Menendez is on the banking committee, trying to "make it safe for NJ. " He should lose his job next election.
Sept. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel Prize- winning economist, said the U.S. has failed to fix the underlying problems of its banking system after the credit crunch and the collapse of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.
If only economists made public policy. I would rather have peopel who understand Economics working on a solution to this financial turmoil than a bunch of lawyers whose time horizon goes beyond the next election day. Actually if economists were running things we would not even be in this mess in the first place because they would not have imposed demands on lenders to lend to people who cannot pay their mortagages.
Not listening to economists has gotten us a half-trillion-dollar budget deficit, entitlement programs we cannot hope to pay for, federal grant programs that have turned into open-ended pork barrels, costly regulations, and a borrow-and-spend mentality that can look no further than the next election cycle.
Still wish to defend your position, Senator? Are you feeling my pain, now?
Senator Menendez - the employment picture in NJ does not exist. You appear to be supporting the WTO, NAFTA and keep talking about long term change. WELL - the citizens cannot buy into it and have suffered with depletion of Constitutional rights and Liberty. I vote for the person that can kick the WTO, NAFTA, UN, EU out of the United States of America. So far Congress has minus zero points in supporting we the people.
Governor Kathleen Sebelius is a STRONG WOMAN, the "right woman" for the white house as VicePresident. She is strong by being HERSELF ( no lies or barking like hillary ).
That's not what he was incinuating. He was saying that economists should be used to look at economic abstracts. Whole other sets of skills are required to make pulic policy, using economic abstracts is a vital tool in that set but the creation whole should be done by somebody with a broader set of tools than economists.
As an Econ major in college, I learned that the Economists first worked for the Kings and Queens. In history, they advised them to make certain that there were a tremendous amount of people in poverty so that they would always have cheap labor. So, I no longer listen to most of those people.
God give it up jbvoter, you freakin retard. This isn't 15th century England, it's the 21st Century and scientists opinions (economic scientists included), are valued. Stop spamming your ignorant bullshit in all these videos.
I totally agree. Thank goodness Ron Paul didn't win. Someone who understands economics, what a joke that would be. I want someone who knows nothing to be the president.
Hillary Clinton goes to the doctor and he says, "mrs clinton you need to have your gal bladder removed, you have gal stones." Hillary is like GWB though, she doesnt listen to the so called "expert." instead she goes with her instincts and has her liver removed because she thinks it will help. she dies, end of story. listen to people who know what they are talking about, not pandering politicians.
What happened to the power of experience? Hillary is basically saying that she knows better than experienced economist. It directly contradicts one her biggest argument that experience is best.
I appreciate your enthusiasm, but for those that don't speak Italian, Forza means strength. The common vernacular is like "Power to the Unions" or "The Lakers Kick Ass"
Americans have been lead to believe that "workers rights" is somehow a "socialist" activity. The truth is there has to be balance in the system for workers and companies. Right now there is NO balance. Corporations have taken complete control, not just economically but politically as well.
YES, together we beat Obama!!!! Clinton and McCain fans unite!! I'm from Indiana and I voted Hillary today. Obama will be stopped. Republicans would rather face Clinton!!!!
Obama will be destroyed, and Hillary will do it for us. McCain doesn't even need to dirty his hands. You democrats are being played like a fiddle and there is nothing you can do about it.
Ramussen has Obama and McCain tied, mkay? If McCain can't do any better than Obama now, with the Democratic Party split down the middle and the media bombarding us with Reverend Wright, that doesn't bode well for him in the general election.
It's only a matter of time before Hillary is out. There's no need to force her out early. But McCain had his shot to be president in 2000. He was still the "maverick" with political integrity then, and should have done us all a favor and sent Bush back to Texas. That man is gone, and this McCain is barely a shadow of the man that should have won in 2000.
Thank god we don't listen to military experts before invading a country, thanks god we don't listen to medical experts when we design a medical system, thank god we don't listen to people who know what they are actually talking about before we make rushed terrible decisions.
But, Vince Foster died with no powder burns on his hands. Shot himself in the mouth, with no powder burns?
NO! It was not investigated to a point where it does not matter unless you are stupid, immoral, unethical, wicked, too old to remember, or too young to have heard about it.
Discount professionals when they need to, and use them when they need to. They do whatever they need to win.
