Add in 42 other drivers trying to go as fast as they possibly can on the same track as you, with constantly changing track conditions and handling characteristics...it's a wonder they don't fuck up more often.

Yes I agree with what you said, but watching it is not exciting. maybe if they had a rookie race a couple times a year that will generate more views than the pro races, rookies+fast cars=crazy stuff like crashes or crazy moves. @Jah2070 I'd like to see a few more on the schedule too. Right now there are only 5 total. 3 for the Nationwide series and 2 for Cup. A couple more in each series and maybe run the trucks at one like they used to would be neat. As far as rookies are concerned, it seems like the number of them we have depends a lot on the economy, since sponsors often go for the more experienced veterans. With sponsorship dollars at a premium these days, rookies are at a minumum, but that will change with time :)

@bfcricky It depends on what your referring to as "faster". Cup cars use a smallblock v8 with 850+ horsepower. Rusty Wallace ran an unrestricted lap at Daytona a few years ago and topped 230mph. On the other hand, F1 cars can kick a cup cars ass acceleration wise, they have an incredible power to weight ratio, but a cup car would win as far as top end speed is concerned.
@jrfan07 In all fairness, there is nothing on four wheels that can get around a race track faster than a F1 car. Before the regulations changed, F1 cars had V10 engines which produced around 1000hp. They did 0-60mph in 1.7 seconds, 0-100mph in 3 seconds. Top speed was 228mph. Since they changed to V8 theyve got less power and the refuelling ban has made them heavier, but I still can't think of anything faster.
@bfcricky yea, especially when they run really short gears at the small tracks such as Martinsville. Just the fact that the cars are over 3400 pounds puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain. There have been pleanty of snapped driveshafs/axles/rear gears and such over the years when the jack is dropped after a pit stop lol.

BTW, the last crash is Irwindale Speedway in Southern California... I was present for that race, I believe it was the Winston West series, The car that is spinning down the track hit the wall divider where the "garage" can be accessed. There has been atleast 1 fatality thanks to that wall. Everynow and then someone wrecks into that wall and it's always brutal. Tom Jones of the Late Model Devision had a near fatal wreck there, destroying the car and sending it airbourne.

@1981Mansell there is a LOT of skill involved. driving one of those cars competitively requires intense physical ability and the mental strength to force your body to go on. not to mention exerting your body to high and continuous vertical and lateral G forces in cockpit temperatures that often reach and exceed 140F. it may not look like much from the outside to someone who does not follow the sport, but i assure you its one of the toughest and straining things one can do with a racing vehicle.

And of course you have to know that these left corners aren't driven with 80 mph like some tracks in Formula 1 schedule are, they're driven with 160 mph. I won't be surprised if you compare that to Eau Rouge now. ;) And more: NASCAR cupcars are more difficult to drive as Formula 1 cars. And NASCAR schedule also includes tracks like Watkins Glen.

Umm what sport goes anywhere. HHEELLLO football back and forth on the field, same as Basketball, soccer, hockey...golf the walk on grass for 19 holes or is 16? not sure.
I did a ride along in one at track. For three laps i went 160mph..i think...could not read the speed. My body was throbbing afterwards from the gravity...and my face hurt from laughing so hard. also watch the Shaq vs dale jr. I dare you walk up to him and say nascar drivers are not athletes. Then we can laugh as he slugs you.

@bfcricky It depends on what your referring to as "faster". Cup cars use a smallblock v8 with 850+ horsepower. Rusty Wallace ran an unrestricted lap at Daytona a few years ago and topped 230mph. On the other hand, F1 cars can kick a cup cars ass acceleration wise, they have an incredible power to weight ratio, but a cup car would win as far as top end speed is concerned.

@jrfan07 In all fairness, there is nothing on four wheels that can get around a race track faster than a F1 car. Before the regulations changed, F1 cars had V10 engines which produced around 1000hp. They did 0-60mph in 1.7 seconds, 0-100mph in 3 seconds. Top speed was 228mph. Since they changed to V8 theyve got less power and the refuelling ban has made them heavier, but I still can't think of anything faster.

@bfcricky yea, especially when they run really short gears at the small tracks such as Martinsville. Just the fact that the cars are over 3400 pounds puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain. There have been pleanty of snapped driveshafs/axles/rear gears and such over the years when the jack is dropped after a pit stop lol.

@ElDenali06 pretty smart guys actually, very talented too. people wreck their vehicles at 50 mph on the interstate, so imagine running 200 mph inches from other cars for upwards of 4 hours, pouring with sweat, physically exhausted and mentally drained. you'd be pretty "stupid" too if you drove stock cars for a living.

I am a diehard, lifetime NASCAR fan, and like any true fan of whatever sport/hobby they adore, I won't stop defending it just because someone told me to. NASCAR (or motorsports in general) is often either loved or hated. You either follow it or you don't. IMO don't watch NASCAR videos if you don't like it, and if you watch for the crashes, then just enjoy the video :)

I know a game is nothing compared to what its really like. but i tried NASCAR racing on gran turismo 5 and it give you just a small taste of what it would be like. its so fast and dangerouse. i have alot of respect for these guys, its a grueling sport but so cool :D

BTW, the last crash is Irwindale Speedway in Southern California... I was present for that race, I believe it was the Winston West series, The car that is spinning down the track hit the wall divider where the "garage" can be accessed. There has been atleast 1 fatality thanks to that wall. Everynow and then someone wrecks into that wall and it's always brutal. Tom Jones of the Late Model Devision had a near fatal wreck there, destroying the car and sending it airbourne.

@1981Mansell there is a LOT of skill involved. driving one of those cars competitively requires intense physical ability and the mental strength to force your body to go on. not to mention exerting your body to high and continuous vertical and lateral G forces in cockpit temperatures that often reach and exceed 140F. it may not look like much from the outside to someone who does not follow the sport, but i assure you its one of the toughest and straining things one can do with a racing vehicle.

@1981Mansell I can tell you something. You never sat in a NASCAR cupcar, did you? I know that these cars are very difficult to handle. Also there are corrugations in road surface which makes handling these cars even harder. Then it's hard to sit 2 hours in a car in which it's 50-60 degrees, hear the radio and drive at the same time. Then you have your opponents. There are 42 more cars you have to watch for not to crash them.
Do you know where the skill is involved now?

@1981Mansell I do watch Formula 1 since years. I just said that NASCAR is challenging, I didn't compare it to Forumla 1. And of course you have to know that these left corners aren't driven with 80 mph like some tracks in Formula 1 schedule are, they're driven with 160 mph. I won't be surprised if you compare that to Eau Rouge now. ;) And more: NASCAR cupcars are more difficult to drive as Formula 1 cars. And NASCAR schedule also includes tracks like Watkins Glen.

I love the strategy: Get a yokel from the south, a northern type with a clean voice, and then another fellow to somehow glue the two voices together and maybe - just maybe - someone with half a brain will be convinced that watching cars drive in a circle for hours is genuine entertainment and they'll buy the beer advertised and slowly lose the other half. Like hamsters in a cage watching the popular hamster running in the wheel and not getting anywhere, wishing they could also run in place.
