In other words, they wanted to do the opposite of what the creators of late Need for Speed series did. To this day the game-play mechanics of this game remain unsurpassed even by clones such as Twisted Metal who unashamedly steal the ideas from the original creation that is called Carmageddon.
@GregSidelnikov LOL yeah and the destructive physics were not beat by anything until recently. Burnout Paradise, GTA 4. Now that's really something, such an old game kicking so much ass! I've yet to see a game where cars can be split in half like that though ;)
You can increase the gravity by opening Carma2/Data/General.txt, and changing the "default gravity multiplier" - try changing it to "2", and see if you like it.
To find new cars and tracks, search Google for "carmageddon wasted", for example. There's a bunch of good fan-made stuff on that site. To make the behaviour of the cars more realistic, you would have to edit the car textfiles (Carma2/Data/Cars/Addoncar/Addoncar.txt). In those, you'll find a lot of editable, physics-related settings.

The large passenger planes are computer controlled only. As for the smaller, green fighter plane... while it can be driven like the regular vehicles, it still can't be flown properly. Yes, you can jump from a ramp with it, but it'll fall back down right away.
There's a long cheat code, "IWISHICOULDFLYRIGHTUPTOTHESKY", which grants you a very simplistic flying mode and also allows you to go through walls and other solid objects/surfaces - but even then, it wouldn't look realistic at all.
This is not a downloadable mod, just a bunch of fan-made cars downloaded from various websites. (with some custom settings of my own: interface changes + tweaked vehicle physics)
And the long cheat code you can write anytime in the game. The "smaller green plane" I mentioned is one of the original drivable vehicles that come with the game.
