  • First of foot and right of the line.

  • Fact: No real warm blooded Marine ever had to take the AMY entrance exam. No One wants to play with ropes all their live long days. Unless you are one of Bill Clinton's boys.

  • FACT: Marines cannot pass the Army entrance exam which is why they are forced to draw a pay check from the Navy Dept. Rather sad when you think about it.

  • so pleased that when I served at the Pentagon I attended this lovely tattoo

  • How ofter do they have the evening parade? I would like to know so I can plan my vacation accordingly. Although I was in the Army, I believe the US Marines has the best band of all the military services.

  • @sgtP77 Two parades a week between Memorial Day and Labor Day--Tuesday night at Iwo Jima memorial, Friday night at Marine Barracks 8th and I Streets SE. No reservations needed for Tuesday, but reserve well in advance for Friday. Check the Marine Barracks website for details.

  • cover and alignment aye aye sir oorah marine corps, kill!!

  • Makes me even prouder, if that's possible, to be one of the few, the proud, a Marine. Semper Fidelis!!!!

  • Marszen (March) des yorkscher corp. written by beethoven for Field Marshall Yorck of the Prussian Army

  • Can anybody tell me what the name is of the first song they're playing?

  • My son was stationed at 8th & I for 2 years. I actually got to witness The Friday Evening Parade. If you've never seen it, you should. EVERY American should.

  • omfg, im gonna add this vid to my favourites, just to proof that the marines do play traditionell german marching songs like the first one "yorkscher marsch"...

thats the one the german soldiers (representing duties) from the "Wachbattallion" do play as their entry and exit march...

actually its a song from ludwig van beethoven...

  • i noticed the flag didnt have 50 stars. Why is that?

  • @Jusgrowinup it is because they fly the flag that was flying when the barracks were built it has 15 stripes and stars and stripes the 15th state at the time was Kentucky

  • @Jusgrowinup On memorial services, the Ensign can be flown with a historical numbering.

  • I hope every American can get a chance to see the Evening Parade at The Marine Barracks here in Washington, DC. Thanks! For posting this video!

  • When ever i hear the US Marine Corp Band play, the sprit of every marine who ever wore the uniform marches with them oohraa

  • 1st march is one my favorites, "Marsch des Yorckschen Korps" by Luwig van Beethoven".

  • i went last week very very crisp and clean drill and very entertaining

  • i work at the barracks for the marine corps institute. i have to one of these parades every friday night for the whole summer. oohrah

  • hahaha i work at this barracks. i have to put on dress blues every single friday during the summer.

  • How is it I spent four years (0311 2nd Bn 6ht Mar 2nd Mar Div) in the usmc and never saw or heard of the dress reds donnned by the band in the openning minutes of this parade ???!!/

  • i went yesterday it was CRAZY!! i love the marines !

  • i've seen 1st phase recruits drill better than these assholes.

  • @deliciousmorton Damn, you seem like the asshole!

  • @pettyofficer30 you seem petty.

  • U. S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps....all have gone through Marine Boot Camp before coming to Washington, D.C. Anyone who has not yet done so must get to Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. and witness the Friday Night Parade. It is free and on top of things to do.

  • I've had the privilege of seeing/hearing the President's Own several times and they are doubtlessly one of the best bands I've ever heard. I'm an old bandsman but never with a band like this. BRAVO

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 well this acualy isnt the President's Own may have some members of it but this is the Commandant's own

  • Every American should get a chance see this at least once, in person.

  • Before the Rock and Roll Marathon starts in San Diego the Marine band marches and plays for us.Talk about emotional.I am from Canada and you guys rock. Thanks for serving.

  • CHILLS

  • Everytime I watch this, I get goose-bumps! What an amazing performance! And G-d Bless the Marines, and those who serve our great country. Thank you!

  • Magnificent!!!

  • Man, what a motivating post! it represents all of us current and former Marines and all of our brothers and sisters that never made it back home from all the wars. To all of you that put us down, sad that you will never understand the pride and priviledge of serving our beloved U.S. of A!