I am so sick of these pandering sickening Clinton Machine liars!
I am sending money WHOEVER RUNS AGAINST MENENDEZ! Watch! I'm looking his dumb ass up and following his next race like a KMart suit-- All over his dumb ass!
Pandering Liars tyring to bring home the Spanishy vote?
I wonder if this lack of respect for American intellect has to do with us being complacent about the 2000 and 2004 Stolen Elections, and the events on 911?
All the scenario's had obvious fraud, and we all did nothing. Look how much they are charging for gasoline, then on the same segment they mention openly that oil companies are making record profits.
The honestly are disrespecting all of us each day, on TV. They laugh after the camera is turned off.
Only in the year 2008 can something so ridiculous as this statement be played on national TV and it gets very little attention.
This is like saying, you don't need a Cardiologist to have a Triple Bypass. You can get that done at any Dentist Office, or Bakery in town. Or how about, why take the advice of a Stock Broker, when my cousin Vinney is a Champion Poker player?
They truly think Americans are dumb. Our government is 100% convinced we are all dumb.
The Obama-libbys on YouTube are stupid. They're so cynical, and hateful because of George Bush, and now they actually think people Keith Olberman are SMART. I mean what happened to our country where a man can write a book, make a few day time talk show appearances, run for president, and actually win elections? Barack Obama is the most astounding example of delinquent uproar since Andrew Jackson.
Thank God that economists don't make policy, because they don't feel the pain of normal Americans. I'm so glad that such down to earth people are running the show. They only make $165,200 a year (minimum). They can really feel my pain.
Btw, the median economist salary in the private sector is about $107,000. Slightly less when you count the public sector.
Economists are not saying that the public does not need relief. They are saying that removing the tax would not provide relief!
Also, a misnomer is when you call something by a misleading name. Like calling the the lifting of the 18cent gas tax a "holiday".
Or saying that the sniper fire comments were "misspeaks".
Or calling the graphite in your pencil, "pencil lead".
Although, "misspeaks" and "holiday" could also be called euphemisms. Which is when you use a word that flatters, downplays, or makes something sound better than it is.
Like in ads, when unessential adjectives are added to enhance appeal.
Paul Krugman, a well respected Economist who supports Hillary, said that the plan won't result in her desired effect.
The tax comes off, people buy equal or more gas (thereby not reducing demand, but maintaining or increasing it), so Oil companies raise prices to fill in the gap left behind when the tax leaves, the windfall profits tax takes that money back and puts it into the transit fund.
gas is not cheaper, people pay the same, the money travels in one Oil Pocket and out the other.
The price of gas isn't based on demand currently, nor has it been for the last several years Dewey. That's a misnomer, spun by Obama, who's triangulating with George Bush on this matter. These political games aren't helping the voters of Indiana of North Carolina. Why don't you stop with your Obama bred lies and attacks, so that voters can get the facts?
So economist, who study the economy, who exist in both parties and as independents, who claim that Oil Prices are affected by demand, they are all wrong?
Oil prices right now are also affected, arguably more so, by the value of the dollar. Oil, being priced in dollars, dollars losing value, those who create the oil and deal it out are increasing the price because the demand is the same but it costs them more to creates and sell it.
"Thank God" That America can still get the "truth" without the help of moveonusnewsmedia...That makes this the No.#1 website.."theobamafile"...and pass the'truth' on.
The truth is, poorer people vote for Hillary because she's more aggressive on the economy, and richer people vote for Obama because his social changes make them comfortable with themselves, and he won't be competent in redistributing wealth.
Tennessee is in the bottom 10 in education. We pay less taxes per person than any other state and we don't appreciate attainment. Most people make a decent wage and say "why should I pay more so that schools are better when I didn't need much."
That's a selfish philosophy in my view. I benefited greatly from a well-funded public school in Ohio: free arts programs, free sports, and the empowerment that comes along with confidence built on experiences.
And if you want the facts, look into Hillary's policy proposals instead of relying on a sound bite from Veracifier. The truth is that a windfall tax on Oil Company profits will regulate gas prices, in addition to prosecuting the market manipulation. I have yet to hear Barack mention anything of substance on these issues. He has spent all his time turning this tax proposal into a wedge issue, and as we see with Veracifier, the tactic is working.
