  • Totally awesome. What a fine piece of engineering and driving. I think that's the biggest RC I've ever seen flying indoors. Great demo all around. Skill !!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful landing!

  • It's slow because it has a very light wing-loading.

  • Absolutely incredible! What exactly makes it fly soooo slow though? Its not particularly light, but even when he had it gliding in for a landing it was still soooo slow!

  • When this said 8ft B-17 indoors, I did'nt believe it would be flying indoors. Great Job.

  • Do a barrel roll... :P

  • BOARING can it only do left hand turs and what up with all of the rudder

  • what was the cost of the build? is this a kit you can purchase and put togther in the garage?

  • lovely 5 star

  • If that isn't beautiful, i have NO idea what is! nice video and great model!

  • wow now that is impressive. Slow too! Is it all rudder & elevator in those turns?

  • What a beautiful, graceful flight and build. Very fitting for the old war girl B-17.

  • What is the flying weight?

  • @thechoosendude Flying weight is 4 lbs. 6 oz.

  • @RaceEagle89

Trying to do some rough wing loading figures in my head.... Man this thing flies slow! Great plane.

  • a snail just passed by :(

  • @fastandfurioustokyo LOL!! Cool isn't it. Thanks everyone for your comments.

  • @RaceEagle89 LMAO u know i ment that in a nice way. i would like to get one of those and maybe the snail's buddy the turtle will pass by too XD

  • @fastandfurioustokyo Hey, thanks for stopping by and posting a comment to this video. Maybe someday I will offer a kit of this plane.

  • bet its a handful outside ;P

  • @Derohk I really think it will fly good outside. Just not in 20 mph wind!

  • you can almost run after it!

  • @rcbuggyracingya I have been challenged to a foot race.

  • Incredible! sure beats the hell out of my foam cessna LOL

  • @avq30r31 Thanks, I think it flies like the real ones. The key to slow flight is low wing loading. Glad that you like it.

  • Yep..just noticed the undercamber,,smart..Can't stop watching the clip and showing it to my buddy modelers..they just couldn't beleive it..all are used to outdoor monsters that size..was a revelation to them to learn about slow-flights and how it used to be decades ago..w stick and tissue floaters..thanks again..great work..

  • wow, now all it needs are bomb bay doors :D

  • By the way...when u say motor speed...are u using vectored thrust?? or did u just mean general esc on all 4 motors? curious to know ab those tight turns...anyway..ur one heck of an rc pilot...and builder..congrats..great video quality too..

  • @modelmaker56 No vectored thrust; no differential thrust. Just lots of rudder.

  • Lovely..the slow speed is awesome..so scale-like..I bet it's very light and that wing is generating a lot of lift..seems like it's flying on rails too...must be the inertia due to size....and the gyro effect of 4 motors...look at it float...simply Superb..Cheers...

  • @modelmaker56 Thanks for the compliments guys. The Fortress weighs 4lbs6oz It was built with an under cambered wing for lift and slow flying ability. Powered by one 2 cell Lipo battery and four small 24gram electric motors that drive GWS 8x4.3 props.

  • I wish I could do that build and fly like that.

    Just like dreams.

  • Again, pray tell your All Up Weight....there's only one other person doing scale flying of larger airliners this way and he aint talkin about how he gets his weight low enough to fly slow and east.

This plan could be flow outside with some gyros to stabilize it if it doesn't like the wind.

Again, an inspiration to scratch builders

  • Nice landing. Looks like a fun flyer, given its size.

  • does it have enought power with light motors ? could it be flown outdoors ?

  • @peterm8133 Sure it can be flown outside. The Fortress cruises around on half throttle, so it would have enough power to fly in a lite breeze.

  • Do you guys post any of your plans?!

this would be a great weekend project

  • really cool stuff! nice flare too

  • @taterfamine Thanks, it's an awesome plane to fly too!

  • Just Fantastic!

  • Thanks, Pop! Glad you liked it. It's as fun to fly as it is to watch.

