It doesn't sound like anything to me, because I've never seen it before. I've been reading their comics for 6 years now-I have at least a little faith in their ability to make a decent game. They've been reviewing and critizing games for nearly a decade now-"just think about it".
I would say to all the naysayers... how about giving the guys a chance? It's a game made by gamers. They wouldn't put their stamp upon something that sucks.
It can't be "based on" the webcomic, because the webcomic spends the vast majority of its time avoiding the "dreaded continuity". That said, those two are involved in the creation of the game, which gives the game a big "hey, this might be worth buying!" without even looking at the video. The customization part of the game is enough to buy it, for me.
Don't forget that Ron Gilbert, the man behind Monkey Island is now in on this project. That alone is enough to make me very interested.
The cell shading still looks like it could use a little work, but its certainly coming together and looks much more feasible than the previous trailer.
"From the creators of" doesn't mean "based on", unless you think that once an artist produces something, everything afterwards is immediately doomed to be nothing better than derivative.