This tax holidy is bullshit and Hillary knows it. It's a gimic to get more of the naive vote that she's been working for. Trick them into thinking you still have a chance, then trick them into voting for you by whatever means necessary.
Know your presidential candidate before you vote....Go to the No.#1 website on the internet and find out the 'truth' that moveon doesn't want you to know.."theobamafile"
what?? another congressman talkimg out of both sides of his mouth and ass at the same time??? how did this law breaker ever get re elected oh thats right he represents illegals first them Americans(who he has mob buddies shake down) its rockefeller vs chase/morgan not hill v obama wake the fuck up
mcinsane has rothschild support even a fundraiser in london...what state is that in???
We were just starting to get to him when his mom yelled downstairs to him, "Son, you've been at the computer all day. Go out and cut the grass for me."
I appreciate the sentiments of my well-mannered friends joining in. We will have to bring Zeiters types into the fray at some point and let him know what goodness is.
Obama supporters are sexist? LOL! I've never heard someone say "I'm voting for Obama because he's a man" However, I've heard many women say "There needs to be a woman in charge" or "Im voting for Hillary because she's a woman and thats what we need"..
Obama Supporters are Uneducated? Its been CONFIRMED that, compared to Hillary, Obama gets more of the Peoples votes with college degrees, while Hillary gets more of the votes of people that have no higher education than high school.
The American higher education system is biased if you haven't noticed, and acts more as a means of handing down wealth from generation to generation than accessing an individual's intelligence and ability to succeed. For that matter, the demographics are more media fabrications than anything.
thinks its impossible for anyone other than him to be right
If he does win the presidency, then after the first two year, he should probably come to grips with how policy is actually executed. And then he can begin devising a presidential platform!
Of course who knows how many Americans will be dead by then, but oh well.
You present your angry, misguided spatterings as if they are arguments, but you aren't arguing anything.
Your defense mechanisms are hilarious and nobody takes you seriously.
**bllppppt** I just farted on your home page homie.
Hillary has proposed this to be passed this summer. It will never happen. Bush has promised to veto any version of it and the Democrats won't vote for it. It's bad policy. Everyone sees it.
Hillary can't execute presidential action as a Senator. Its so typical of an Obama supporter to twist Hillary's policy proposal's into "lies" or "gimmicks" But many Obama supporters are sexist and unintelligent. A double whammy!
"Obama supporters are sexist because they hate women" - statement.
Research has consistently shown that Obama's supporters have a higher attainment level of education, therefore Obama's supporters are better educated than Hillary's. - argument.
Oh and also, attaining higher education doesn't absolve one of prejudice. As we've seen many of Obama's elitist supporters have stooped to such levels as calling Hillary a "monster," and colluding her with her husband to suggest that she can't think with a man.
Lol Baronmorris thanks for pointing out the most obvious hole in Barack's credibility. How does he attract both Farrakan and Tom Hanks? Young college kids and Jeremiah Wright? Because he's a vacuous superficial candidate, whose votes are based on personality dumbass! Hahahaha oh dear, Obama supporters
Sorry America - there are too many racists in your country to allow a black man to be elected president. Just look at the withering scrutiny that he has undergone. If he had lied about sniper fire, we'd still be hearing about it.
How on earth is that a good idea? But there will always be fools in this world who believe everything they hear. Too bad for Obama and then the rest of the world.
Where was Barack's outrage when George Bush used tax dollars to buoy corporations? Man if he's THIS selective about his outrage he's a serious danger to the entire country.
Obama hasn't expressed outrage over Bush's very illegal bribe of Morgan Stanely to convince them to invest into Bear Sterns. Bush's actions are absolute Communism, and in complete violation of his oath of office. It was Bush's fault this economic collapse is happening and yet NONE of the candidates, including Obama, are taking any serious steps to prevent the bribe, or prosecute Bush for even attempting it. He, like the other 500 assholes in Congress, is a danger to the entire country.
This guy is a retard. This isn't temporary relief. IT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE AND RELIES WAY TOO MUCH ON GAS COMPANIES CARING ABOUT THE PUBLIC MORE THAN THEY CARE ABOUT RAISING PRICES TO CONTINUE TO MAKE PROFIT. Come on people if you vote for Hilary for the gas tax then you are one of the stupidest people in this country.
