  • Awesome Lap? He was 8th. What is awesome about that?

  • I was at monza in 03 and the cars were at there quickest as the had the v10 engine not a shitty cost afficent v8

  • OMG ! Today they are about 5 Seconds faster !

  • Nobody noticed that the rear end of the car is lacked a bit of traction? or was the sharper front? i think that if he solved that problem, he could gone a little bit better.. sorry for my bad english

    cheers

  • onboard from Monaco, is, frankly, where you get to see just why these guys are so special...it aint a PS3...its just skill and talent and those are real legs in the nose of that car just waiting to get smashed up if they get it wrong.

    Worth every penny they're paid.

  • @Stereolabdream skill, talent and big balls of steel...

It looks like a knife fight in a phone booth.

  • @ursavostock

lovely similie....yep, agree with you all the way.

  • @Stereolabdream - Looked at your profile. You have a nice face, at least half of it is nice anyway. Why only half?

I'd give you one anyway, or half of one.

  • Mark Webbers lap was better.

  • @dabomb2003 MAYBE HE HAS A BETTER CAR ?

  • this is sensitive camera if it was putten iinto 80's car u will fell the same!

  • 2001 Sauber petronas 15th on grid 10th race position

  • Sauber has had some techinal problems, but now they're getting better, and that's just perfect! And sad, that Kimi left, he is the master of controlling the F1 vehicle... " THE MASTER " !!! And at this hotlap, his car was also damaged...

  • Bring back V10 Engines just for the Music!

  • there is something broken on the left side of his nose if you watch closley you can see it al the time shaking around

  • @8kuh Yes the sauber did fall apart during some races that year. The team notice the piece . They said box that means to pit.

  • hard to believe that in 1990 Senna was just half a second slower than this in qualifing! What a true legend.

  • He is so insane driving :) but awesome!

  • year and tema please?

  • traction control is ruining the sound of the engine when he accelerates.

  • i miss the old timing graphics

  • Jarno Trulli's 2004 pole lap was truly stunning. He was flat out from the exit of Tabac, and through the first part of the swimming pool, shifting up, mid corner too!

  • how was it awesome when he was like 3 seconds behind 0.o

  • how much das it look like its in fast forward :O lol u can see its not coz of the clock on the screen but MAN! how they even see the turn before they gota go arond it O.o lol its AWESOME XD!

  • Look at his head when he goes up one gear... So much more power than these days, V8's suck.... Cars too easy to handle compared to the V10's.

  • @kiskk

    v8 slower...v10 more challenging...such as...perfect break at high speed

  • @kiskk That's not because of power, it's the single clutch gearbox... Today all f1 cars have seamless gearbox, something like a double clutch, so that there is no ''kick'' on upshift, power is delivered linear all the way...

  • 1:18,1

  • Is it just me or was he about to make a left at 0:37

  • @ALEXCHASE750 that or just understeer

  • why is it every time i see kimi racing whether in f1 or the time he raced legends his head is shoaking like a bobble head and he shaking in the cockpit

  • that sound ♥

  • damn so much oversteer

  • you should see kubica and webber this year..

  • god. f1 cars sounded so much nicer back then.

  • bad lap dude

  • Forza Sauber!

  • hard to believe he'd have to knock 6s off that time to make it to pole in the current F1

  • @IdleWild999

Not hard to believe at all, since the tracks are different and the engines are significantly different.

  • the today's monaco has some changes at st devont, la rascasse and piscine where there arent bariers nearby the road and i dont like it

  • @stavroswrc It's called safety .=P We don't want Alonso to go the way of Senna lol.

  • yeah thats formula one fighting!!

  • I feel like driving an F1 car watching this OMG I suffer when I see him trying to manage the car's handling after corners!

  • Anytime I watch any onboard camera shot of anyone doing a lap at Monaco in a F1 car, I wonder if they are insane... and thats just if they are doing qualifying laps! Nuts how they can run around so fast in so little space.

  • the main reason why it looks so much faster is because kimis head is being jolted around so violently, without the HANS device.

  • @tkpenalty also, the gearboxes of those times were not so smooth as today. today they've got some sorta seamless gearboxes because they change a gear to another immediately.

  • Are you guys kidding?? What s awesome here???

  • @joaquinveyron well you try it to keep the car between two walls with 200km/hrs

  • @TheSterjo Obviously, many did better. And 200 km/h, that's normal cruising speed for me.

  • @joaquinveyron Only smart people can see it.

