  • WHAT?!?!? no caboose with the Switchers?? how can you not have them in their.. they add to the fun of shuffling the stuff around. Once again too I see.. no weathering on the locos.

  • You should do one called "Trains Across the Globe"

  • Are those SD40s or 45s? I'm thinking of buying two SD45s for my n scale layout.

Love the series, been watching the videos over and over for 2-3 years now. I hope you guys upload some new footage :)

  • @Spyda0Jones There are SD40s and SD45s hauling trains in parts 3-6. However, I believe you are referring to the 3 locomotives hauling train 100. Those are SD60s. EMD painted 3 demo units for BN to use to see if they wanted to purchase any. BN wound up buying 100 SD60Ms and returned the 3 demo units to EMD where they were repainted and leased out to other railroads. I kinda wish BN had kept them as they were good looking in the "tiger stripe" scheme. They are nearly identical to the Oakway units.

  • @wesolint Thank you. I know I'm not alone on this, but I believe that Youtube should pay the club to make more videos because they are the first to actually mix commentary, sound effects, and model railroading perfectly

  • @Spyda0Jones Actually, the TAA series was created by just a few individuals - none of whom lived in the same geographical location. Mark Sullivan, from Indiana, came up with the idea. He then recruited Jeremy Foster from Montana and the 2 of them recruited me (Washington state). Our idea was to forward model freight cars around as real railroads do. We filmed on our personal or club layouts. Jeremy got a friend to do all the narration. Parts 1-11c (season #1) were just us 3.

  • @wesolint Are those EMD-1-3?

  • @BNSFandSP No. EMD 1-3 are different locomotives but still SD60s. The locomotives that BN returned got the "Burlington Northern" name on the side patched out in a white block. Then at least one of them was repainted with that maroon, gray, and white EMD scheme. They all kept their BN numbers - 8300, 8301, & 8302.

  • do one on England

  • @AdamPBussey Trains Across England - hmmmmm

    You do it!

  • great videos. i love it

  • @deron25 Thanks, we had fun making these videos.

  • Nice layout.

  • The NYC boxcar is a far way from home.

  • I sent it to chessie4155 and gave it to him.

  • @keighlynn no shit. lol NYC

  • Hi. The switchers at say 2:48, I noticed they have active yellow beacons. What make and model are these units?

  • I borrowed them from a friend for this shoot. I believe they are Proto2000 SW9's. He installed the beacons after he bought them and used a circuit he created himself (rdw283).

  • howd u get the lights on top of the switchers at 1:24??

  • Why is that New York Central Boxcar door open?

  • It's open so you can see the junk pallets that I built!

  • @wesolint Ok thanks

  • I Love Switching !! Oh, and Caboose's too !!

  • TrainSpotterX invites you to view trains of australia .... over 100 videos to view.

  • cool i just orderd a BNSF switcher on ebay

  • What no harbors or boats? Oh my...Just kidding,,,nice video!

  • The ocean is just behind the camera.....can't you smell it?

  • i want a train but i don't know where to buy them in Canada?

  • how much would 1 train coast

  • Are you asking price or rolling ability????

  • price

  • The price depends on how much quality you want your models to have. Higher quality models just cost more. You can get a starter set for around $100.00

It would include an engine, 3-5 cars, track and a power-pak. Sometimes a small amount of scenery is also included.

  • hey wesolint is there any up swicthing on Trains Across America i have atrain set but i would like to see some from your site

  • I don't think we have anyone representing the Union Pacific yet...... :((

  • Yes, all HO scale. Do they seem a different scale to you?

  • watch and sub for BNSFnick

    great job btw

  • I really enjoy this series of videos, very well done, and explains how to properly run a model railroad realistically.Great job.

  • Thanks for the super compliment. Mostly I do it because it's a blast!

  • Hey Wesolint what model are those switchers they look like SW8/900 but im not sure

  • I think they're SW1200s but I'll check with the owner to make sure.

  • Well 121 looks a SW9,But its probably an SW1500

  • The 121 is a Broadway Ltd - I'm not sure what they are calling it.

  • Thank you

  • That so good I nearly shit my pants!!! 5 stars!!

