  • Thorpe says 'd--' every other word. Tacky man. ;_;

  • I wish Catherine's ignorance were lesser that she might realize what serpents and adders these Thorpes are. I was aggravated wholly in the book by Isabella's taking advantage of Catherine's trusting nature.

  • John Thorpe looks like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - he's beyond creepy!!!!

  • John Thorpe does give me the creeps!! BTW; Catherine is the Austen heroine I'm most like; not sure about Tilney; will get back to u about him; good looking I'll give him that!! Like Miss Tilney too!!

  • i love john thorpe he is soo hot :)

  • darn you thorp >P

  • @Songsmirth He says, "What say? Jig it again?" As in, "Wanna dance again?"

  • Barth? whatever the name of the town is?, i think i hear it on the jane austen's story. a corrupted town. very bad for a girl in those days.

  • PERVY KEOGH!

  • omg! Carey Mulligan!

  • John's soooooo pervy, it's very off putting! The actor who played him was spot on with his depiction! I hope he won an Emmy or something!

  • Those hats are absolutely ridiculous

  • So Sally Sparrow DID end up getting touched by the Angels in the end. Well, glad to see she's doing well for herself.

  • john gets so close to her u think they r gonna smack into eachother..but then again he wants that happen...creep

  • and has a huge mouth like a fish

  • John Thorpe: dammit dammit dammit dammit dammit!

  • Chat's bro is HOOOT!

  • This film production has watered down John Thorpe's character considerably. In the novel, when he arrives in Bath with his friend, he tells his mother she looks like an old witch in her new hat, greets his younger 2 sisters by telling them they look ugly, and considers Mr. Allen and General Tilney "rich as Jews."

  • *couldn't

  • When I read the book John Thorpe kept saying "damn" but it was written as "d---" and I feel so stupid because while reading I could figure out what it meant! It's so obvious!

  • Oh, come on, adaptation, the "when she saw a beautiful lady by his side she immediately deduced she was his sister, because he'd spoken of a sister before but not of a wife, and missed a great opportunity to faint from the shock of learning he's already taken" was the most hilarious part of the book .\

  • john's face is scary!

  • james and john's carriage drives itself away at 3:52 lol

  • "appearances often deceive" she is such a hypocrite.

  • @kistershi

Actually I think that for an actor that would be great fun. Playing the villain is much more interesting than playing the hero!

  • SALLY SPARROW!!!

  • @xElisititax DON'T BLINK!!!!!

  • The way John Thorpe looks at Catherine haunts my dreams... o.o Scary stuff,

  • if anyone looked at me like that i would scream and run away

  • Thorpe gets too close for comfort

  • That poor girl!! Thorpe gets WAY too close for comfort at 1:21!!

  • John Thorpe reminds me of Mr. Hyde! :S

  • oh dear. i cant tell if thorpe reminds me more of a leprechaun or a caveman. hmmm

  • He gets awful close when they are dancing

  • John thorpe is ugly.

  • OMG ITS SALLY SPARROW FROM BLINK!!! :O

  • @luluhouse7 Go Doctor Who references :D

  • John is so creepy!!!

  • catherine would be a modern day twilight fan.

  • Hahaha Carey's great as a self-indulgent airhead! She's such a versatile actress :)

  • she reminds me of emma roberts, i think its her eyes? idk hahah

  • wow... i didn't think John Thorpe was all that bad in the book- but he is HIDEOUS...lol.

  • I love Catherine's face when Tinley walks in with his sister and says " allow me to introduce Eleanor, my sister" and Cathy's face of relief "oh thank God not wife"

  • oh gawd.... i feel so sick when i see thorpe get so close to her D: makes me want to puke up the orange i just ate o-o

  • now where have i seen the actor who plays isabella thorpe before? she looks familiar.

  • @ThePrice0 She's Carey Mulligan and probably you know her from 'An Education'. She also played Kitty Bennet in 'Pride and Prejudice'.

  • @Myrmianin oh thats right! and is she the one who played in Wall Street 2 and Never Let Me Go?

  • @ThePrice0 Yup, that too :)

  • @Myrmianin which version?

  • Thorpe is so up in her personal bubble, that I feel awkward. lol

  • John Thorpe is absolutely disgusting. To constantly swear like that in the presence of ladies is indicative of the worst manners!

  • I love how disgusted catherine looks when isabella talks about lord byron

  • hahahahaha stalkers.... lol

  • Ugh, girls like Isabella drive me crazy. All they care about is getting a guy's attention. And they act like they don't care and are even insulted by their interest, but they are so fake! And I hate when I fall for their innocence act like Catherine does. She needs a man like Mr. Tilney to keep her from being so naive. He can see through her!

  • Does John Thorpe EVER stop cussing?!?!?

