  • This is not Jimmy Crain nor Johnny Ramistella, I believe it´s also Paul Parker with an alternate version of "Little Girl". I think this version was released on a reissue LP some years ago.

  • @MrTeenagedreams It's not Paul Parker, I already talked with him.

  • @MrTeenagedreams I don't think this is Jimmy Crain either. It is probably a Glenn master. But i have no idea who the singer is.

But still a great version of the song...

  • @mrteenswe Listen to this, same voice:

Jimmy Crain - Will You Tell " the flip side of Shig-A-Shag released on SPANGLE 45-2009 in 1958 they're Identical vocals.

  • i checked all jimmy crain lp's and cd's online including approx 15 lp's his songs are on and none of them have this song on them. also this singer does not even sound like jimmy..

  • @aaktow Jimmy was mostly Rockabilly rather than Teen. Listen to "Jimmy Crain - Will You Tell " the flip side of Shig-A-Shag released on SPANGLE 45-2009 in 1958 Identical voices. This may have been unreleased or recorded on a label such as GLENN like many other tunes that never made it on LPs or CDs.

  • I love it ... a mystery is solved and now the search goes on for other songs by Jimmy Crain ... terrific!!

  • Ahhhhhhhh God!!! At last an answer to this question!!!! I guess the next thing we have to find out is did Jimmy Crain have any other songs? Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • @NYDutch1968 Yes he also did "Will You Tell" that I posted back in July. I also found his CD with 28 tunes, all Rockabilly though. I'll keep searching for more of his Teen sounds, like Little Girl & Will You Tell, I'll keep you posted!

  • @dowopper51 You said we would eventually find out who sang this, and while it took some time, you were right. Thanks for remembering to tell me the answer. I'll have to give a listen to the other songs you posted by Jimmy Crain.

  • I've just swooned again.......Care for a Roomate or four?!!

    5*****.

    Jennie.

  • Thank you.

    5*****.

    Jennie.

  • Ohhhhhh...at last!!! Maybe an answer to this question. I'm praying, will Paul Parker step forward and confirm he sang this version???

  • @NYDutch1968 Look no further my friend, angelofbebop found the MYSTERY Little Girl artist, this recording here is Jimmy Crain, just thought you'd like to know.

  • I got him signed in and he tried to post but for some reason it's not showing up. I'll have to get him to redo it later tonight.

  • Sure does sound like my Dad- Paul Parker. He made several cuts. He has alot of his gospel songs that you can hear this voice in his CD's.

  • Hmm, I thought of that awhile back that perhaps he did do another cut later on after the GLENN version, can your Dad confirm this?

  • Yes he can, but I'm having trouble getting him signed up on here. He lives in Fl and I trying to tell him whatto do over the phone.

  • Hmm, very very iteresting, get him signed in!

  • This version is 2:28 with background singing. The other version showing Paul Parker singing is 2:10 with no background singing. Can you ask your Dad who is singing background and if he knows if Billy Hall did a version of this song?

  • The flip side of this was written by Paul Parker and Billy Hall. You've posted Billy Hall "Good Bye Angel" showing in Related Videos. Just listening to his voice makes me believe he could be the mystery singer of this song. Admittedly circumstantial evidence, but since the recording sessions must have been at the same time, it seems likely Billy Hall was around. So my (unproven) theory is that Billy Hall sang this with vocal background by Paul Parker and Gene Rachon

  • I agree, it does sound a lot like Billy Hall.

  • Thanks for supporting my theory. I suppose the truth will never be known until the actual singer comes forward. Until then, I'm going with my theory that this is Billy Hall

  • Hi there! I haven't found who is doing this particular version, I don't believe it is Johnny. The closest voice artist I have found so far is Freddie Beach - Why. Which I posted & also can't find any info on him either. If you type in Paul Parker - Little Girl you will find I posted it. Paul P. wrote the song. I promise, I will find who is doing this version, it may take awhile, but, I will find who it is. Send me a private letter w/ your email & i'll send both versions to you.

  • Why not just ask Johnny Rivers/site to solve it once and for all?

  • dowopper51, solved it [somewhat] ...."Gene Rechon & Paul Parker wrote this version of Little Girl. Paul Parker released/recorded it in Oct of 64."

He's also posted Paul Parker's "Little Girl". Johnny's song [same title] is posted too and is a completely different song.

I doubt if Johnny Rivers would talk to us, lol!!!

  • A singer named, Tim Morgon recorded, " Gee, but It's Lonely" , live while in the Prison of Socrates, [Balboa, Cal.] in the early 60's. His album is the same title as the song. He sings ballads and has this sort of background echo in some of the songs he recorded on that album.

The date seems appropriate for the sound of this song ...I couldn't listen to the complete album on the web just two songs but his voice is similar to this.

  • VERY interesting AGibsonJ. While researching Tim I stumbled across this. Finders Keepers CD Vol-18--17 has this same exact version of Johnny Ramistella - Little Girl .

