  • I used to drive a GS in Europe when I visited, and boy that car was a lot better than the Chinese Ssangyong they had during that time. French cars are still safe and good, some were unreliable, but the GS was very safe at its time.

  • long ago I crashed with my GS in a comparable way and a comparable speed (with a speed of over 90 kms right in the flank of an heavy loaded Ford Stationcar). Most striking detail was, that the very flat boxer-engine was pushed under the car, so the passenger compartiment stayed fairly well in form.

  • The ugliest car ever made...

  • Do you really think this is made with the usual 64kph?

    If, there wouldn't rest much

  • citroen are well built cars, china car sux!!

  • todays chinese car are paper compared to 70's french citroën

  • GS's rock!!!!!!!!

  • Cars back then do not have the same top speed as new cars.....

  • I crashed a 1973 GS 1220 Club into a stone wall at about 80 kph (50 mph) (3/4 FRONT END !!) and just opened the door and ran home with a very small cut on my head (I was 19 and it was 3 o'clock in the morning). Furthemore, taste is debatable but to me it is prettier than almost anything in its class and age, plus I'm stil alive so I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

  • @xanado74 Shut up for christ sake , no one is interested in your boring story

  • @SpecialAndNotDumb two thumbs up...some people are i guess

  • @MDIVISIONRULES derrrrrrrrrr

  • uh.. every single car no matter what year, can do this test at this speed...

  • @KillanatorVids uh.. this is in slow motion, maybe?

  • @pingpongpung yes, and? Of course I can see that its in slow mo ;)

  • But I love also the Citroen as a brand itself. It made alot alot of inventions. Very useful inventions

And todays Citroens are very very safe,(one of the safest in the world) very good on the road and the prizes are very fair and democratic.

So it wasn't my intention to bash Citroen as a brand,

watch?v=YhuEoX_y0qY&NR=1 have fun watching this one

  • this is acutally bad, really bad, because all the energy that the car doesnt absorb, goes to the driver.which means he will injure his inner organs, leading to a slow death

  • this car weight is only 600 kg the test was pure propaganda, those cars were not safe at all.

You would be better of in a Lada in the 80's than those french cars from the 80's

  • @215alessio The Citroen GS was first released in 1970 which means its design would date back to the mid 60s. The GS was the most technologically advanced car in its class at launch with class leading comfort, SAFETY and aerodynamics

Lada's from the 80s were essentially Fiats froms the 60's ie 124s which were known for their outdated technology, poor fuel economy and tank-like roadholding.

  • @livc44411 Indeed those wre fiats from the late 50's/ early 60. Anyway they were alot alot safer than the GS. poof fuel economy, no they were very good, they could burn 3 fuel mixes even they had engines from the 50's LPG, Metan and Gasoline.

If you tried that with citroen you would melt down the engine.

and ofcourse tey had a self substaining shell FIAT 124 platform, citroens bodyworkswere bolted down on some kind of chassis structure.

About road holding it is true for both cars poor

  • @215alessio LMAO... you suck so much !

  • This reminds me so much of the Renault Advertisement were the bread collides with the wall! XD...

  • well it did well . unlike the chinese crap car, it performed better

  • @boyuchuadaniel no.. its not better

  • WIth more effective seatbelts, it would have been much better for the driver's condition but the car did really a good job for the 70s. Chinese brand new models are just suicidal!! DON'T BUY CHINESE CRAP!!!!!

  • i have had an accident with this car with my parents in 1980 .. we were injured but not dead ..;we can thank GS finally . not so bad for this period

  • front driver = dead or serious injury !

  • @juice0105 the key word is "today". That's not "today", that's "long time ago"

  • acident tragic

  • no estaba maal eh

  • 1970 good design.

  • very strong car for its time, i'd buy one of these

  • Creo que es un GSA

  • muerte segura

  • Pretty good for a GS

  • not so bad for that time... the new chinese cars are much worse :)

  • @mariusddc Uhm.. this is not offset.. all cars pass this test.. i would rather have a chinese car than this old crap..

the modern chinese car would have airbags, good seatbelts, crumple zones, and many more safety equipments..

an old car from the 80's have poor seatbelts, no airbags, awfully bad crumple zones

  • @mariusddc They would have installed 2010 seat belts and it would have been very good, indeed.

  • @rugbytlse no way lol

  • @mariusddc lol, of course the older cars are worse than the newer chinese... the chinese are just made with bad materials, this car... this has bad crumple zones, etc

  • @mariusddc Please note, however, the modes are very different. Today, crash tests are carried out at a speed of 67 kmh on a barrier offset with respect to the central part of the car, in this way, the impact is more severe because the whole body of the car undergoes a twist!