  • What is it about Isabella that one doesn't like immediately? Anyone? She knows she's pretty but she's gets uglier by the minute. HUMPH! lol These two guys know exactly what kind of girl Isabella is. She looks back to make sure they will follow. And James is no better at reading people than Catherine and the Thorps know their pigeons ripe for the plucking. Again, HUMPH damit. lololol Cath thinks Thorpe is very kind, her being a country bumpkin. I keep wondering what kind of background?

  • Thank you so much for uploading this.

  • hey! john thorpe should be much handsomer.

  • @cellolove7 I completely agree. No offense to the actor but he's built more for horror stories. There isn't one thing appealing about him. He's pushy and totally unproper. Cussing after two sentences to the girls. A gentleman never cussed in front of ladies and I'm surprised Catherine's brother didn't object. Both these syblings seem too over the top for decent people. The girl is into her own power where young men are concerned. I believe they were sent there on a mission. To marry $.

  • such perverted guys hahaha

well except Mr. Tilney of course! ;)

  • I can't decide which is a more annoying character, Lydia Bennet for PAP or John Thorpe! I reeeeaaaally can't stand them!

  • Oh, Catherine, why can't you see through Isabella right away? :(

  • i hate john thorpe he is soooo gross

  • I keep wanting John Thorpe to say "My name is Royston White...I fight for Robin Hood and King Richard" from Robin Hood. Luv this movie!!!

  • What a ho-bag Isabella Thorpe is! and what an ogre is John Thorpe, he's even worse in the novel. Austen has him cussing in what had to have been a scandalous manner then. Ick, he's soooo creepy!

  • agree with other coments, John Thorpe is creepy and a stalker.

  • Catherine is so obvious! she's so cute :)

  • If I were Catherine, I would avoid Thorpe as much as I could! And definitely not wear such a low cut dress around him X(

  • carey mulligan looks like little bo peep with that bonnet on.

  • Oh shit. Must not blink.

  • Mr. Tilney has very good maners, something which can be rarely seen these days!

  • SOOOO CREEPYY

  • '...damnit this is Bath'= '....damnit this is Vegas Baby'.Don't you think?

I think that Thorpe really wants to rape Catherine; he's way creepy...

  • "Dammit, this is bath"

  • how old are Catherine?

  • @CHRIchannel 17 if im not mistaken..

  • @geengengena

I know he looks as if he's going to rape....he gives me the creeps....yikes!

  • John Thorpe is an adventurer, and not even in a congenial manner. Won't do, you know.

  • tilney is nice. but hes no george knightley or darcy!

  • @karishmaapai on the contrary: Darcy is nice, but he's no Tilney.

  • Danm John is all up on her on 4:21

  • John Thorpe is such a creeper.

  • John Thorpe is so creepy......................ew

  • I know the actor of John! He acted as Royceton White in BBC's Robin Hood if I remember correctly.. I think he's rather handsome really :)

  • @riskybubble same here. Theres like a strange kind of cuteness about him. :)

  • When this video part starts, the person standing beside Ms. Hale looks like a man in a wig.

  • Good lord, I don't think Isabella's breasts could be any more on display if she just took the dress off completely! And John is so foul mouthed and creepy. Gah, I despise the whole Thorpe family!

  • Thorpe really ugly :S I wont dance with a guy that looking at me like that!!

  • I wish I knew the names of the songs they danced to....

  • John reminds me of Moe Scisslack.

  • @awakenbeing Hahahaha lmfao.

  • they always say that in these kind of movies: "I am sure that we will be the very best of friends" .. not knowing her before and not giving her girl any chance of "no" as an answer;-)

  • lol "Your sister!" The look on her face was priceless. :)

  • Tilney looks/ sounds a bit like Jude Law :) Yum

  • @anniexan yes he suree doess...

    he such a hottieee ;)

  • I'd really have to disagree, Henry Tilney is indeed gorgeous, but John has a dark odd attractiveness to him [even though with lighter features]. And his stare, it is crreepy yet unnerving. Well, opinons are just opinions,..

  • john thrope looks n acts like a stalkerr, eww im in utter awe how she was able to look at his ugly face, speak directly to it, and even dance with it/him !! :O

  • @xXlauralauXx yay, get hem in bed I say, nothing more inspiring like an old chap on a young misstress bed ;)

  • john thorpe looks a little like david letterman.

  • I bet the guy who plays Thorpe, never gets any roles but some creep. He looks that part :D

  • aww...i love mr tilney...actually i don´t know any austen hero i don´t like....gosh he´s greatXD

  • Eww. It's the creepy blond troll again.

  • @drevvchristine LOL That made me laugh!

  • haha I love those two guys - it's almost too modern. As if we're at a bar.

  • Thorpe is SUPER creepy.

  • John Thorpe is slightly ginger, lol.

  • Isabella really is revaling in the attentions of those two guys

  • I will stop watching this now. There is so much wrong with it that I cannot bear another minute. Who needs films when there are books to reread...???:-)

  • @HermioneNo1 I agree with you! This is possibly my favourite book ever, and whilst this adaptation is quite clever with all of Catherine's little dream sequences it deviates far too much from the book. Also, I was quite looking forward to Isabella, but she isn't nearly as annoying enough!

