  • "WOW" Great song, very good note choice sounds great, my favorite part is at the 2:09 mark sounds bluesy, pinch harmonic scream is a nice touch, very soulfull

    Peace be with u

  • lovely and lyrical thanks

  • Beautiful!!

  • i really like the song, i kind of feel like it could be longer. such as adding a contrasting section in a minor key or something that develops and eventually resolves back to the main motifs. well done otherwise.

  • Beautiful !!!

  • Beautiful sounds. Wonderful composition. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the inspiration. I think I will be introducing the lap steel into the band I am with. This one video has answered a lot of questions I had about this instrument!

  • Great song, great playing. Well done.

  • Please could you give me the tuning...just got a lap steel and have put it to c6 tuning...is that the best.Cheers for your help.

  • do you recommend a Shubb SP2 for lap steel? I have a bottle type slide and want something different and don't know between a shubb style or those metal ball point style.. both cost over 20 bucks so I want to make the right choice. I mainly wanna play Hawaiian style (long key notes)

  • Very, very nice!

  • dang. my steels don't sound like that!

  • You are so good it drives me mad!You have an incredible feel.Check out my rendition of freight train,it's based on yours and tommy's approach-but without the talent!

  • Comment removed

  • Is a lap steel expensive? Is it possible to get one in Northern Ireland? Are they difficult to play compared to normal slide Guitar - EG Ron Wood style? Mind you I'm s shit guitar player - so much to learn - Theory plus pratice = brain hurts :)

  • Nice Ry Cooder Bop Til You Drop era sound to this song. Good stuff as usual

  • very ! very! NICE sond and soung ! enjoy !

  • Grymt !!

  • Simply Beauty ...

  • I just got wowed again from your amazing talent....is that song on one of your CDs?

  • Damn, that is nice....I'm just startin out.....

  • Just another fabulous tune; which now we have come to expect, and you always deliver and never fail to disappoint us.

    Michael

  • Hey There I really like that "screaming" sound you get at around 2:19. What are you doing there? I'm guessing pinch harmonic? real cool it would be awesome if you could share

  • @jamiejessup90

Thanks! It´s a harmonic produced by touching the palm of my picking hand an octave up from the "fretted" note while picking. It´s a great effect, but it´s tricky at first to hit the right spot.

  • You are a friggin' genius. I'm giving up guitar right now.

  • @moors49 Ha ha, thanks! But never quit playing..!

  • That ranks in the top 5 of the most beautiful things I have ever heard, dynamics are perfection, Jackson tone is incredible, love it all..

  • @bigscreenadventures Thank you for the kind words!

  • Truly incredible and inspiring, thank you...

  • GRYMT bra låt! Är det en 6- eller 8-strängad gura? Svårt att urskilja antalet.

  • @Backlund87

Tack! Det är en 6-strängad Supertone, öppen E-stämning.

  • That was awesome!

  • du är grym!:)

  • amazing!!!!

  • wow... utterly inspiring.

  • Bloody well done Mr, great tone, feeling and arrangement!!

    Cheers from Oz,

    Joel

  • Very nice sound a musci! Excelent techinique! That´s incridible what you can do with a Open E Tunning, in this video G. I have your videos in my HD. That´s a inspiration for me! Congratulations! Very Very good job! Your official tunning is open E or you use an other?

  • Thank you very much!

I mainly use open E for the lap steel, I have another Fender lap steel which is currently tuned to an open A6, but I haven´t really been using that... My squareneck resonator is tuned to open G (GBDGBD) or open D.

    Cheers

    Martin

  • I love it! Beautiful tune & fine playing.

Please sir, can we have some more?

    JW (UK)

  • Very cool! Like Santo meets Jeff Beck!

    Very nice work! -Don Walker

  • Dude this is magnificent. More please.

This world is drifting to a deep dark place. You cannot understand how important something this good is for everyone right now.

  • Absolutely beautiful. amazing playing and sound.

  • Thank you, that was nice to hear!

    Martin

  • ALL i can say is Damn alot of hard work there you are very good the sound was awesome

are you planning any concert near Lund in the near future ?

    keep on rocking

  • Thank you, tack så mycket!

Nja, tyvärr så har jag aldrig kommit igång med att spela eget material live...

    :)

    MVH/ Martin

  • so what are the odds getting this sound on a regular guitar instead of lap steel where the strings are a mile away from the frets sounds great i like it

  • Lots of guys get acoustics setup like that, thats not that uncommon to see.