  • great landing !

  • Thanks Dan! He always does that. Makes me mad! 8-)

  • So you used the Fiddlers Green plans, blew them up and used them as a templet. How much does it weigh and do you fly it outside? Looks really good and flys great, Good job!

  • Flying weight of this B-17 Fortress is 4 pounds 6 ounces. It lumbers around at half throttle on 12 amps from a 2 cell Lipo battery. I have not flown it outside yet. I just wanted to build a BIG plane that could fly inside.

  • I bet it will fly good in a light breeze. 4 motors on a single two cell, must be small motors, I think I will attempt to build one, yours looks good and flys great.

  • thats sooooooo sweet

  • Damn fine flyin'

  • ohiorc, I don't have the plans anymore. You can purchase plans from Fiddlers Green. Then you have to modify them to make an 8 Foot wingspan.

  • how much for the plans

  • how much ive been looking for a b 17 such as this

  • This plane was scratch built using 1/4 BlueCor foam and using Fiddlers Green's plans. Sorry, this plane is not for sale, but you could build one too.

    Thanks for posting

  • ok, couldnt see the surface's moving. Great Model

  • Nice plane!

  • control is just by motor speeds?

  • Heartland, Control is by motor speed, rudder, elevator, and ailerons.

  • thats a beautiful plane very nice job

  • Awesome!... That's the closest to scale B-17 flying-speed I've ever seen!! 5-stars!

  • Love to have the plans for this

  • One of the best i have seen from foam ;-) 10 out of 10=5*

  • Ummm...plans? There's really not much else to say, well ok there is, that's freaking awesome.

  • Hi, im sending you a pm mate :)

  • Uhhhhh! uhhhh! uhhhhh! what can I say? Just uhh uhh uhh beauh beauhhh beauhhhti fuuulllhhh! werrrrrrynice!!!!!!!

  • What a beauty!! A real floater. nice build.

  • Thank you for the compliment. There is another video of it titled 8-Foot B-17 Model under Related Videos.

  • At least it doesn't fly at mach 2 like most B-17 models!

  • Comment removed

  • Jack, The B-17 was custom made from 1/4 inch insulation foam. The secret for good flying is very light weight and the larger the better. Gary

  • Are you telling me this model is made out of card using the fiddlersgreen B-17? (I have the B-24). How would you make the servos work?

    Jack

  • Do you know where I could get one of these? or is it custom built. what is the formula to make it fly so beautifully,

    Jack

  • WOW!!! LOVE IT!

  • Got it! PE-8/TB-7 will be flying in the near future. GREAT!

  • Sorry; did not quite understand the translation to English.

  • I didn't quite get it either. I think it included something towards on board video. ?

  • Кстати в недалеком будущем (года этак через 2) наш аналог (Пе-8 (Тб-7)) возможно увидим тоже в полете.

  • Это с какой скоростью он летит?!

  • It flies approximately 15 mph.

Thanks for your post all the way from Russia!

  • I want one! Beautiful! Good flying skills. I want one! Could you make a kit for me? I know you're keeping it light, but retracts would be great ( and not add a lot of weight). Did I mention "I want one"?

  • Awesome ship !! Flight looks very scale ! Is that a full under cambered airfoil I'm seeing in the video ?? I'm sure it will fly beautifully outdoors on a calm day. The ultimate Park Flyer !! I'm building a Pat Trittle 78" B-17. It has a symmetrical airfoil, which I question whether it will fly slow enough to look scale. Might consider a modification ?

  • Incredible that this monster can fly that slowly and gracefully. I agree with Dave that the model making skills on display here are second to none. And this thing was built out of Blu-Cor!

  • What an amazing build! Your skills are off the scale!

  • Just wondering, but what is the purpose of an indoor model that big? Can it do anything other than just fly circles? It's a beautiful plane.

  • It is a challenge to build and fly indoors. It is built to fly scale, the real ones pretty much only flew gentle turns.
