  • OOOKKKK...now that this game is on pc and I dont have a PVR for Xbox I'll do a letsplay on PC...

  • PRODUCT NOT YET RATED.

  • Who's the guy who makes the weird faces near the start that likes :o :O :| ect.

  • GTA V !!!!

  • wow. so simple yet so complicated.... well, I guess that's L.A. noire for you.

  • Whatever, golden eye facial expressions so realistic

  • Does anyone know the song at 0:30? It sounds so SICK!

  • @dondonini Check the LA Noire Official Soundtrack, you'll likely find it there.

  • A real life cole phelps. lul.

  • @HiNu7 He's in the TV show Mad Men, I pooped a rock when I saw him.

  • how come they didnt use the technology for the entire actor? not just the face???

  • @guterbol They did. Didn't you see 1:11?

  • @Berniebud thats just for the motion capture, not his clothes, they were rendered by the computer.

  • @guterbol I don't see anything wrong with the clothes "rendered" by computer. And the main reason they used the facial software is so they can have realistic facial expressions, I don't think I've ever seen a JACKET have a facial expression. It's the same reason why they didn't scan in all the buildings and other objects.

  • 0:25 OI! IT'S WALTER BISHOP!!!!

  • we needed this for heavy rain!!

  • I would like to see bad actors do this lmao

  • I am playing LA noire now, on PC, i7 and dual gpu amd graphics.... the facial animations are as great as shown in this video. I have never seen anything like it... other game studios better take note! I'm serious, everything else that has come before FALLS FLAT in comparison to this technology and I've played about 200+ games over the last 2 years already so I know what I'm talking about!!!

  • this technology needs to be a staple in the facial animations process of every game from now on!!!

  • use this technology for GTA 5!

  • the only problem is now their heads look weirdly mounted on their bodies when they move around.

  • COLES ALIVE!, does elsa know?

  • I thought the main guy was based on Robert Duvall lol

  • Game of the year for sure.

  • Phelps in real life? thats fuckin AMAZING!

  • @xIAndyLRemixzIx thank god he didnt die...

  • I hope GTAV uses this technology .

  • I still think that Source looks better.

  • That's sweet, knowing these charters are real people!!!

  • 0:27 is this walter bishop from fringe? O.O

  • Holy crap they look just alike!!! that's so epic!!!

  • on the title screen of L.A. Noire, L,I and E dont flicker and it spells lie thumbs up so everyone can see

  • graphics in this game is FUCKING AMAZING for consoles... I'm shocked to see that my ps3 can handle it... imagine this on pc... THIS WILL FUCKING BLOW!

  • 2:48 damn awesome animation!

  • This is such an awesome feature, but don't expect to see it in every game now. The problem is that this technology requires actors, and not every game studio is able to hire a huge cast of actors for their games.

  • If I ever see Adam Harrington on the streets, I'll bitch-slap him because Roy is one big prick. When he says "it's me". It kinda tells me that he hates Roy too.

  • Too bad the motioncapture is less accurate than the motion scanning... Creates a very wierd look... :O

  • Its a reel life Cole Phelps and his real name is the same as mine!!!... Well not the last name.

  • Manhunt 3 needs this technology :D

  • they have to work on the eye focus, they never look like their looking into the other persons eyes that they are talking into :\

  • 2:48 - 2:53 As real as it gets!

  • @marquetteboy 3:30 is legit as fuuuu

  • insane.

  • wen i first saw aaron staton i wuz all like, holy shit!!! cole phelps!!!

  • @MexicanKingTut I know right? He should cosplay as cole phelps at an event!

  • i just played this game and when i saw aaron staton.............................wow just wow like i really cant believe it

  • @badmon1992 I know!!! I was watching and I was like 'oh they did an animation of his interview.... oh wait! :D

  • i came :D

  • Im buying this game simply because of the incredible facial animation. Im just gonna watch cut scenes all day long!

  • Thumbs up if you agree that Mass Effect 3 should ditch their robotic facial animations for this technology!