  • traction control sounds kind of cool. in real life that is, but definitely better for driver's skill to not have tc.

  • sit hamilton in such a car. you will get a nice wallbang at the third corner.

  • this video feels so.....RAW!

    amazing!

  • Not a bad lap, but way to spam the description box.

  • Wow, I didn't even see that jordan across the start finish line.

  • nodnarbnoob - I bet he has tried driving with his eyes closed, hence Monaco qualifying 2008!

  • Kimi should come back to F1 in 2011. If Schumacher keeps underperforming the way he does now there's no way Mercedes will want to keep him for 2011.

So far Kimi has scored 14 points in World Rally Cars, and took a fine 5'th in the Turkish rally.

Only two F1 drivers did ever score points in the WRC. Raikkonen is one. Carlos Reuteman the other one. Reutemann won in Monaco in 1980 btw driving for Williams.

  • @McLarenMercedes, yeah, poor schumi, he's wasting his time. they should replace him with heidfeld. OR raikkönen.

  • I'd prefer if he still around as an alsoran, because that is what a lot of people will remember him as. Not to mention those races all count in the end and will tarnish his already questionable legacy. This time FIA are all kissing up to Alonso in the red cars, heck they are so glad to have him there to please all the fans.

  • when raikkonen hits the chicane after the tunnel, its almost unbelieble how fast he goes thru it,

id bet he could drive monaco with his eyes closed

  • @nodnarbnoob he probably couldn't.

  • His driving is simply perfect. He'd deserved more than the 2007's title....

  • are these engines v10 or v12?

  • @FISHURMOMBALL V10´s

  • wow i miss the noise of the v10

  • Don't know if I'd say it was cautious. Kimi seems to be fairly committed in a car that seems quite unstable at times under braking. The front end of the Sauber also appears quite loose.

  • What on earth makes this lap awesome?

  • @85fredi The fact that we have the car on the verge of hitting the wall is awesome. The cars in monaco drive up to as close as 1cm to the wall, especially turn 1.

  • Kimi was a little too cautious on this lap, cuz he lifts off the throttle too early at some corners, and he has more hand movement in the cockpit than the more experienced drivers at that time. But he was better in 02 when he had the McLaren, cuz McLarens were a better car than the Saubers, but Saubers were somewhat competitive back then, but not a lot. He did accelerate really early coming out of some corners and at some corners he hits the throttle right in the middle of the corner.

  • cautious...i don't know looked pretty ballsy to me imo

  • crazzzyyy

  • how d heck did he jump straight from frenault to F!?!?!?

  • The FIA was also reluctant to give him his "Super licence", and as far as I remember he only got a temporary one for a few races to start with! :-)

  • This car sounds when he accelerates like a crying baby. Anyway, much better than the V8 they are using now.

  • @FastlaneF1 I think this car had a Ferrari engine.

  • TC has just been reintroduced 2 races earlier!

Interesting to hear both wheel spin and TC interfering!

It sound like it's on a setting that allow for some whell spin, which you can hear!

Having TC set to block all wheel spin is not always the fastest, and Raikkonen may have felt he would be fastest here with more freedom to control the rear wheels himself!

  • want back V10 !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i've watched the spa '09 start so many times, taken a real close, unbiased look at it. raikkonen left the track in i think 4th place, if you pause the video and draw a straight line across the front of his car, right before he goes across the curb onto the runoff. when he re-enters the track, he gains a place on heidfeld, not by much. but heidfeld got kinda blocked out by his teammate and spent some time on the curb which i think is bumby and would've slowed him up a bit.

  • there appears to be a great sense of speed with this onboard compared to now days, or at least what they show on tv

  • Agree!

They should go back and to the non-anti-shake-function cameras they used in the early 90's and 80's!

I believe part of the reason many people claim that F1 today is soooo easy compared the "old" days, have a lot to do with the cameras!

Back then you could almost feel every bump on the track,

but the new cameras make it seem like its almost relaxing, when nothing could be less true when you're pulling 5's g's while having your kidneys shaken down your knees!

  • well that's interesting that i was right about it, but you add some good information. i love the clear new camera which were introduced at valencia '09 but you're right about the other aspects. on "Formula 1 50 years onboard" there's an onboard of a f1 car at Long Beach and man does it make you feel like you're there, just watching it on my TV, compared to the cams today! and that was like 1978

  • @Michaelingolfhansen good idea, but it would be better if they used helmet cams like they used in Champ Cars. gives u a much better sense of what the drivers deal with

  • @Michaelingolfhansen

sorry, what do you mean by non anti shake cameras

  • @beyblader10171 The cameras that are on the cars today, electronically even out all shaking, bumping and vibrations!