I seriously doubt Hillary's policy has been exercised before. This looks more like a ploy by Obama's supporters, and the Democratic elders to once again attack Hillary Clinton's character. Obama is basically writing the play book for John McCain if Hillary gets the nomination.
They've already tried suspending the gas tax in other areas. It's not even Hilary's policy. It was John McCain's first, then Hilary jumped on it, Obama understands that it has been done before and never panned out.
One of the very saddest things about this country is that a slavishly pandering, I'll-do-anything-to-get-elected person like billary clinton is viewed as a serious contender to lead this country. That anyone takes even a second to decide between her obsequious falseness and Barak Obama's hopeful message for this country... is ridiculous. Worse than that, four years of mccain is coming thanks to billary's slash 'n burn. Good job you sick, selfish people!!!
One of the very saddest things about this country is that a shallow, unqualified, lying, twad like Barack Obama is viewed as a seriosu contender to o lead this country. That anyone even takes a second to consider Barack Obama as anything more than one of Oprah's Favorite Thing is a malpractice against the American people.
Yes because riding your husband's coattails for years and then carpetbagging your way to an easy senate seat makes you qualified to be the next leader of the free world
I'm an economist and I feel offended by these remarks. We're human just like everyone else. We feel pain. Thank God Hillary has no chance of being elected president.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
theiegendistrue, you provide a valuable insight into the widespread infection that are Obama's supporters. And with that said, you completely illustrate why these 100 economists who dislike a gas tax holiday, are illegitimate.
Yes, "Thank god we don't have economists making public policy"...
You mean economists like the fomer Federal Reserve chairman from 87-06 Alan Greenspan? How about those in the U.S Department of Labor where a master's or Ph.D. degree in economics is REQUIRED? Bob Menendez, who's NJ's senator supporting Hillary, is a pandering, lying, farse...
Economists are like movie critics. Yes, maybe a certain critic says a movie sucks and you go see it and you like it anyway. That happens fairly frequently because people's tastes are different. But if you check out a movie on Rotten Tomatoes and you see there are 100 reviews and not one positive one, then you can be pretty sure the flick is a dog.
If economists disagree, then we can have a discussion about relative merits. If they all agree, then the economists are probably right.
I think it is strange that someone who was educated at Wellesley College and Yale Law School (President Bill Clinton was educated at Georgetown University and Oxford
Yale Law School), can suddenly call people that are educated and well informed elitist and say that they are out of touch with middle class America. I want people that are educated and well informed making policy decisions on every subject.
Unlike Obama supporters, real Americans don't think its elitist to be educated. In fact, that's part of the American dream. Now if Americans could only afford those students loans... hey! I think I just figured out why they're voting for Hillary!
Hey dumbass, both Barack and Michelle were strapped with over a 100K of student loans when they got out of school. What about your gal? I'm a real American, and I think you're some hack typing away from HRC headquarters rehashing the Jazz Hands bullshit her campaign is made of.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Barack and Michelle also are now millionaires, and went straight into the hedge funds and dirty politics after they graduated. Hillary? Oh she took on student loans, but then dedicated her life to helping children. Don't even try to pull that crap.
Just admit you hate Barack, and that this isn't an intellectual pursuit for you. I've stated I'll get behind HRC, despite her lack of candor, should she get the knod, would you do the same for Barack? We are both, ostensibly, in the same party.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well I'm glad you can see through the haze of irrational Obama-voting. I personally will not stoop to the level of supporting Obama in any capacity. If he ran for director of public speaking just in my town I'd say nay.
Fuck you then, you're a hateful piece of shit. I tried to be nice, but obviously that's impossible with some, so I reiterate emphatically: FUCK YOU! I checked your page, you're one of the Rev Wright haters equating statements by a member of an oppressed minority with institutionalized white racism in this country, sorry, that dog only hunts on the right wing talk radio.
hahaha ahhh Obama supporters "FUCK YOU! YOU'RE HATEFUL!" lOL someone needs to made a political cartoon of Barack sitting in shit saying "We can't elect my poo covered opponents!"
hey hateboy, i exhausted my ability to be polite responding to your hateful nonsense, and responded in kind. Your "facts" are total bullshit, and amount to spin.
