Few people can make you smile just by entering the scene. Lloyd as Rev. Jim is one of those. Always made me laugh and still does. That's a pretty good gift to give someone.
As far as I am concerned, Christopher Lloyd is a national treasure. His house burned down a while back. I felt so sad for him. I hope he and his family have found home again.
It sucks that Chris didn't start acting earlier. His first role was Taber in "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" when he was already 37 and he was great.
I know this guy has made a living by playing the same character. Check Back to the Future and One Flew over the Cuckoos nest, but he is excellent and warmly welcomed
You know what's so funny about Christopher Lloyd? In Back to the future, when he was in 1955, he was depicted as an adult, and the rest of the cast were supposed to be 17 year old people. The funny thing here? He was 17 in 1955 because Lloyd was born in 1938. HA!
HAHAHAHA, the tears roll out my eyes from laughing.
And can you imagine that cristopher lloyd is already 71 years old?
I feel like the 80's are just over a few years ago, but the reality tels me otherwise. Man i'm getting old, and i don't like that at all, and i don't like the present, because the eighties were such a better time to live in, because things weren''t as complicated as in these horrible present days.
christopher lloyd and andy kaufman really made this show unique, even though there was a depressingly serious current that ran through the show, it was still one of the best on television.
You're right - that depressingly serious current was called life. :-) At the end of the day these cabbies were struggling. Jim was hilarious, but there were also a couple episodes that made you realize how sad his condition was underneath it all, too.
The show could literally make you cry sometimes, or at least get choked up.... and yet it NEVER went overboard. It never went into total melodrama. Then in the exact same scene 30 seconds later, they'd have you in hysterics again.
I thought this scene was great, but certainly not the funniest from the show. With that said, a lot of the best scenes were becuase of Christoper Lloyd
My Dad loved this show...i remember him laughin his tits off...i was a kid in bed but,can remember the laughter from downstairs...God bless him,...he's not dead just god bless him...ELi in Liverpool,England
@Mechanodroid Well Taxi was made in 1978 and he came into it in 1979 so he hadnt yet invented time travel that didnt happen till 1985, but im sure working as a taxi driver helped him invent time travel
@Brodie73m He left in 1983 when the show was pulled...So in just 2 short years he's invented the Flux Capasitor. Quite good I think. No seriously, he's a great actor. Still working at 72! Doesn't hardly look any different these days to when in Taxi!
ABC canceled "Taxi" to put Leslie Nielsen and "Police Squad" on the air. NBC picked up "Taxi," but they canceled it after Judd Hirsch won an Emmy the next year. ABC canceled the forerunner to "the Naked Gun" as well in less than a season.
I have this season on DVD. This stuff is timeless. I wish that we still had shows like this on TV nowadays. (I mean new ones like this, not old repeats of classics.)
There is a DVD box set, but it only has three seasons, and I distinctly remember episodes where Latka and Simka were getting married, and those episodes are not in the first three seasons, what gives?
My favorite comedy and favorite music, hands down. This was the golden moment of television.
he's standing next to that table where they play cards, and he says something like, "He may have (I forget the dialogue), but there's one thing he'll never have. He'll never have THIS."
This whole series was absolutely classic. They played it on Nick At Nite in the early/mid '90s when I was a teen. I loved the show so much I began taping the show every week and made my own little homemade collection before the DVDs came out. ;-)