  • how slow???

  • Surprisingly good result actually. Just because a car is old doesn't necessarily mean it's a deathtrap. Being built like tank won't always save you - being designed well, and to be strong in the right places, that will more often than not though.

  • What!? First of all, this crash test is not offset but with 100% overlap. The result is therefore not at all comparable. And the A-pillar is already losing its stability although most of the front crumble zone has not been used up yet. My result: If you are having a realistic crash in this car with 30mph or more, you will probably die or carry away serious injuries!

  • Have you ever been in a car crash?

  • good, but no airbags

  • NOT VERY BAD FOR HIS YEARS

  • nicely done for an old car

with airbags there could be high chances of survival in a crash

  • yes yeah

  • go for ford, renault, volvo, bmw they are all safe!

  • Are most of you insane? The GS is a design from the 60's and it was also one of the strongest cars in its class. Compare a Mk2 Escort to one of these. Very strong design. But it's old. New cars are newer.

Safety features are constantly making cars safer hence why your newer cars are safer. Sometimes its like reading the walls of a toilet in the comments part on youtube these days and all by people with little or no education.

  • hye fag i will fuck you rmom in the ass and cut her pussy off and twist a knife in her abdomen ahahhaa neeger

  • Are you a pirate?

  • yeh mnuaha

  • No, He's an american sexual predator.

  • you have serious problems to say something like that....

  • ASP. Your more than welcomed to take her. Though don't confuse fags with neegers you illiterate dim wit. Anyway the fags and the neegers may have something to say about that with one group buggering you while doing your hair while the other slit your throat. Lets hope they all meet with you. That way your look good on the slab!

  • nice done for an old car, if you watch the hypermodern jianglin 4x4 , a coke can is stronger than that car

  • I agree!

  • this car did pretty well

  • lol @ old cars safer than new

lol @ the idea that your car suddenly stopping then you flying into the steering wheel is safe

  • What speed? 30km/h?

  • 20 :)))

  • Probably the video wasn't even slowed down?:D

  • Guys, this isn't safe, this is horrible. You would probably break every last bone in your body because of the instant stop. Cars crumple in order to reduce pressure on your organs.

  • Way too hard.

  • The car shown is a Citroën GSA (a sort of GS Mk 2) it has flexible plastic bumbers (great for parking up against a wall) and a hatchback.

  • Old cars are safer?????

This GS probably didnt have seatbelts in the back.

They were not a requirement until 1982.

EURONCAP was created to improve the design of cars, so have a look at their website.

Most American cars have very poor results, Chrysler Voyager for example.

  • obvoisly they did not think of seatbelts and Airbags

    what a careless autoker

even Ford uses up to better safety equipment today

  • Fuck you SMARTESTINUSA,

  • why are you being so rude?

why do you hate American teens

  • Sure, Ford uses better safety equipment today than Citroën did in 1975. What a fair comparison!

  • yes you are right actually all companies do today but that because it was not around at this time

I agree that it is a fair comparison too

  • very good for a old car

  • at the end of the day you have to crash your car in to a bear?

  • lol

  • fine then assholes negative comment me, im not crazy thats the truth, old cars use heavier and stronger metals and dont crush like a soda can therefore they're safer

  • Please name one old car that had high strength steel in it's crossmembers. And was designed with safety in mind. And had crumble zones that worked and could pass a Euro NCAP 5 star safety rating. Go watch Fifth Gear crash a Volvo 740 and a Renault Modus then admit you are plain wrong.

  • 1957 Chevy, 1957 Plymouth Fury, a mutha fucking 1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO, all these cars could beat the shit out of other new cars in crash tests, ive seen them in crashes, they are even safer than most of the newer cars because they DONT crush in. they are made of high-class steel and iron, and many other string materials, ive proved my point bitch

  • Feel free and running into a wall at high speed in one of your favourites for us and report back. No wait, you'd be dead. Oh well.

  • id be alive and beating the shit out of you because im right, you aint good enough to talk to me anymore so STFU

  • i agree with you...older cars are alot safer than newer cars. why do you want a car to crumple into you and crush you? why do you want seatbelts that go 3inches shorter and crush your ribs? why do you want to spend £1000s on having airbags changed for hitting a curb?

    OLD CARS RULE

  • You are wrong. Go to school, learn normal language, take physics and anatomy classes and learn why rigid cars have caused more deaths than cars with a crumple zone. The cars you write about are deathtraps.