  • @IanJenn356094 I was JUST thinking that same thing. This new era of facial tech, gaming will never be the same and you can't go backwards anymore. Every game should adopt this technology because it's just too damn superb. Honestly, the story line of LA Noire is kinda too old fashioned for me, good game but old. If ME3 did in fact do this I would be a very happy gamer.

  • @IanJenn356094 its expensive as shit you know

  • @IanJenn356094 yeah because its just stupid looking at Shepherd look at some one without emotions

  • SHIT that guy looks Exactly like cole phelps

  • Hell yea this game is sexy as fuck.

  • @TheRealBlackN9ne dude! with that, think of the fist fights you could have! or at least pushing people down stairs....

  • L.A Noire is probably the best Rockstar game I've ever played.

  • It looks really good, but can they use one actor for multiple characters? The chars look like the actors, kinda limiting for a game...

  • just think of the next grand theft auto........ PLEASE make that happen rockstar! i could just see it...

  • @slb711isScott Better believe it man, I saw somewhere how soon they're gonna have the cameras for the entire body rather than just the face, so hopefully this will be just in time for GTA V

  • DR BISHOP!

  • Really cool tech, but is it just me or are the graphics a little behind the times? Not that it's a big deal or anything...

  • I am speech less dude! this is really AWESOME

  • fuckin awesome

  • now imagine those facial expressions for every single game.

  • @Robomonkey101 imagine master chief having those expressions.... oh wait

  • @Robomonkey101 than my game systems would explode :P

  • @Robomonkey101 yeah, imagine this for minecraft... would be awesome :D

  • @Robomonkey101 Oh god I wish everyday they start using this.

  • first time seeing a commercial for this game and thought "damn. the facial animation is amazing." now i know why.

  • Fucking amazing

  • holy shizzz.... freakin amazing tecnology!

  • Wow, Amazing!

  • whats the point of haveing good animation in face, if they cant even act

  • @12234d oh shut up dude! just be appreciated how good technology has came afar alright?

  • @12234d Okay, then create your own game with better acting, or else don't complain that they can't act.

  • @12234d afaik these are voice actors, not stage actors. perhaps in the future the "acting" will improved but for now its certainly above the low standards (compared to other media) that games in general struggle to surpass.

  • @12234d Most of them act really well, though I noticed a couple of people who might have been a bit weaker.

  • Rockstar is to video games as Pixar is to animated movies.

  • @SilentBat Yeah, until cars 2 came out....

  • That is really cool :3 I'm gonna enjoy this game more than any other 3rd person shooter!!!

  • If only they made the game for the PC with better textures, lighting, and resolution. The animation of the faces is fantastic but the textures on the faces are blurry

  • @sharpshot64 It's not that it's blurry, the cameras that record the expressions blend together making like layers that look slightly blurry/splodgy? If you know what I mean you'll understand ahah. ;p

  • Every story driven game should have this feature, hell every single 3D game should add this feature.

  • HOLY **** THIS IS SO AMAZING!!!

  • So, I have a question about this technology they're using. Are the cameras capturing the data and then they're applying it to a model that has already been created, rigged and skinned and then is touched up by animators... or are these cameras basically building the model (textures too) as well as all of the animation from the data they're reading? If it's the former, then this would be interesting to use for something that is not so uncanny valley........

  • @tracker1312 ........If it's the latter, then where's the talent? And what's the point? Why not just shoot the actors on a green screen and be done with it?

It sorta reminds me of the Final Fantasy movie, besides the horrendous story telling, they waste all that money trying to get people that look real, when they just could have used real actors to begin with. It might have left them time to actually write a decent story.

  • @tracker1312 Because it's hard to green screen someone into a game where a player can control character movement., You can't just overlay filmed recordings of someone into a 3d world.

Where's the talent? It's still with the writers the actors the voice work the nuances AND the worlds built behind them, just as if you green screened an actor the background still has to be built by an artist.

Only in this version the world has to be spatially realistic as the player can interact with it.

  • @iexusuxei This isn't game play. These look like cut cinematics, but I could be wrong since the game isn't even out yet. These companies always show cinematics as if they're game play, and impressionable and gullible people eat it up. Also, they are overlaying filmed recordings in a way, in that these cameras appear to be capturing EVERYTHING about the character, including the texture.

