I guess they're too hard to work with compared to CGI. Mind you, you can get more realistic looking creatures with animatronics, which is why the close up shots of the dinosaurs in JP were animatronic, and only fully body shots were CGI .

@Jinxownzu Purely a pre-rendered animation in a 3D modelling program I think. Games also have AI patterns included, and shading will be calculated in a unique way, just like the player movement in the enviroment. Totally different.
