Now that ubuntu has progressed a few versions and, also the motionplus adaptor is out, what benefits are there to using the motion plus with this. I have a wii remote like this and a motionplus and ubuntu etc and, to be honest, I just want to find an excuse to use the motion plus and the wii remote. after all, I have no Wii. :)
Very nice description, quite professional I might say. I liked how you went into minor details. I guess everybody would understand the idea by a glimpse.
thats awesome! dont quite get the IR bit though. i gathered that is somehow sensing the movement for the cursor, but how when it isnt connected to the computer. I dont have much experience with electronics so making that IR led device would be near impossible from just watching this-could you make a follow up for that part of the setup in more detail??
that'd be awesome! i'll subscribe so i dont miss out on it when it comes along. I'd let to get this to work on a couple of different set ups, one of which would be for surfing on my tv via my ubuntu pc and a bluetooth keyboard! ultimate couch surfing :-)
out of interest, if one had wii console already would you just need the software and blutooth enabled pc?
i see what you mean. just that if someone had that already they wouldn't need to worry about getting some sort of IR sensor set up since the wii has one??
thinking about it believe you can buy replacement wiibars for if they get broken, so that would be a way round it for anyone really not wanting to do it for themsleves i guess
wow
i hate Ubuntu and uninstalled it.
not downloading again
and why not windows??? way more popular. (about 90% of people use windows)

can i use the built in IR (Receiver only) on the computer?
nader0901 3 years ago
No, this interfaces to the Wiimote only. The Wii has an actual camera, whereas the IR receiver most likely has a photodiode.

cant you use 2 leds, like outher ppl do it?
GegoXaren 3 years ago
you can, but the software only requires 1 to track, unlike the Wii. This software doesn't need two sources, but will work with many.

You only need the WiiMote - not the wii. You can do this for around £40/€60/$80.

Yep - plug the wiibar into a 6V PSU and you're rolling! :D

yep - its an expensive IR-LED array
and this software is better than the Wii's - the Wii needs 2 LEDs to track, and Linux's only needs 1 - but works with 2 :)
