think it's a little strange to go so far as to presume to know how lonely his life has been. How on earth would you know if he's been in a "romantic relationship" before? It's not like he's got a 24-hour paparazzi peeking through his bedroom window. So he's gay and he doesn't like to shout it from rooftops. Big deal! Just appreciate the work and keep your nose out of his dirty laundry.
I love his work, and while reading an essay on a piece from "A Little Night Music" it referenced one of his biographies. I picked up the book and read it, and he talks a lot about how lonely his life has been. I'm sorry that I spent my time researching a fascinating person in an attempt to better understand his work...
And how is being gay anything dirty? Homosexuality is a completely natural part of life, and I am in no way a bigot. My point was that it's sad that he's lonely, gay or not.

I'm with ItalianDivo101: Just the mention of Sondheim on a TV show, even a cartoon as uneven as "Family Guy", makes me feel good.
The musical parody could have been better--it sounded more like Jule Styne than Stephen Sondheim.
I *love* the warning for Sondheim fans. In Spanish, no less!

Not Family Guy.

Oh, right. I meant to say that just the mention of Sondheim, even a cartoon as uneven as "American Dad," makes me feel bad.
The rest stands OK.
Thanks, timemonkey, you're right; I made a sloppy mistake.

You're welcome. I figured it was just a thinking one thing, typing anouther. I do the same thing all the time.

Er, and I messed it up again! "... makes me feel good" is what I meant. LOL

first of all i love sondheim, i would never stereotype, and second of all im pretty sure he isn't gay...

First of all, I'm sorry if that came off as attacking you or something, that wasn't what I meant at all. I hope you're not offended.
Secondly, in his multiple biographies, it explicitly says that he is gay, and he has answered questions directly about it in interviews.
I hope that clears things up...

That was a great "American Dad" moment. I'm such a loser: any time there's a Sondheim joke on TV I'm all, "OMG! VALIDATION! VINDICATION!"