    Former Marine Grunt

    Semper Fi!

  • Enjoy it a lot...Thank you for posting this...Perfection at it's best....Thanks again.

  • Wow. Sousaphones played in just intonation. Marvelous. Simply marvelous.

  • never get why people hate the military... blame the politicians where the orders come from. we r just following orders...

  • I don't hate the military, but "we r just following orders" is a crap reason to do anything.

Responsibility is not something you can take off like a jacket.

  • dgk, the point that bjorn was trying to make is that our orders come from politicians, civillians. We do not decide to "have a war, and attack". Civillians have us do it!!! =Stefan=

  • I like how the drum major is wearing a bearskin cap and the fact that all drum majors in the US armed forces wear one.

Not sure to the history behind it, but probably related to British colonial times.

  • Up there with the British Household Div.

  • No better friend, no worse enemy, than the United States Marines.

    Semper fidelis.

  • @ATLtripulacion I heard a young marine once respond to a female reporter's question about what he felt about possibly being sent into harm's way. He responded, "Ma'am, we're United States Marines. We ARE harm's way.

  • @ATLtripulacion

Haha! Im English and we do love you yanks :P Though you tend to bomb us and were allied..... not so sure your the best friends one could have :P

  • sqz834 - If you're not willing to stand behind the troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.

This is an awesome clip. Outstanding. Best military musical organization anywhere...ever.

  • We don't kill children. We do our absolute best never to harm any civilians. It is sad that you use the protections and freedom provided by the United States Marine Corps to call them names and sully their proud reputation, all the while hiding in cyberspace. Sad, extremely sad.

  • u best shut it you little terrorist, you be glad your typing this over the internet and not in public or the marines wouldnt have to kick your ass, Every Proud American would do it for em!!! so go to hell yu litle pussy

  • I played in the field band at Quantico from 1981-1983 as a trumpet player. We used this same arrangement of Retreat whenever we had an evening parade (not THE Evening Parade, of course) down there. Always brought a trickle to my eye whenever we sounded Retreat.

    Semper Fi.

  • visit banda marcial são joão-

    marching band BRAZIL

  • Their performance of "Retreat" at the end was the best version I've ever heard.

  • Does this make ya proud to be an American or not? Oh-Rah!!!

  • Tell Ya what!!! The Jarheads rocked here!! Thats coming from a US Sailor!

  • This is a great show that runs through the Summer months in Washington DC. I've attended many times, and never get tired of watching it.

  • why can we hear the AF song at 2:30?

  • More than likely, they were honoring the different services of the armed forces. They also played Anchors Aweigh and Semper Paratus, and of course The Marines' Hymn and the end.

  • Does anyone know what the title of the song is called at the end when the flag is being lowered?

  • It's called "Retreat," a bugle call played when lowering the flag.

  • yes that is true. The Marine Barracks is where Sousa pretty much made a name for himself. Most of everything that the Marine Band does is centered off of what Sousa had created during his 12 years there.

  • in the film "Stars and stripes forever" it said that Sousa was the leader and composer that was in charge of this band, is that true?

  • yes it is

  • Wow..... Well, I have a career option some day if I try hard..

  • No. Not the "Yorkshire March". This is the great imperial Prussian "Hohenfriedburger Marsch". It was written by none other than Frederick the Great, Emperor of Prussia.

  • Are you sure... I think it is Yorkshire which I have played many times in concert bands.

Halfway thru they are playing Semper Paratus.. U S Coast Guard March followed by Marine Corps Hymn...

    Old Marine Corps Bands drummer.

  • I looked up the march I had in mind.. York'scher March by Beethoven.. written in 1801. Played it many times. just forgot the spelling

  • It is indeed the York'scher Marsch by Beethoven. The Hohenfriedberger Marsch is totally different.

  • Yep. It is the York'scher Marsch. However, maybe not by Beethoven. It is one of those attributed to Beethoven and given a temporary WOo number. It is of questionable origin.

  • Playing the Yorkshire March in the beginning.

  • awesome

  • kl vid!
