Look at my profile photo and you will see what I look like today. I am honest and hardworking. I am capable to work and have high work ethics. I am 2 days away from being in this same situation. I am doing all I can do not let this happen. Unfortunately, after 30 plus years in the workforce, I seem to be unemployable and without the means to support myself. Before anyone criticizes, stop and think, this could very easily happen to YOU.
BW99,your right.,and yes the least I should have done was offer some water, or food or whatever. How do I, and the "stupid" people like me come out of our comfort shell to become a "hero". The underlying issue in mental disease goes deeper than what anyone wishes to talk about. Even me in my stupidity let this happen everyday, weather its the homeless guy at the beach or a co-worker , or anyone who comes close to us in our lives, we all have the power to make differences in peoples lives.
AND if you ever see someone like that on the beach they are SEVERLY dehydrated to the point of hallucination. So next time this happens be a real hero, and offer that person some water.
Don't just post a vid on youtube showing how stupid you were for not doing anything proactive about it.
I agree, i lived in Kona for ten years 1973-1983. I was homeless and drugged out. I know the old airport. Now i own my owm Business and own three properties. If my friends who still live in Kona could see me now.. Not all homeless people are lazy. Some just need some time off.. Sometimes i wish i was laying on that beach at the old airport. Doing nothing..
Alohas, Im not one who feels sorry for a person who remains lazy or drugged-out! However, the truth be told, when innocent mental patience, who have been thrown away, their treatment centers are closed, mental hospitals closed and can't take medication. Shame on Hawaiian selfishness and Mainland!
yes ive heard, pretty much the same thing though and what i mean by "shame" is that we know there is money to help.cant even pay for medication to keep thier head together.on the mainland, they had closed so many wards down, then left to the streets.i always see wasted money in projects by the commisions.its sad,but in some way those on the islands wont have to weather the freezes on the mainland, not to say its any safer. actually if they are sick of seeing you on the street they will stick you in the psych ward in Kona.
THen you get food stamps and and all that. Then they move you to the drug filled half way houses on hamburger hill....