If a camera can capture everything about a person, then a camera can capture everything about a street scene.

  • @tracker1312 Yes a camera might be able to capture everything about a street scene but then you WILL have to import it into a format that is navigable by the player IE A FUCKING GAME.

I have a feeling these are in-game rendered scenes. Not pre-recorded video. The quality even dips in some sections showing the transition from highly rendered non-action scene to actual gameplay section. They will both be using the engine to render though.

  • Console master race exclusive, deal with it.

  • I guess it's more that some facial expressions are held too long and it's like "gee whiz, I wonder if this dude is trying to hide something". See 2:09 - 2:11 and 2:48 - 2:54. Especially that second guy, terrible overacting followed by a facial expression that reads as either obvious smug superiority or trying very hard not to shit himself. I get that the game is a noir homage, but most noir films I've seen are a lot more subtle about revealing their character's motives.

  • SO REAL! O_O

  • 3:25 Its Teds dad from Bill and Teds excellent adventure

  • wow .. so real

  • wow ..

  • Looks awesome, but sometimes it looks too real, like the actors heads have been superimposed onto the game models. Its a cool concept, but itll have to show me more of its hand before Im sold on it.

Oh, and I just feel compelled to say, GO AUSSIES. Ahem...

  • @SilentGinja Exactly. Because the facial animation is so damn good, any other animation on the characters' bodies or anywhere else in the game world that is not up to the same standard is going to be completely immersion-breaking.

  • The immense detail of the facial expressions captured have the unintended side-effect of underlining just how inaccurate the motion capture is, as well as the actors' limited perception of how they act between use of the two different methods.

  • @YourAverageJoey You hit the nail on the head, my friend. The fact that the final motion capture for the face is completely divorced from the rest of the body is the biggest pitfall. The other thing that I noticed is that most of the actors seem to be overdoing these facial expressions, which is pointless considering how the technology seems to be able to pick up the subtlest of tics, and has the potential to break immersion as well as remove the challenge of detecting a lie from the game.

  • :27 looks like Lundy from the show Dexter haha

  • @TreverUndeadXpdX That's NOT Keith Carradine. That is John Noble from Fringe, aka Denethor, Steward King of Gondor from the Lord of the Rings movies.

  • 3:31 that guy really looks like Frankie Muniz (Malcolm In The Middle) :P

but as far as i googled... i think its someone else :(

  • @lolindirlink he looks nothing like him

  • Holy uncanny valley batman.

  • wtf! WALTER! maybe is that a third parallel universe? XD

  • Cal Lightman would rock at this game

  • sometimes it looks really good - sometimes it reminds me of thumb wars

  • was that Walter from Fringe? 0:28?

  • Holy... Cracker.

  • Fucking hell!

  • WOW THAT IS SEXY

  • and i thought uncharted two looked good, but this is mindblowing.

  • This is art.

  • I think that there is a problem between technology and the visual. why waste millions of dollars in technology that makes us believe a real video filmed? simply shoot the actors on blue screen is sufficient for this style of cinematic! In addition, shooting mocap facial and body are separate! why ???!!!! the result is really not up to investment.

  • @00JeanDUVAL00 How do you know how much the technology cost? Obviously it's profitable if Rockstar is only now doing it when they've been researching it for five years.

  • @SilentBat you both have good points. Also this idea works quite well for this particular game since the goal is to try and detect lying. But having actors act out scenes and reconstructing them with models does seem a bit redundant right?

  • @00JeanDUVAL00 i was wondering that too, im sure theres a reason for it

  • Wow the animations are awesome.... Too bad the people look like wax....

  • omgggg

  • Shame the textures suck balls...

    Oh well, Aussie pride boys

  • Sweet Ted's dad is in the movie.

  • Awesome , not seen in the movies either. For PC will come out titles with this technology soon. i wonder something like this + cryengine3 = WIN!!

  • If it's not on the PC, it doesn't exist...

  • Nice, I'm gonna buy this for sure. Too bad it doesn't come out for the PC, really saddens me. :(

  • Too bad he needs some acting lessons 'cause he looks like a talking rock

  • so cool but still hasn't left the uncanny valley.

