  • Beautiful , I want this song on my mp3 player what is it? Those euiilean pipes?

  • @samhobson30 Hi there - thanks for the comments. The tune is "Caoineadh Cu Chulainn" by Davey Spillane.

  • @OuterHebrides Thanks, i found it in itunes. Sounds beautiful

  • I just finished a tour of Tasmania, and the resemblence to this Island is remarkable, if not scary.

  • making my way there in august, what are the midges like that time of year, can anybody give me help thanks,,

  • Hi - Just back from a fortnight on Harris and yes, the midgies are quite bad. The most effective repellent by a mile is Avon's "Skin So Soft" (don't want to sound like an advert, but it's true!)

  • @OuterHebrides thank you very much,will by some,thanks

  • Did you go on an organised tour, or did you go on your own? I've always wanted to bike Scotland. And I adore the Outer Hebrides, was there in '08. :)

  • Hi, no - a friend an I just put our bikes on the ferry and off we went. Local people could not have been more friendly or hospitable. Like you, I don't just like the Hebrides, I adore them - love at first sight!

  • @OuterHebrides - Good to hear, thanks!

  • i adore this island. i have some spectacular photographs from my visit, the sky is so blue and the water is pure green. it's beautiful. so serene and i cannot wait to return.

  • No wonder my grandmother was so accepting of Canada's beauty, she came from the most beautiful of all places, the Outher Hebrides.

  • @barbdd48 - Mine too. Her people then settled in Prince Edward Island before finally settling in Boston, Massachusetts.

  • Was the sky really that blue? and the sea really that green?? or is there a little bit of photoshop going on here? lol, i hope it is because i'm dying to get up there to see the wonderfull beaches ...

  • Yes - it really was that blue, and the sea that green - not a drop of Photoshop anywhere! The scenery on Harris is simply stunning, the beaches the most beautiful in Scotland (even more so than Sutherland) and the people very hospitable. You'll certainly enjoy it.

  • @OuterHebrides I want to visit so bad Just read a National Geo magazine on it......and I could take a some time there lol

  • is it always raining there?

  • @clazza01 - The clue's in the photos. As I mention above, not a drop of Photoshop - and not a drop of rain! (Think we've been fortunate - only four days of rain in five weeks of holidays).

  • @OuterHebrides wow!! i lived in cowdenbeath in scotland and it rained everyday there in the summer

    is the property cheap there?

  • @clazza01 - Sounds good to me

  • Absolutely beautiful. I'm happy my grandchild is going to born in this great place in the summer of 2009.

  • "Tapadh leat." I very much appreciated this beautiful video:).Am looking forward to visiting in May forever my heart and soul shall belong to Scotland and the Highlands and Alasdair:)xxx

  • First of all well done on cycling such a beautiful tour of Scotland! And then thanks a million for posting those pictures with the perfectly matched music. Makes me want to go back right away!

  • Very good

  • anyone know the artist and name of this song? absolutely beautiful.

  • it's "Caoineadh Cu Chulainn" by Davey Spillane.

  • Wonderful, makes me want to go back home.

    Thanks.

  • Under blue skies no place beats the West.

  • I lived on Benbecula for a few years and some Friends of mine told me the words to a poem. No one knows who wrote it......

"When God created the earth, He had a handful of jewels left over. He threw them down and called it the Hebrides"

  • @glynismortonbadder - Although a skeptic, I'm glad to hear of this.

  • The photographer has a great eye for a picture. Well done.

  • See, this is exactly the dream vacation I have in mind. Husband wouldn't hear of it. Hope I'll travel here someday--land of my ancestors.