  • Yep, you can get a new higher "nut" - I once had a little lap steel kit, which included a steel bar, finger picks and a steel nut that you placed under the strings at the zero fret.

But I´m thinking about getting a Weissenborn someday...

  • GREAT !!!

  • Very nice, like it a lot. 5 stars to that man, a treat for my ears.

  • Thank you for that!

  • very nice! :-)

  • Really great playing.

  • You're incredible. I've been watching your videos for a while now, but this tops it all. A new high. Thanks so much. This should get air play.

  • Thank you, that´s sweet of you!

    So glad you enjoyed it.

    Martin

  • Superb playing, Martin ! That´s how it should be and I enjoyed it very much. Gret feel in that tune, cheers !

  • great song man !

  • Excellent! *****

  • Awesome, I wish I had a lap steel and knew how to play it

  • You are one of the best guitarist I have ever seen. I recently purchased your CD. It is graet I play it all the time. Do your go on tour? It would great to hear you in person.

  • Thanks man - also for the purchase!

    Sorry, I don´t get out much :(

But I might have to start working in that direction...

    Regards

    Martin

  • Absolutley amazing!

  • What can you NOT do??? T:)

  • your album was great and this is superb, it would make a great score to a movie :)

  • Beautiful!!

  • Wow! I usually don't like steel but this is great!. Leave it to you to come up with something I can like on a lap steel.

  • You should hear Jerry Douglas.....

  • Thanks! Yes, check out Jerry Douglas, both on resonator and lap steel.

  • beautiful.... country ish, but not really... soo nice!

  • almost sounds like something sonny landreth would play (even though i know he plays guitar and not steel)

  • Thanks, I really like Mr Landreth. Certainly a slide guitar influence (and songwriter).

  • That sounds beautiful. I like the mood. Were those ACID Loops used in your older tracks (like Lyin' Eyes) or you used diferrent drums? I like the sound and would love to know more.

    Thanks,

    - Yeman

  • Hi Yeman, thanks!

On the older tracks I have only used "guitar percussion" (eg on Lyin´ Eyes), like if you hit the strings above the soundhole you get a bass drum sound, and at the fretboard a snare drum effect .

Some of the shakers and tambourines are ACID loops also. You can download lots of stuff like that, although I bought mine on CD. In Cakewalk (and other progs) you can often create your own loops (that changes with the tempo), so you don´t have to record all through the song.

  • Nice job, good melody and backing tracks, tone with just enough bite, clear playing and recording.

  • Du har ett ruskigt flyt i ditt spelande. Mycket bra jobbat! :)

  • Tack, glad att det är uppskattat!

    /Martin

  • Good man Martin. D.

  • Really beautiful music.

This song is makes me rellax.

    I'm greatful to you.

  • Martin,

That's a very catchy melody. I'll bet if you arranged a solo on the Baritone guitar it would be great as well!

    Jeff

  • awesome song!

this really makes me want to go learn lap steel...

  • Martin, great playing and great song! --John

  • Beautiful piece of music, Mr. Tallstrom.

  • you are shining like those 18 X 5 stars (so far) above. You are playing as if it was nothing .... Great artist...

  • Hi Martin! What an awesome song! Sounds really nice! 10 *

  • Wow!!! What happened at 2:18 ? Was that a harmonic?

*** Note to self: need to experiment more with my lapsteel... ***

  • Yep!

It´s one of those done with the palm of the right hand an octave above the "fretted" note.

It´s the steelers way of doing it. Problem is if you miss the octave spot, you wind up with nothing... :)

  • Sounds great Mr.Vius. 5/5

    Keep on pickin,

    Cheers!

    -Batman001

  • Thank you Batman!

  • amazing!bravo...

    Paul

Oh ya the wife says hi as well

  • Hey Paul, thanks!

I hope you are well too. Say hi to the wife!

    Take care

    Martin

  • It's a magical instrument when well played as martin does here ! Last week, I heard Daniel Lanois on stage with some lap steel songs, and wow, tears were coming easy ! He's a master ... His new release with his "Black Dub" group will come out very soon, I think.

  • Oh yeah, he´s good!

  • Beautiful!

  • great...

  • Thanks, I have always liked the sound of slide guitar etc, so I try to keep myself updated on the lap steel.

  • Very Cool,

    DDR

  • Hi Martin !

Nice solo we can watch here !

But could you tell us about other tracks ? I can hear drums and bass, but any acoustic guitar too, i think ...
