IX is and always will be one of my top 3 final fantasies. everything about it is amazing. the quirky characters, the action, the drama, everything. I especially liked that the underlying theme wasn't really about love, but acceptance.

I personally think that IX was the best of all of them. People like seeing 9999 X 18 hits. The story of of IX clearly surpasses that of VII. VII reminds me more of a SCI-FI RPG instead of a true Final Fantasy like IX. However VII,VIII, and IX and 10/10 in my opinion. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Final Fantasy X is the best imo. It had one of the most unique and intriguing storyline not only in a video game, but in fiction of all time. That storyline is incredibly hard to top, and I don't believe the people of FF have done it yet.

I think that 12 doesn't feel like an FF mainly cause it doesn't have the musical influence of Nobou... but that's just me, and for me, the music makes the game (and storyline, which is why I have yet to see any RPGs that top FFVI, Chrono Trigger, and Legend of Dragoon >.>)