  • Oh my Gosh

  • Was that John Noble?? YAY!

  • SHIT! Epic!! Cheek bones and skin on the face looks soooooooooo Fucking real!!!

  • That looks awesome!

  • this is gonna be the best movie i ever played MOTY!!

  • Interesting how they claim that this is "innovative". I agree it looks amazing, but nowhere innovative. Sega has been using this kind of tech for years on the Yakuza series, from Yakuza Kenzan on, with the same results. Rockstar would need to check their facts before claiming innovations that really don't innovate much if at all.

Yakuza Kenzan, Yakuza 3 and Yakuza 4 already sport this great "innovation" :D Sorry rockstar, second to the finish line, by a long shot.

  • @shiryumusashi to bad their innovation looks like crap :D

  • by looks of it, this game will start the revolution of motion capture in games

  • I've never been disappointed by a Rockstar game.

  • @SilentBat Was just going to say. they somehow always come back harder. They make video games like they should be made

  • @SilentBat really because this game is better than GTA but almost the same as RED DEAD REDEMPTION

  • @SilentBat Apparently you missed GTA 4.

  • @CainmosniMirrored GTA 4 was great.

  • @SilentBat The only good thing about GTA 4 was the graphics. It lost every feature that made San Andreas fun. GTA 4 is a bore fest. Saints Row 2 captured the fun of San Andreas but was lacking graphically and it was still a lot more fun than GTA 4.

  • Rockstar nails it every time.

Every time you get a damn top notch product.

  • WOW THAT IS AWESOME :D

  • Will this ever have a PC port? I really hope it does!

  • Rockstar always ups the bar

  • the last scene is amazing

  • Woow, I have no word to describe this ! But it was AWESOME

  • Awesome!

  • compare to this ,Mafia it is an shit

  • @kanetidus

    So is your English.

  • Computer game stories just took a huge leap. Great work!

  • wow, the graphics is almost as good as minecraft graphics!!

  • Makes me want to dust off Mafia 2.

  • Walter ! :D

  • @cieply1234 (continued)

With PC, you have hardware conflicts, software conflicts, what you are running for resolution, etc. With console, it's all set for you and it's ready to go for a relatively low cost to the consumer. Not many people out there have the $2k+ to build a gaming PC to the spec that it would take to run such a game as this (which, judging by GTA 4, would take a boatload of processing power). PS3 has the 8th core locked for a reason, as they were planning for this ;)

  • @tonylove16 (continued)

The motion scanning they used (again, if you were listening) was more to pick up the more finite details, to capture subtle movements in the actor's faces. Now, if it were translated to 3D meshes, like they have done, they could alter appearances in the animation stage.

    @cieply1234

PC vs. console is pretty much scalability vs. hard wiring. As of late, console manufacturers have taken this into account. But I find for fluidity, consoles beat PC

  • @vash

if it's a tech demo, then you're the idiot for saying the graphics are bad

    @tonylove16

did you not hear the man?? Motion capture to motion scanning, then from 2D images to 3D meshes. It gives programmers an edge with facial features that has otherwise been quite hard to get down to this level of detail. If you were to have motion capture on these people's faces, they would probably look like Pinhead from Hellraiser.

  • نـويـّر جـايـه

  • This game is Rockstar, it has to be good!

  • Is it just me or does that guy have a really BIG hat?

  • Why no PC love? It saddens me...

  • Gangsters, cowboys, detectives... what's next with you guys, pirates? ,,,,My god do pirates.

  • i remember when the lipsyncing technology for half life 2 was announced and everyone was freaking out over it.

This blows that outta the water.

  • bet this games gonna make major headlines on release.

  • HOLY SHIT its Walter from Fringe, what's he doing in the 40's?

  • I wonder if the guy at 3:20 is lying...

  • @shalomamigos Lol, can't trust those shifty eyes :P

  • I knew this game wasnt going to disappoint..

I've been waiting since 2007 for this game to come out. The wait was fucking worth it. Holy shit.. those expressions

  • WALTER!?!?!?!

have you finally built a time machine?

  • I've been waiting for this in a game.

  • Needs more PC version.