  • go fuck yourself idiot, a car crushing in on you is a lot worse than a car that doesnt, you dont know shit about physics and anatomy

  • Is that the only mode of writing you are capable of? I pity you... Why do you think there are safety standards nowadays? Think, man! Think! Don't be a bloody fool. Industry is totally capable of building cars that don't crumble, but everyone in them dies of internal hemmoraging!

  • first thing first..CHILL THE FUCK OUT,now that we got that out of the way,I'm under the impression that you don't know what a crumple zone is,crumple zones are not meant to crush in on you it's made so that it transforms energy in deformation,if you stop to quick, your inner organs are going to try to continue their path and so your heart, can litteraly EXPLODE if it hits the ribcage to hard, and your brain..well use your imagination, that's why your safer in a renault megane than in a older car

  • i would still much rather have a car made out of steel than made out of soda can. AKA i would rather have a strong old car than have one of these new cars that could send a piece of metal flying into my face

  • well I'm not quite sure how a car made of basicly plastic could send metal flying into your face, but that's your choice

  • That crashtest is bullshit but yes, we have learned a lot about car safety, and cars of the last few years are MUCH safer than 1950s-1970s cars.

  • your suicidal

  • Sure that's why Golf 5 weighs twice as much as Golf 1 from 1976

  • O_O very good for such an old car!

  • offcourse i have a citroën myself.. a beautifull citroen C6 also my first car was a citroen 2cv my second a citroen visa then when i had more money i bought a ax later a zx when i folded that zx around a tree and had my right leg broken i bought a saferxantia that one broke down at vacvation to greece sadly.. and i bought a xm when some stupid ass hyundai driver crashed into my side when i had it for less then 12 hours.. so i got a new xm from the dealer because they said that it was verry

  • sa that i had it for less then 12 hours so i got a new one i onlyhad to pay 100 guilders best Service ever a new car for 100 guilders ! later when the xm was getting old i bought a citroen c4 phase 1 after that in 2007 i bought this wonderfull c8 but i had a blown tire on the way back home in januari this year soi had to buy a new one because i ran into a fence and wrecked my car and now i have this beautiful new Citroen c6 thanks to the lotery though!

  • realy safe for a old car..

  • What do you expect? Its a Citroen. My dad had a 2004 Citroen C5, a guy crashed into us at 60kmh and I didnt really feel anything. And since the car had stopped, the back of it has rised, so a little bump for us, quite a bit of damage for the Chrysler Leon that crashed into us. Citroens are brilliant cars.

  • at the end of the day you have to crash your car into a bear?

  • not bad for an old car

  • I agree. Quite good for its time, with better safety belts they would have fared better. Research, research, save lives...

  • Very good for a 1970's model!

  • I would say it's pretty normal for a car of that era, maybe slightly above average. It's certainly FAR better than the Chinese Chery A15/Amulet. Just do a search for the crash test of that and you'll see what I mean!

  • Blast from the past !

    this was my first car...

  • good car......to die in

  • lol@ people thinking this car would be acceptble today or is safe in this collision,,

did nobody notice the steering column impale the driver in the chest then crush him to death?

  • I am surprised...

french car of that age had the reputation to be 'deathtraps' in a car crash...

    But this...

In modern cartests, this would still be 'acceptable'...

  • Er, no it wouldnt... Did you see what that driver looked like hitting his head to the windscreen? :D

  • In addition, if you look, it's not an offset crash test.

That thing probably WOULD fold up like an average Chinese car in an offset collision.

  • not bad for its age

  • so it actually reached the wall without rusting to pieces... shame really as the gs was a good piece of design.

  • Not 20 year old, dear 5yntr4x, the GS was launched 37 years ago, in 1970 ! And yes it seems to be a great result if we compare with the disastrous Saxo...

  • great result for a 20 year old car!

  • But.. it was 20 years ago.. Now that car is 20 year old and it crashes into pieces..

  • claro que falat colocar nos respectivos espaços ../.

  • Interessante como este agrada mais a todos lol

    forum autohoje com showthread php?t=38561

  • gs have seat bells lol

  • pesimo

  • i dont understand?? his head hits the windshield and steeringwheel, i thought the safetybelts would prevent that?? does anyone know how fast this car was driven?

  • Randroide tu te aburres mucho no???

  • that did quite well

  • quite well?! Are you insane, it had no airbags, it had no seatbelt pre-tentioners. and his head hit the steering wheel with tonnes of force. and the structural damage is atrocious

  • just look at the 2001 Ford F-150 thats VERY unsafe

  • omg i can't believe it! a gsa crash test!

my father had a GS in brown metallic and after that this GSA! it was even in the same colour as this crash test GSA! kinda baby blue colour. i wish we still had it ...

  • nada de mal para un auto de hace casi 30 años...