  • How do you whether your freight cars? Do they come pre-weathered? Do you just air paint some rust looking paint on it?

  • Airbrushing, drybrushing, chalks - all are good methods. Do a search for - "Basic Weathering grainhoppers". This is a good reference video.

  • thanks

  • What is your opinion on weathering 1950's era buildings?

  • My opinion is I'm not good at it - LOL

  • On the Trains Across America series, Do each of you have your own intro?

  • Yes, we sent each other clips of stuff to use to make each intro similar but unique.

  • You,mtrails, and chessie4155 Are gods of Model Railroading

  • Thanks - I'll pass it along. Really though, we just like having fun with trains and sharing it with others that enjoy our hobby.

  • Thanks to this vid ,now i love to switch cars in a yard on TRS2006!

  • Another job well done!!

  • Thanks!

  • Great ops video series!

    A few questions:

    1. do your engine sounds come from a CD or did you record them live yourself?

    2. What type of camcorder do you use?

    3. What brand video editing software do you use?

  • Answers:

    1. The sounds are dubbed in over the video clips. They come from several sources that have been pre-recorded, but I have not used any CD recordings yet (although I have considered the possibility).

    2. I use a Sony Cybershot digital camera (6.0 mega-pix) in "fine" mode (30 frames/sec).

    3. I have Windows XP Professional and use Windows Movie Maker (XP Professional has an upgraded version).

Sorry I took so long to respond. :(

    Thanks for the compliment!

  • nice layout and sounds, how can you get them to work like ?

  • The magic of editing!

  • very awesome!!!!!!! great work.

  • Thank you!

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!!! KEEP IT COMING!!!

  • Thanks, sorry so late!

  • good job Mtrails BN is my favorite fallen flag railroad. You did a great job narrating. I felt like i was actully there wittnessing BN action. I guess that is because of those neat sound effects you used. Do you have one of the LMX leased units?

  • mtrails DID NOT film, post, or narrate this video. I filmed this on my club layout as part of a series in conjunction with mtrails. A friend of his did the narration.

  • Well anways wesolint your video is awsome and very realistick.

  • Oh yeah, I have 2 LMX units in HO scale but have not filmed them yet.

  • That was just like watching one of those videos that are meant for training man... Was put together very well but dang it all to heck I felt like I was in a class room watching the video.

  • Is that good or bad???? Thank you, I think???

  • NICE MESS lol! great job once again!

  • Thanks, did you see my previous comments about the car?

  • yes i did.

  • Just to let you know, I resurrected that car from the "junk pile" just for this video series!

  • is it made of toothpicks, because i use them all the time.

  • The pallets are scratch built from pieces of scale lumber and the banding is actually tape from a model pin-striping kit.

  • oh ok, if it would have been me ive got so little money that id build it out of toothpicks and elmers glue, lol i dont got much money.

  • There are train sound effects CDs too. Look on the web, and again happy hunting!

  • These are real trains sounds recorded and shared by friends and just plain folk leaving them on the world wide web for all to use. Happy hunting!

  • Very cool. Cool mess in the boxcar

  • Thanks. The mess was built from scrap I had laying around on my work bench.

  • Can you mess some of my boxcars too? I have a bunch of stuff on my workbench...

  • I painted the floor too.

  • Well, it looks awesome

  • I think I need to lease you some Norfolk Southern... LOL I'd like to see some on your layout.

  • Go to my channel, find rdw283 (my subscriptions), see his Chasing the HO NS Baretable - its on this layout!

  • Yes BN ran (now BNSF still does) them nose to nose as you have better visibility.

  • Very cool! In fact I want to do a series like this in LEGO!

  • Go for it!

  • Hard to do, since the legos would arrive seperate. They mail these cars across the country

  • With your BN history, the way the switchers are coupled, that is the way it was done? nose against nose?

Very cool video, once again. Did I see that the track the switcher came on, was not connected to the other main ?

  • I've seen them coupled any which way, but the way I have them in the vid, dates back to when I saw my father (he too worked for the railroad - SP&S/BN) running a transfer thru town.

As for tracks connecting together, you can get to any of them one way or another. Although, the main line mostly represents double track.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • Excellent! another fine episode of TAA..

    Well Done..

  • Thank you sir!