This means that even though the cars and drivers in reality are shaken like hell when going fast and over curbs, the cameras make it all seem smooth, which is very deceptive!

You dont get the feeling of the speed, the roughness and how much the drivers actually struggles! Now it seems like they are relaxing...there are NOT!!! :-)

  • @beyblader10171 ....this means that it would be better for the television viewers, if they went back to the cameras that did not have this anti-shake-function! (the cameras in the late 80's and early 90's gave a better feeling of actually "being there)

Then the onboard shot would be much more "real", and you would get a much better feeling of the drivers struggle!

  • @Michaelingolfhansen nice to know about the cameras. But if you look crashing now and years back then i think it tells all.

  • you can see, how difficult is to drive this car

  • Yes it also look like his getting beat up inside the cockpit lol. very rough D:

  • @jraybay jebi se konju jedan

  • boy has talent

  • How the hell did Raikkonen cheat? If he did, the FIA would have punished him. Nothing he did was illegal, last time I checked KERS was legal in 2009. And now you're saying Kovalainen struggled because of his skill, when before you said it was because of his car? I think you are the one struggling, using McLaren's pre-season testing form to explain their results all year. I agree though Coulthard sucked.

  • Journalists are not drivers... well shoeme69, ARE YOU?

If you want to see cheating at Spa, look at Hamilton 08. Fisi only lost in Spa because he sucks, if Alonso had been in that FI he would have won. Winning from 6th is more impressive than coming 2nd from pole. And Kovalainen was not treated equally by McLaren, he never got the same parts Lewis did.

  • "And Kovalainen was not treated equally by McLaren, he never got the same parts Lewis did."

Heikki always had the same parts bar once race where only 1 set of parts were available. And, rightly so, the world champion would get priority of using it first.

"If you want to see cheating at Spa, look at Hamilton 08"

He wasn't cheating according to the rulebook at the time of the incident - you cut the chicane, you give the place back, that was the rule therefore he didn't cheat.

  • Good said. There was no rule until about two week later. then that was when Hamilton was panalty. I belief Kimi dumped it into the wall later anyway. He was sloppy at the end. Hamilton put good drive in only to have it take away.

  • Lewis may have gone back behind Kimi but he still had the advantageous line and still had the momentum to carry him back in front; which highlights why the rules at the time were ambiguous as an advantage could still be had despite going back behind the other car. Besides, it wasn't a new rule, just the FIA quantifying its interpretation. I hate the way Lewis gets away with anything; when Schu cheats ppl talk about it for years, but when Lewis does ppl just say "let's just focus on the racing."

  • hAA everything Hamilton does is put under the scope and analyzed by people like you who dont like him. What schumacher did is far worse than hamilton that is why we talk about it still you fool.

  • Räikkönen drove first races with Heidfelds car setups. Becose yes he was a rookie with very little experience. Middle of the season after Kimi learn how to work with car and team. Heidfeld got no chances with him.

But after Mclaren puplish his 2002 contract. Sauber started treat him badly. No more car testing, which was big part of F1 2001(no limits). Some races they even but him to track with broken parts or just last race setups. You can read that from his book.

  • Becose they wanted to make Kimi look bad becose they already got deal with Alonso. And keep saying his not motivated anymore. lol.

But after massa injured they got no other choice than just work more with kimi.

  • In the end of season. Kimi wasnt allowed to test car any more. Petter sauber was very pissed off becose new mclaren deal. On some races they didnt even change new parts to kimis car.

And that is the reason and only reason why heidfeld was bit better end of the seaon.

  • yea stupid political shit like that happens alot, wonder if any or how much affected alonso's year at mclaren. if one of those bad races were a result of this kind of bull shit i'd be pissed, cause alonso could've been only the third driver in history to win 3 straight titles

  • with v10, räikkönen is the best! but fucking shit v8..

  • Yea he sucked so much with V8, especially in 2007 ;)

  • Try to understand us Finns, Kimi being slower than Massa and finally getting sacked from F1 has been too much drama to take for Finnish Kimi-fans. Conspiracy theories of evil Santander-Alonso-Ferrari-Massa-alliance are their only comfort during these dark days.

  • @shoeme69 just before you were babbling how kimi was treated better and now you say they were equal? Anyways, they want two consistent cars on the grid, why not improve them any way you can, in this case it was possible to make kimi's car lighter. And yes, Massa got his lighter chassis in Silverstone.