I called you hateful because of your reliance on the race baiting Rev Wright issue to slam Obama. I further stated that I'd vote for Hillary should she get the knod, and you stated you would not extend that courtesy to Obama, thus you are not a real democrat.
I think the only hateful person in this discussion is the person bringing up race moejardines. You can make a scare crow of me and burn it at your next Black Panther/self-loathing white people rally. I'm going to spend my time debating issues and voting for the best candidate.
You're the asshole calling a fellow democrat a fascist you loser. We have to come together to beat McCain, and you seem to want no part of that. Hillary will get my vote should she take this, but apparently you aren't willing to play fairly.
There's no such thing as a fair game in which Barack is a participant. If he becomes the nominee the only saving grace for the party will be a McCain victory.
Dude enough with the Obama hating Sound Bites. I'm sure if he was the antichrist like you are making him out to be, he would have been forced to drop out of this race earlier. Your rhetoric fails to advance the debate in any meaningfully way and has just become annoying now.
Support of Obama fails to advance the debate in any meaningful way. Its all grasping at straws, "we gotta change Washington!" nonsense. Revoke your support of Obama, vote for Hillary like a good liberal, and stop calling dissenters of Obama hateful for that matter. Enough with the race card, do as I say not as I do bullshit.
Well, Bill Clinton opened the 'race card' can of worms, so point your finger elsewhere. Secondly, attacking our sense that Washington belongs to special intrest parties our desire to change that is like repremanding us for seeking water to put douse a raging fire. You're an idiot, you deserve the criticism. And WTF "vote Hillary like a good liberal..." Maybe you're being facetious? I can't really tell.
Sorry, culberapex, your statements are the exact kind of propaganda the Obama campaign relies on. If Bill Clinton "opened up the race card can" then apparently the phrase "fairy tale" is now a racial slur, and we should ban Cinderella from all public schools so we can all "unify" You can go fuck yourself with your exploitative pseudo political correctness.
Hahaha, I'm voting Libertarian. Do you actually think I'd vote for Obama just because Clinton sucks? No, what about Obama's pledge to spend 800billion US dollars over the next 13 years to end world hunger, when our own food costs are doubling almost monthly? They're both out of step with what America needs. Now, in the ADULT world, we can like some things about a candidate and not others, and we can point at flawed policy even if we like the candidate. Who's the propagandist here? lolxxxxxxxxxxx
Since both major parties are basically the same, and since all 'lead' candidates are basically the same, the best way to send a message to the political world is to vote 3rd party. We can all see that Voting for Hillary is no different that voting for McCain, or Bush, or her Husband, or Bush Sr. or Reagan, or any of the other Special Interest Puppet Presidents. Why is everyone assuming that electing Obama--a shameless socialist who hates individual liberty--will be any different?
It's not a question of propaganda, culver. Ending world poverty is simply a good idea. Both from an ethical as well as a pragmatic POV, elevating the standard of living for the desperately poor makes a lot of sense. That income disparity drives both the export of American jobs and the influx of illegal aliens. If you need to run a cost/benefit analysis to save people from dying a miserable death, the practical advantage to Americans is plain to see. Obama can see it. So can Chuck Hagel.
I agree that its a noble goal, and yet we're all ignoring the fact that the desperately poor in this nation are already suffering. The difference is that they work a full time job, and yet fall far short of covering the costs of living. And so they have to choose between rent, heat, food, and medicine. And now our food costs have gone up 281% since November of last year, and yet nobody seems to recognize the the poor--tax paying--folk in this country are of top concern for humanitarian aid.
And so those facts leave me wondering why I should support any candidate who wants to spend more money that we don't have, when we already don't have enough to take care of our own Nation's Domestic Problems. Why do you all assume that American's are rich simply because America is rich? When was the last time any of you visited the schools and communities of our own working-class-poor? If you took the time, you'd see that they too live in 3rd world conditions. What solutions have been offered? 0
I'm glad to hear someone who sees this. I will never understand why we have all this 'foreign aid', why Oprah will build her 'special school' in SOUTH AFRICA, why all the celebs want to support tsunami victims when one of our GREATEST CITIES was DROWNING!
I want people to read "Gordon Sinclair - The Americans" I hope it gives a greater insight as to who we are in this world. Although it was written (and spoken on the radio) in 1973, most of the messages still apply (if not more so) today.