This doesn't justify that it is Rivers, it is however listing him as the artist. Sounding like him, nothing Rivers did in the 50s really sounds like him he was only 15-16.

I been researching Tim M, that LP was released in 66, this tune doesn't seem 2 fit that era. I will keep digging, the orig. artist deserves all the credits.

  • You're right... I just found out that Phil Everly wrote the "Gee But It's Lonely", that Tim Morgon recorded. Guess the debate goes on!

  • Update: Gene Rechon & Paul Parker wrote this version of Little Girl. Paul Parker released/recorded it in Oct of 64. I'll post it ASAP w/ Label. The one on SUEDE was written by Rivers in 58, so this version can't be the same song that Rivers did. I'm believing now that Norbrt is 100% correct with his post. Now, it doesn't stop until I find who is singing this version. Finders-Keepers I think made a mistake, this is where the problem started. The truth will set us free!

  • Gene Rechon owned the loft that my dad recorded this song in. Gene had know part in the writing, he was just fortunate enough to have a place my dad could play. I cant believe there is actually hype about this song. I have all my dads records tucked away never thought for a second I would see one on the internet. I hope you guys find out who sang the song you are all talking about. I played the version you are talking about for him and he says it is him. who will ever truly figure it out.

  • Hi Jazzy4409. This is the song that is confusing everybody. This is not Johnny singing this & doesn't sound like your Dad. What happened is, FINDERS KEEPERS released a CD with this particular song & named the artist as Johnny Ramistella/Rivers. I researched to find who this artist really is & stumbled upon your Dads record & found your Dad is the original writer & singer of Little Girl, not Johnny. No one knows who is singing this & copied your Dads version, we were just trying to figure it out.

  • This is such a beautiful song and I remember from the past that many people didn't believe it sounded like Johnny. Such a shame that whoever sang it didn't get any radio play at the time but still great to hear it.

  • This isn't Johnny Rivers (John Ramistella). I have no idea who it is but it's definitely NOT Johnny. Check out this video for the actualy Johnny Rivers recording: Johnny Ramistella And Orchestra-"Little Girl"

  • 1st of, do you have the record in your possession? If so, I want a video of you playing that record with sound. Why is your label gray & barrygioportmorien1 shows a red label? I'm sorry, but I'll need a lot more proof other than what you have provided. No offense, but your video shows me nothing. I could be wrong, it wouldn't be a problem, however, you have to prove it to me. I don't own a copy, never did, so the balls in your court. If U R correct, I'll convince many doowop groups their wrong.

  • No... I don't have a copy of the 45. The label in the video is gray because it's a black and white image. The red label shows up at the end of the video. I DO have a digital copy of the song on an album called "Rock and Roll with Piano, Vol. 10." It is credited to Johnny Ramistella (Rivers). If you listen to both of these records you can tell they aren't by the same person and the voice on the video I posted is clearly Johnny Rivers.

  • I got into this discussion before and decided to contact a long time friend and business partner of Johnny's and an aquaintence of mine, Walter Stewart of Soul City Records (Johnny's label). Mr Stewart confirmed that the version in my video is Johnny's recording.

  • Well, your version doesn't sound anymore like Rivers than mine does, honestly. However, this doesn't settle anything. This really needs 2 be reserched. I have a vinyl LP, Videls. 1 of the songs are Save A Dream. Someone contacted me & said, it's not the Videls, it's the Mystics? Well, the research began, turns out, it was a recording messup, they printed the Mystics on a Videls LP. Check out my post, The Supremes - He's Seventeen """RARE""" Now, because of my experiance, I know it's not

  • It sounds exactly like all of Johnny's records from that era, including the flip-side of this one, "Two By Two" which I know you've heard. Even if you compare this to the records he's made in the last 5 years you can still tell it's the same voice. Speaking of research, I've done it.

  • the Classmates. Anyway, I'll write a personal letter to Rich Rosen. If he says your copy is original, that's all I'll need. I have close to 900 postings, I can't be 100% correct on everyone, however, I can't accept everyone's opinions. Honestly, I have to research it before I change anything. I totally respect your comments & will do my best, not to disprove you, but to disprove myself. By the way, the Mystics sang, Save A Dream, I was wrong, I addmit it, I will do the same here if I'm wrong.

  • I know! It's one of them songs that will never grow old. Amazing, this is a perfect example of a #1 hit, however, the DJs screwed us big time?

  • Join the crowd my friend! I call this, Johnny at his best!

  • Absolutely fanatabutastic! Thank you for posting Rick :O)

  • Ah my friend, your so very welcome!

  • Lovely ! What a voice of him =)

  • aHH, SUPER!

  • SoooOOOoo nice. This is the type of song that has kept me listening to DooWop for over 50 years.

  • I have been for the last 50 years, this makes two of us, I LOVE IT!

  • Nice track !

  • Thank you!

  • great voice!

  • YES, no arguement here!