  • He scored podiums in Monaco, Valencia, Hungary, Italy and Belgium. And the lighter chassis was because kimi is heavier than massa.

  • @shoeme69 Then how can you explain his succesful end-season? According to Domenicali they stopped the development of the car after the hungarian GP so it's not because of the technical improvements.

  • That just shows how much they focused on the success of Massa. But true, it's dumb to compare fisico and badoer to kimi who drove the whole season with the car. Fisichella said that on many occasions he forgot to use the KERS system on the car.

  • no engine in the world sounds better than a formula 1 v10 engine. the 2.4l v8s of today aint got shit on em

  • Honestly, engine from Audi Quattro S1 sounds better

  • Listen to V12, they're good too

  • Maybe not directly comparable, but the sound of a '77 Pontiac Firebird / Trans AM engine is the single most arousing noise in human history. I'd like to see USF1 enter one infact...

  • the car looks like a fucking monster to drive!

  • Even with TC Raikkonen is really having to wrestle that Sauber around the track, despite that being a generally good car clearly didn't have enough grip in the slow corners

  • @fantarule I think traction control was first introduced at Sepang 2002 although I may be wrong. If that's the case he's TC-less.

  • TC and LC returned at the spanish GP in 2001

  • Did all the teams have it though? Because if it was like the defuser business last year it's not impossible teams like Sauber wouldn't have had a system.

  • Yes everyone had it, they would of lost out way to much without it so every got it

  • I see. This is almost certainly the first time I've learnt something through the internet, lol. :P

  • I can hear wheelspin at exiting some corners 0:31

  • @Zoefzoef24 Yeah, that's what I thought. Also you can usually hear traction control working throughout corners. Then again there's a device called traction control override which is driver operated (although I don't know if it was used in F1) to allow the driver to remove the effects to get more power and wheelspin on the exit of corners.

  • why is the video description random drivers, teams and key words from f1

  • So that when anyone searches for any of those drivers etc this video comes up

  • wow that gearbox is cruel to raikkonen,

  • Y'know, it's rumoured that one of the main reasons Raikkonen got kicked out of Ferrari is because Santander (Alonso's favourite bank) payed Ferrari to do so (apparently enough to compensate Kimi for breaking the contract).

  • It was known from around 2 years ago that Santander would be becoming a Ferrari sponsor in 2010. And as a lot of people know Santander are one of Alonsos sponsors, it was all to predictable that the pairing would come together this year

  • there is also the reason that he was consistently beaten by massa

  • It's weird how he suddenly started scroring podiums and even a win with that car when massa was injured in hungary.

  • XD lol sound

  • Oh God....this car was so nervous!!! :o All the correction that Kimi did at the steering....can you imaginate 78 laps like this? :D Great Job Kimi!!! ;) we miss you in Ferrari :(

  • well look at the minardi drivers then.

they alwast got a car that was nervous

  • Really :)

  • wow this video is really awesome!

    thanks for uploading

  • Well they actually go faster than this now, DC's time here was 1:18,127 and this years fastest lap in the race was 1:15,154 by Massa. I agree though the V10's were so much better.

  • and the cars look like shit now fuck FIA

  • first kimi it`s not only for the money because in rallying he will earn shit (he has personality because he choose only what he want, other drivers cant do that ) and second we will see kimi in 2011 in a redbull car

  • F1 cars just dont go this fast anymore.. Miss the V10's

  • amazing how these guys are sliding thru the tight streets of monaco..

  • oh my god that sauber was nasty, really nasty. it wasn't a very good lap though, he tried to find the very limit, but overstepped it too much, and settled into a better rythm later on, qualifying really, really well later on. great to see him fighting the car like that though!

  • It might've been nasty, but it did finish 4th in the Constructor's Championship that year, their highest ever points finish before BMW bought them. =]

  • Amazing lap from ice man. Kimi Räikkönen good luck on the Rally saison 2010

  • i am a fernando alonso fan and i think raikkonen and hamilton are great racers

  • What is awesome about this lap?

  • Man TC sounds gross. I never liked it.

  • he is the best

  • lol i like people like u cuz wen i am bored i talk to u btw kimi is 1 of the best drivers no hamilton cuz for sure u like ham. cuz u guys are so pissed that he won him in 2007 cuz deserve it i am sorry that was a waste of ur time to write that be comment and getting all thumps down

  • Kimi enjoys driving with TC...unfortunately in 2001 it was still forbidden, yet it´s noticeable as a well effective device in this pictures...