"Unlike Obama supporters, real Americans don't think its elitist to be educated"
By this rationale: I would think it is elitist to be educated. I never inferred that, I just noted the irony in someone with Clinton's background calling someone elite and out of touch with middle class America.
Also, that would mean that the Obama campaign would be attack the Clinton campaign and painting them as elitist.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That's exactly what you inferred moron. Haha you think the elite are a bunch of educated people, like George Bush. Like all Obama's supporters you worship anything he tells you to. AND ON THE FOURTH DAY I SAID WORSHIP MY LIBERAL ELITE FOLLOWING BITCH! "ooo sista O-baaaaa-ma yessah yessah yessah!"
Everyone forgot "Cattle Future Gate" where because she is an elites, she had inside information, "WhiteWater Gate" where she made money on Bill Cintons permits and everyone in-the-know Died untimely deaths, "Walmart Gate" where she and Clinton Sold Missile Technogies in exchange for Cheap Slave Labor to build our toothbrushes and Happymeal toys. This Women is an Elitist and will be more than happy to steal, kill and destory if it suits her.
Pandering to people's greed rarely loses votes. Hillary and McCain are cynical politicians out for themselves. They will say and do anything to achieve office.
Ah yes, John McCain is a cynical politician out for himself. He only underwent torture and came back to work for this country full time, and at an age where he could be living comfortably somewhere in the Caribbean. Really, mcresearch, stop the spinning.
if we had economists making policy maybe the policies would make sense for once. this is not a relief as the federal tax is used for infrastructure. if this so called tax holiday were put in place, higher demand would increase the price. only this time money goes into the pockets of the oil companies. This is ridiculous.what a disgrace that the level of discourse keeps reaching new lows like this. The question remains, how low will we go?
THINK about it guy, the oil companies are simply going to raise prices to cover any attack on their bottom line via a windfall profit tax. This money funds roads and bridges, and last year 13 people died because a bridge collapsed in Minnesota. The nation's transpo system is crumbling brother, and these funds are vital.
I do think about it. I think it's a crappy ideal but anytime the federal gov. wants to let me not pay one of their many taxes I go for it. I also know there is no way in hell GW Bush would sign anything like it. These are bad times all around for alot of people.
Okay, you're reacting emotionally to this and perhaps HRC is counting on your knee jerk here. This "tax holiday" cannot happen, its a rhetorical ploy, Bush will veto anything like this, he said so. It is dead in the water in congress too. She's basically talking about something she cannot possibly deliver in order to bamboozle voters on a simplistic, emotional issue, and McCain's doing the same thing.
And it's going to work. Think about the makeup of Clinton voters. Older, lower income, lower educated (and before I get nasty messages, I'm just interpreting exit polls).
Essentially, people who don't think. Really.
Obama has brought in all these new voters because he's asking them to think. He's asking them to hope. And they're obliging.
I've continually made the point that HRC would be a decent president, but that I'm personally offended by the "bread and circuses" puppet show she's run. There is no doubt that she is blindingly intelligent, however, I am offended that, as voters, we're all being spoon fed diversionary silliness and empty promises. Maybe its that smart play, but its dirty, despicable, and insulting to the American people.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Obama's brought in new votes exactly because he's told voters to stop thinking. He hates when anyone questions him, and is alkward in situations that aren't all about his ego and rhetoric. "Stop thinking, vote Obama-king!" That could be his campaign slogan!
All I said was, it sounds good to me. I'm going to vote for whoever has a "D" in front of their name.If they get the Democratic nomination by hook or crook don't really care. The real reason gas prices are so high is because Iraq is putting out less than half of the oil they did before the war thus making a shortage in supply. Both Obama and Clinton want us out of there and if we were, that would mean more oil on the world market and the price would go down.
Yeah your spot on there. Gas prices aint expensive in america when you compare it to anywhere else in the world though, in Britain 1 litre of diesel costs £1.24 which is $2.50 now thats crazy
Its debatable how much Hillary's gas tax plan will lower gas prices. What Obama supporters (ie. Veracifier, Tim Russert, virtually every major news outlet with few exceptions) won't tell you, is that Hillary's windfall profits tax will control how much money Oil Companies can make. In other words, Obama's and his coalition of the cable news channels' attack is not only a fabrication, but frankly an attack on the American Middle Class.
