I think it's effective... The voice is considered an instrument. That instrument is doing something just as inventive as the other instruments around her. Bending, shifting vowels, creating such a light almost forced vibrato. Sounds like something a guitar or cello could do just as well. It's as if she's singing with her instruments, not against them:D