You can understand WHY the FIA decided to legalize this system the next season...every Ferrari-Mercedes had hidden software to use this illegal TC-weapon of mass destruction against their competitors...

  • it was v12 right?

  • It was a 3.0L V10.

  • ok thanks

  • THIS is real racing, not that easy shit today.

  • goddamn man i was just gonna say: those more powerful cars had so much more grassroots to them. the way Kimi uses wheelspin to stabalize his car. hes all over the track(sorta), the cars these days just get worse and worse as i see the way the older cars were.

  • Kimi had come straight from Formula Renualt into Formula One, and now here he is casually screaming around Monaco at 300kms per hour! No fear!!

  • those gear changes are pretty brutal!

  • So you people which says Ferrari is much better car than mclaren... You must think that Ferrari stop to uprage their car because it was enough fast to beat up everyone but just the drivers was bad? :P You guys are so wrong... McLaren is so much better car than Ferrari at the moment and have been almost whole season (except first race where ferrari had "weird" stuff on their car and had to be removed =))

  • mclarens car may be better than ferraris, but that is because they are still upgrading theirs. ferrari stopped working on this years car when it became clear that they could not win the championships. the fact that kimi i still at the top shows how good the ferrari is. next year ferrari will own the lot with their new car that they have been working on for a long time.

  • Why Badoer and Fisi are so slow then? Fisi were second @ belgia with Force India and Kimi won so...?

  • badoer is a n00b, kimi is world champion material. force india controls like a bicycle, ferrari is a real f1 car, fisi said that.

  • Why Fisi is so slow on it then?

  • hes not used to the more complex ferrari

  • @rastamees

The Ferrari car sucks, the fact that Kimi drives it so well... Well it's because he drives so well. The car is fucking terrible as proven by Fisichella and Ferraris test driver Luca Badoer

  • Luca Badoer is old and fisichella had no practice with it, its hard to switch teams and do well you know

  • yh i know he fucked up but it definately wasn't up to pace so you can't talk.

  • nice smooth gear change.... lol!

  • hey hamilton was flying round monaco this year in possibly the worst car on the grid.

  • If you see the McLaren, you can't compare it with Kimi's Sauber. See how much corrections he needs to do.

  • Oh give me a break. By Monaco the McLaren was back on pace on the aero circuits and Hamilton had a real shot at winning but fucked up in qualifying with that crash at Mirabeau.

  • would like to see hamilton goin around that track with that car!

he would crash in the 3rd turn.

    Kimi4ever. Hamilton never.

  • I would like to see Kimi get a win this season in a worse car ;)

Hamilton with a very poor car had scored himself a win.

Not to mention, this track this season when the car was on par with the Force Indias - flew around and had done very very well.

  • ?

McLaren is much better in this season than Ferrari, and Kimi won in Belgia.

  • There is NO WAY McLaren has been the faster car. McLaren has been on par with Force India, and it is a testimate to Hamilton that he has scored so many points, and a win at that.

The car is a lot better now than what it was, but its still only 'midtable' on some circuits - At best.

  • Yeh, Hamilton did a brilliant job of going into the final lap at Monza with 3rd and leaving with nothing :P.

Sauber to be back on the grid next year, they won't push for wins... unless Kimi wants the seat again? That'd be amazing xD

  • As said, Kimi scored a win in Belgia with a lot worse can than Hamilton did in Hungary and Singapore.

Did you even follow this season? :D

  • Kimi is in a much better car than Hamilton.

Therefor Kimi will have to do better than just matching his results. (Eventhough, it seems asthough Hamilton will take over Kimi in the standings).

  • Wow, you can live in your cloud world, but the fact is that McLaren has been a good car on the second half of the season. Heck, even Heikki Kovalainen managed to qualify 3rd in Monza with a 1 stopper and 2nd in Valencia (could have taken the pole if he hadn't messed up the last corner).

Or was Hamilton just bad during the first half of the season then? When the car was actually as bad as you state now.

  • Ask any motorsport journalist... by the end of 2009 McLaren had arguably the 2nd-quickest chassis on the grid, and possibly the best overall car given they had the Merc engine (Red Bull were quicker but the Renault engine sucked). Ferrari's car was never brilliant except for Spa, but even then Force India had the pace to win but didn't. Given however that McLaren still only beat Ferrari by one point despite being faster for half the season, it really says whose drivers did a bett