If you want to end the George Bush's elitism, vote Hillary
Zeiters you're a hater who makes up a lot of nonsense. Okay, lets reason through this. The gov't taxes the oil company on their profits under HRC's plan, they raise their prices, they make more money, they pay more taxes, its a push for them. They lose nothing, but the consumer still pays the same. the gov't would get the money, and the oil companies maintain their profits, while the consumer gets zero benefit. HRC's plan at least comes up with highway money, while McCain's is lose-lose.
I know it's pandering. Thats why I called it a bandage on a bullet wound. Even if something like it got passed and signed it would still only bring the price down a little compaired to last year and only for a short time .Not enough to create a feeling of comfort for people at the pumps. But again when the gov wants me to not pay one of their taxes I go for it.
LOL, "those elitist rich caviar eating economists"
I understand all the rich children are becoming economist because it guarantees a 7 figure income...no wait that is politicians

As an Econ major in college, I learned that the Economists first worked for the Kings and Queens. In history, they advised them to make certain that there were a tremendous amount of people in poverty so that they would always have cheap labor. So, I no longer listen to most of those people.

Americans have been lead to believe that "workers rights" is somehow a "socialist" activity. The truth is there has to be balance in the system for workers and companies. Right now there is NO balance. Corporations have taken complete control, not just economically but politically as well.

Deweydecible 3 years ago
ultimately a sum zero ploy of nothing
Deweydecible 3 years ago 2
Paul Krugman, a well respected Economist who supports Hillary, said that the plan won't result in her desired effect.
The tax comes off, people buy equal or more gas (thereby not reducing demand, but maintaining or increasing it), so Oil companies raise prices to fill in the gap left behind when the tax leaves, the windfall profits tax takes that money back and puts it into the transit fund.
gas is not cheaper, people pay the same, the money travels in one Oil Pocket and out the other.
Deweydecible 3 years ago
The price of gas isn't based on demand currently, nor has it been for the last several years Dewey. That's a misnomer, spun by Obama, who's triangulating with George Bush on this matter. These political games aren't helping the voters of Indiana of North Carolina. Why don't you stop with your Obama bred lies and attacks, so that voters can get the facts?
zeiters20 3 years ago
So economist, who study the economy, who exist in both parties and as independents, who claim that Oil Prices are affected by demand, they are all wrong?
Oil prices right now are also affected, arguably more so, by the value of the dollar. Oil, being priced in dollars, dollars losing value, those who create the oil and deal it out are increasing the price because the demand is the same but it costs them more to creates and sell it.
So tell me again why demand doesn't matter...?

Zeiters, I'm a middle class man who paid my way through state school in Tennessee.
The only bias I found in college is towards rationale, facts, reconciliation, broader understanding, and self empowerment through learning.
Hillary appears tougher on the economy because she has to beat that drum: "Obama is not tough, I am".
I support Obama for completely different reasons than any of the bs you have ever stated.
Deweydecible 3 years ago
Yeah I think your state voted for Bush Dewey.
zeiters20 3 years ago
yes, they did twice.
Deweydecible 3 years ago 3
And if you want the facts, look into Hillary's policy proposals instead of relying on a sound bite from Veracifier. The truth is that a windfall tax on Oil Company profits will regulate gas prices, in addition to prosecuting the market manipulation. I have yet to hear Barack mention anything of substance on these issues. He has spent all his time turning this tax proposal into a wedge issue, and as we see with Veracifier, the tactic is working.

So can Chuck Hagel.
geroldf 3 years ago
I agree that its a noble goal, and yet we're all ignoring the fact that the desperately poor in this nation are already suffering. The difference is that they work a full time job, and yet fall far short of covering the costs of living. And so they have to choose between rent, heat, food, and medicine. And now our food costs have gone up 281% since November of last year, and yet nobody seems to recognize the the poor--tax paying--folk in this country are of top concern for humanitarian aid.
culverapex 3 years ago

Pandering to people's greed rarely loses votes. Hillary and McCain are cynical politicians out for themselves. They will say and do anything to achieve office.
mcresearch 3 years ago
Ah yes, John McCain is a cynical politician out for himself. He only underwent torture and came back to work for this country full time, and at an age where he could be living comfortably somewhere in the Caribbean. Really, mcresearch, stop the spinning.

