Travis is pretty off time with his feet for the most part. Not severely off time, but enough that he sounds off compared to everyone else. He was a great studio drummer and a sub par live drummer as time went on. Which is part of the reason he was let go from the band.

Especially for the direction the band was wanting to move with. I think Nick's skills/style will start to flourish once the band really gets on the road with him for longer than one leg of a tour, and he sees the playing room he can expand with for other stuff they do. I have no doubts he kills it on their new album.

Travis' drums sound the same for every god damn song... This song for example... Boring 1 2 1 2 beat, followed by faster double kick and slower symbal hits, followed by more bland 1 2 1 2 beats.

And yeah... He can't keep a beat with his double kick for shit. Saw them live and was really disappointed... :/

Alexi's technique is very overrated simply because he was doing shred stuff and sweeping back when it was very much not the 'in' thing in metal so back then he seemed pretty spectacular, nowadays there are so many great guitarists out there that he is massively out classed. Chris Amott, Brandon Jacobs,Tosin Abasi, Jeff Loomis, gus G,M suicimez C Storey all destroy him.

@SuperBerija it sounds awful, its a technique I usually only see beginners doing but he has resorted to it now too. Talk to any experienced guitar player and they will tell you his technique has gotten worse, no doubt.

Technique wise he is better than matt (although not by much nowadays) but Corey is better, tell me which of alexis modern licks is his most complex and I guarantee I can find a more advanced one from Corey. Alexi repeats the same licks ALL THE TIME (as does matt heafy).

Laiho has gotten worse and worse over the years, just check out his recent lesson videos or live ones, he has gotten super sloppy, compare that to the old ones, he is undeniably worse, he has gotten lazy now too, check out recent videos of him sweeping, he now does that ridiculous technique where he just does hammer ons for the descending notes in the arpeggio rather than sweep them, thus making the technique muuch easier but

Live Matt is definitely better as Trivium is getter better year by year. On the other hand COB has been going down since 03/04 (when alexi lowered his guitar). In terms of technicality COB is better but you cant compare them. Also COB has been around much longer... Its not like they are playing the same thing to see whos better... Those two play different styles but technique wise probably the same, but right now I'd say Corey is better. Can't say it for sure cuz we havn't actually heard that much from Corey at all compared to Laiho (so far only, In The Fire actually shows his techniques). And for bands totally different genres so no point comparing. On a side not roope > alexi :D

Matt plays a lot of technical shit as well but Alexi plays more as he's THE lead guitarist for the band and Matt alternates leads with Corey. The thing Matt has over Alexi though is actually SINGING while playing guitar which takes MUCH more skill than screaming while playing. Screaming while playing is just remembering rhythms where singing is remembering notes.
