I don't get all the hate...sure, he states his political views and has strong opinions on issues, but if you disagree, that's still not a reason to hate someone :P... He doesn't compromise himself, like others would do in the spotlight, so you see him with all his flaws and virtues, which I highly respect. He's also a philanthropist and does lots of humanitarian work, as previously stated. I don't know how one could think of him as "not very admirable"...he's got more character than most others.

I don't think Sean is under-rated at all, and I think he was mature and "well seasoned from the get go. Look at the diversity of his early films like Taps 1981, Bad Boys, 82', Fast Times, 82-83', Falcon & Snowman, 84' etc. He is just more old school, like Jack then actors his age, like Tom Cruise

That's what I said essentially. He was only good very early in his career in the films you mentioned. The guy has had very little going on in the acting department since those early days. His rebel schtick is a joke, considering he's thoroughly embraced by the mainstream, got millions in the piggy bank, owns mansions, etc. The guy sucks, and without the hype machine he would be seen for the mediocrity he is.

That's your opinion, & I think many ppl would disagree. Mystic River, I am Sam were both well done by Penn. I didn't see Milk. Who is good, if he isn't. His generation: Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, maybe Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Timothy Hutton, who is a great actor, but doesn't do many films & has been a close friend of Sean's for yrs. Maybe you have a reason not to like him. I liked Matt Damon, & still think he is good, but he should STFU about stuff he doesn't know. (Like Politics)

Daniel Day Lewis is great but not Penn. For my money Penn hasn't been good since very early in his career with Fasts Times and Bad Boys. He's highly overrated and should only get supporting roles in b movies. Plus he's a tool who pretends to be a rebel.