But he wouldn't have any power in the Caribbean

if we had economists making policy maybe the policies would make sense for once. this is not a relief as the federal tax is used for infrastructure. if this so called tax holiday were put in place, higher demand would increase the price. only this time money goes into the pockets of the oil companies. This is ridiculous.what a disgrace that the level of discourse keeps reaching new lows like this. The question remains, how low will we go?

He's right. It may be a bandage on a bullet wound but it still sounds good to me.
doug47130 3 years ago
THINK about it guy, the oil companies are simply going to raise prices to cover any attack on their bottom line via a windfall profit tax. This money funds roads and bridges, and last year 13 people died because a bridge collapsed in Minnesota. The nation's transpo system is crumbling brother, and these funds are vital.
moejardines 3 years ago 4
I do think about it. I think it's a crappy ideal but anytime the federal gov. wants to let me not pay one of their many taxes I go for it. I also know there is no way in hell GW Bush would sign anything like it. These are bad times all around for alot of people.
doug47130 3 years ago
Okay, you're reacting emotionally to this and perhaps HRC is counting on your knee jerk here. This "tax holiday" cannot happen, its a rhetorical ploy, Bush will veto anything like this, he said so. It is dead in the water in congress too. She's basically talking about something she cannot possibly deliver in order to bamboozle voters on a simplistic, emotional issue, and McCain's doing the same thing.
moejardines 3 years ago
And it's going to work. Think about the makeup of Clinton voters. Older, lower income, lower educated (and before I get nasty messages, I'm just interpreting exit polls).
Essentially, people who don't think. Really.
Obama has brought in all these new voters because he's asking them to think. He's asking them to hope. And they're obliging.
eljefereal 3 years ago 3
I've continually made the point that HRC would be a decent president, but that I'm personally offended by the "bread and circuses" puppet show she's run. There is no doubt that she is blindingly intelligent, however, I am offended that, as voters, we're all being spoon fed diversionary silliness and empty promises. Maybe its that smart play, but its dirty, despicable, and insulting to the American people.

Obama's brought in new votes exactly because he's told voters to stop thinking. He hates when anyone questions him, and is alkward in situations that aren't all about his ego and rhetoric. "Stop thinking, vote Obama-king!" That could be his campaign slogan!

Presidential platforms don't occur until a president is elected moejardines. Otherwise no one would run for president.

Both Obama and Clinton want us out of there and if we were, that would mean more oil on the world market and the price would go down.
doug47130 3 years ago
Yeah your spot on there. Gas prices aint expensive in america when you compare it to anywhere else in the world though, in Britain 1 litre of diesel costs £1.24 which is $2.50 now thats crazy
ImaScotsman 3 years ago
Amen brother, I think Hillary would be a very competent leader, but I'll never trust her.
moejardines 3 years ago 2
Its debatable how much Hillary's gas tax plan will lower gas prices. What Obama supporters (ie. Veracifier, Tim Russert, virtually every major news outlet with few exceptions) won't tell you, is that Hillary's windfall profits tax will control how much money Oil Companies can make. In other words, Obama's and his coalition of the cable news channels' attack is not only a fabrication, but frankly an attack on the American Middle Class.
If you want to end the George Bush's elitism, vote Hillary
zeiters20 3 years ago
Zeiters you're a hater who makes up a lot of nonsense. Okay, lets reason through this. The gov't taxes the oil company on their profits under HRC's plan, they raise their prices, they make more money, they pay more taxes, its a push for them. They lose nothing, but the consumer still pays the same. the gov't would get the money, and the oil companies maintain their profits, while the consumer gets zero benefit. HRC's plan at least comes up with highway money, while McCain's is lose-lose.
moejardines 3 years ago
Its pandering bullshit that just increases consumption, people think wow its cheaper il buy more.
ImaScotsman 3 years ago 5
I know it's pandering. Thats why I called it a bandage on a bullet wound. Even if something like it got passed and signed it would still only bring the price down a little compaired to last year and only for a short time .Not enough to create a feeling of comfort for people at the pumps. But again when the gov wants me to not pay one of their taxes I go for it.