  • @laurablakex Isabella gets more annoying as the film goes -_-

  • John pretty much knows one word. "Da**it" its like GEES SHUT UP GUY!

  • I like this Jane Austin - all of her other novels had somewhat indistinct villains which I think is not realistic. Real life is full of villians.

  • @Herstory4321 All of Austen's other novels had indistinct villains? What about Wickham or Willoughby? I thought they were pretty realistic =)

  • god if two had started following me like that I would have been like RAPISTS!!!!!

  • @vivimaze yeah, times have changed!!!!

  • I've read The Monk. It's is pretty freakin shocking!

  • lolz road side romeos

  • I like Isabella, I think she's quite spunky. ^_^

  • 2.15 'insufferable'

haha i hate girls like isabella :)

  • @bchan89 lol..so do i....that's what's so great about NA; a lot of the things in this novel can be paralleled to today. Lots of girls today behave like Isabella.

  • I dont like Isabella she anoys me

  • @stoneoffarel I think that's the purpose of the character... =)

  • This is my first time ever seeing any of these Northanger Abbey videos. I like them.

  • Haha he says dammit at the most random times....ugh so gross.

  • Thorpe is on it! Lmao!

  • @HavenKay gross man Thorpe.

  • AH! *Hides from John Thorpe* Bring back Mr. Tinley!

  • I knoow, I was like - get me the cute guy with carefree mannerism :D

  • thorpe is absolutly not handsome - quite a strange guy :S

  • My goodness John Thorpe IS quite creepy! LOL. The way he looks at her and dances so close... everything ugh!

  • why does thorpe remind me so much of david letterman?

  • why does Thorpe say dammit so much?! he just keeps adding and adding to his creepyness haha

  • Mr Tilney seems just her type very fanciful, they were cute together-started watching the 1987(?)version and thought it was weird-did'nt get her fanciful dreams-they were more like nightmares and her new friend Isabella was so nauseating with her constant giggling-I thought this can't be a true JA adaptation -only watched 4 segments till I changed to this one-it's much better-hav'nt read the book but knowing other JA-novels/ movies this adaptation seems more true.

  • omggg....John Thorpe looks and SOUNDS like a troll. whew, good acting there...I hope, lol

  • John Thorpe looks as if he's going to rape Catherine.. what a creepy guy

  • yeah totally..I hate his character in the novel...he is despicable..

  • That's what i thought!

Well, actually half the men in this movie looks like they're gonna rape her.

  • Well according to her lil' fantasies...she's kinda into that.

  • @geengengena hahaha thats hilarious!

seriously though, she couldn't be more obvious when she saw his sis and thought it was his GF... wow Kat wow

  • @geengengena he IS quite disgusting.

  • Even the way John Thorpe dances is creepier and slimier than the other guys there.

  • When they were dancing he came WAYYYYY too close back up boy!!!!!!

  • Love this production! Catherine is adorable and her dresses are lovely!

  • Its revolting how Miss Thorpes attitude changes when she first meets Miss Morland, i know Miss Morland is young and innocent, but she should of been sussed out a lot quicker.

Were more Cynical on people nowadays and a lot less tolerent, mores the pity.

  • You know that isnt Jude Law right.

  • "I had the pleasure of staring out you and creeping you out while you were dancing with Jude Law. Maybe next time I can dance with you and Jude Law can creep you out."

  • Lmao marvelsquantis, that was the best ever :)

  • Lord Byron... very wicked indeed LOL

  • and now he have to read his text in school..and talking how great he was, amazing :D hihi

  • Bad langauge Mr. Thorpe.

  • eww john thorpe looks like a dawg!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whats a creeper...i´ve tried to look for it at leo because my englisch isn´t really good..but i couldn´t find it...

  • ahhhhhhhhhh john is such a creepy man!!!!!!!!

    ooooo chills~

  • he was part of the BBC Robin Hood crew too...i just recognized him

  • he had the pleasure of watching her dance...doesn't get more creepy than that

  • *gasp* such a potty mouth Mr. Thorp is! haha

  • u can tell early on that john thorpes sister is very...generous w/ herself to say the least

  • HAHAHA. Cath was SO relieved to know that Henry bought HIS sister. HAHA XD

  • John Thorpe is a stalker!! he creeped me out the moment i saw him!

  • oh my gosh yes!!! that is exactly what i thought!!!

  • I totally despise and detest John Thrope! You'll see what I mean later, if you havent read the book.

  • John Thorpe is ugly and has a hideous voice. Henry Tilney is cute and sweet and he kicks John's butt!

  • he is so ugly omg his face just makes him a creeper lol

  • any doctor who fans recognize Isabella from 'Blink' and Catherine from 'The Unicorn and the Wasp'?

  • So we are all agreed then, we like John Thorpe. LOL

  • oh of course. i want to marry him. not!!! i prefer mr. tilney any day!

  • LOL! you had me going there for a second.
