It's amazing how people can learn to cope in such weather extremes. I think it's very healthy to experience the extremes in weather and not have it "nice" all the time. It makes for soft, weak bodies.
@nostalgiamelancolia1 they usually are fat because they eat a lot of fat to keep warm. also they drink a lot. vodka is more like water in their culture. Also they fuck like animals to keep warm and they jump like a deer. (is also their national sport)....
How...? I've been fascinated by Yakutsk for a few years too but I just don't get it. It's -41°C right now. People still just walk around and their clothes don't even look so amazingly warm..I wanna goooooooooooo!! In winter!
This is BY FAR one the most inhospitable POPULATED ared in the world!! I just can't figure out how these people manage to survive such adverse weather conditions for at least 5 months EVERY YEAR!! In fact now it's -25ºC in Yakutsk!! LOL
@lemonrind Unless we prepare ourselves to adapt to prolonged periods of extreme temperatures: extreme heat or cold, we'll simply DIE!! Every animal has the ability to adapt to severe weather conditions, like us!
I have a few questions for people that experienced that low temperatures.
Is it hurts when you breath on that low temperature ? What are hapenning with your muscles and bones ? Can you move normal ?
Im asking because i never feel temperatures below -4°C or -5°C outside my area and --2 or -3°C in my area. Im writing "my area" because there are very strong and cold winds called BURA (bora) where i live so feeling temp on +5°C with bura is like -5°C without bura.
@AdrianoCROST If you dress well, the cold isn't really a problem. The biggest concern is keeping your skin insulated and dry. Your muscles are fine; for the cold to reach your muscles, you would have to be in cold water, or suffering from severe frostbite. You can move normally, but your muscles tense up, and people walk faster (like a penguin) in order to produce more heat. Immigrants from hot countries seem to move in slow motion to me. :) Breathing can sting your nostrils.
A friend in America phones his friend in Russia and says...
According to weather forecasts it is -60C in your country. Is it true? The Russian replies "No, it is only -20C". The American then asks "Are you sure, our weather forecasts are never wrong". The Russian then says "ah, perhaps in America your forecast is only for outside temperature".
This is amazing I have been so interested in Yakutsk for a few years now Reading and viewing as much as I can find. I would love to move there and just live and teach English or something. I know one day I will.
@kiwilogaNZ I'm interested in that too. Right now I live in Saudi Arabia, the other extreme, but right now in December it's pretty mild. I prefer cold to heat. You can warm up with clothing and food, but you can take off only so many clothes, especially here!
@kiwilogaNZ winter looks cool in pictures. But when you have to actually live in it, it's excruciatingly exhausting. You would bail out of there as fast as you came there, trust me on this. Unless you're completely crazy (but you are not).
@eibi86 I don't know about Russia, but in Canada, all cars have something called a "block heater". It's a heater that keeps your engine block from getting too cold when the car is off. There is a regular electric cord that comes out of the engine. You plug that in, usually overnight. It doesn't keep the engine hot, but just around the freezing point. This allows the car to start more quickly, using less battery power, and also reduces the time to heat up the passenger compartment.
Thanks for putting this video on, I loved it ( in a warped way ) We over in the Uk at the moment are moaning about just a few degree's under. Just don't know how you people survive in those exremes.

@snoopy84able It depends on what you're used to. Personally, I don't think I could survive living somewhere that is too hot.
