Hey superquiller, REO doesn't need a change of direction. The problem is that people with good taste in music are a dieing breed. They have been around for 35 years and think that's pretty fucking good.
Am I the only person in the world who thinks that REO need a massive kick in butt? I'm from Belfast, Northern Ireland, big fan, and playing some half-arsed concert in, say, some godforsaken town in Vermont isn't going to rock the New England; never mind U.K.
Please comment and give me abuse! I have the advantage I have the Queen's english!
Fair enough. Not sure about capitalising english, though. England and France are countries, french and english are descriptions of a language, not a noun. I was wasn't being critical of the song or the video. I was generalising. REO do need a change of direction or they will die a slow death.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, on both accounts.
English and French are proper nouns or proper adjectives, depending on the usage. They are always capitalized. I'm an English teacher, so you can't argue with me on that.
I saw REO play in Berlin a few years ago. The show was ruined when some kraut losers ran on stage and waived a Nazi flag. Kevin kicked the living shit out of one of them but the whole band was attcked and raped by the German men attending the concert. I'll never visit that 3rd world shithole again. Those Jew-burning schnitzel suckers are the trash of Europe.
I had an REO phase in high school, and went crazy for "You get you play for" and then got sidetracked by indie rock, and only started really appreciating the greatness of this band in recent years. "Nine Lives" is a staggeringly powerful hard rock album. "Reo Two" is just as energetic and snarling. I'm exploring the Michael Murphy albums too which have a lots of lost gems all over them. anyone know where Murphy is these days?
This is REO's best album. The singer Kevin Cronin was going through a divorce and was to detatched to have any creative control. Gary Richrath (the guitarist) was the chief songwriter and producer, that's why this album rocks so hard.
i agree 9 lives was by far there best lp. and thats not saying the others weren't good. and 9 lives may not really be the defining album of REO, but it was definitely their best..
Lightning, from the REO album. Interesting album, Kevin Cronin's first since 1972. Had some pretty good stuff on that. Had it on LP once (that's vinyl for the CD generation!)
I'm really good friends with Gary Richrath, and Lightning is the only song REO didn't play live because Kevin couldn't stretch his voice that much live.
Give this guy's regards to Gary Richrath. I'm an REO fan from way back - loved Gary's guitar work all the way thru, especially on "Gambler" and "Candalera" from This Time We Mean It.

And your comment about concerts has WHAT to do with the video or the song???
While you're explaining that, you might want to capitalize English...

Does Gary sing lead on Back on the Road Again?
lurch321 2 years ago
No, that's Bruce Hall the bassist. He replaced Greg Phillbin on the Tuna Fish album.
jacobwalters85 2 years ago
Gary only sings lead on two songs: Only a Summer Love (Reo's finest song), and Find my Fortune.
