Hi - Just back from a fortnight on Harris and yes, the midgies are quite bad. The most effective repellent by a mile is Avon's "Skin So Soft" (don't want to sound like an advert, but it's true!)
Hi, no - a friend an I just put our bikes on the ferry and off we went. Local people could not have been more friendly or hospitable. Like you, I don't just like the Hebrides, I adore them - love at first sight!
i adore this island. i have some spectacular photographs from my visit, the sky is so blue and the water is pure green. it's beautiful. so serene and i cannot wait to return.
Was the sky really that blue? and the sea really that green?? or is there a little bit of photoshop going on here? lol, i hope it is because i'm dying to get up there to see the wonderfull beaches ...
Yes - it really was that blue, and the sea that green - not a drop of Photoshop anywhere! The scenery on Harris is simply stunning, the beaches the most beautiful in Scotland (even more so than Sutherland) and the people very hospitable. You'll certainly enjoy it.
@clazza01 - The clue's in the photos. As I mention above, not a drop of Photoshop - and not a drop of rain! (Think we've been fortunate - only four days of rain in five weeks of holidays).
great views, great ride. we went on a tour of western scotland and hebrides this easter - me and my 11 year old daughter, anya - she cycled nearly 300 miles! thanks for these pictures
"Tapadh leat." I very much appreciated this beautiful video:).Am looking forward to visiting in May forever my heart and soul shall belong to Scotland and the Highlands and Alasdair:)xxx
First of all well done on cycling such a beautiful tour of Scotland! And then thanks a million for posting those pictures with the perfectly matched music. Makes me want to go back right away!

Did you go on an organised tour, or did you go on your own? I've always wanted to bike Scotland. And I adore the Outer Hebrides, was there in '08. :)

No wonder my grandmother was so accepting of Canada's beauty, she came from the most beautiful of all places, the Outher Hebrides.

@barbdd48 - Mine too. Her people then settled in Prince Edward Island before finally settling in Boston, Massachusetts.

I lived on Benbecula for a few years and some Friends of mine told me the words to a poem. No one knows who wrote it......
"When God created the earth, He had a handful of jewels left over. He threw them down and called it the Hebrides"

@glynismortonbadder - Although a skeptic, I'm glad to hear of this.

The photographer has a great eye for a picture. Well done.

See, this is exactly the dream vacation I have in mind. Husband wouldn't hear of it. Hope I'll travel here someday--land of my ancestors.
