  • hey can you help because i think i got a virus and i rebooted with a winxp cd and to enter the setup i have to format disk C but i have alot of files on there and cannot access them, is there any way i can bypass that step or fix my computer?

  • The problem with any magnetic hard drive is that the platters have a sort of memory from the magnetism. So simply overwriting the data with a bunch of zeros (0) will not completely eliminate the platter's memory on the physical disk. There are tools to recover "formatted" drives. Most of these tools are used by law enforcement agencies and government agencies.

  • @jbond350 Those tools does not work on harddrives (it has been proven), and that is why it is not necessary to spend a lot for time overwriting the harddrive many times.

  • @jbond350 I haven't watched this video yet (internet loads too slow!), but I'm sure you must be wrong. Something can't really be magnetized two different ways at the same time (that would be non-magnetized). If a 0 used to be a 1, the direction of the magnetism was flipped. There really wouldn't be a trace that is used to be a 1.

The programs they use (I've used some) just look for files that don't have headers. When you delete a file in Windows, it really just removes the file from a list.

  • This video just helped me own a stupid self proclaimed data recovery expert and forensics expert who tried to claim that a full format does not erase the data, so thank you.

  • Great, I also suggest you google "The Great Zero Challenge".

  • Great job! 5 stars for this ! i'm having my final exams but after those i'll do a little experiment of mine, to see if i can recover any data using the data recovery software on the market. I was telling you that you could recover data because i saw a buddy of mine doing it. But you seemed to prove it wrong. Great job again! As i said, after exams, i'll try different software and we can actually see if the companies actually lie or not about their software. Great job again.

  • Great :-), I'm on vacation right now, that is why I got the time.
