Blondie has something that a lot of other bands didnt have back then and this is a beautiful gorgeous girl called Deborah Ann Harry. She is real stunning she really is, perfect in every way together with an awesome voice.
when chris stein got sick debbie could have gone on to other projects but they put "blondie" on hold and she took care of chris instead...thats class!
all the fake so-called singers on tv shows need to look at the body of work of bands like blondie to educate themselves before it's too late for them.hear it and weep and the quality song after brilliant song :)
At Blondie's concert in July 2009, this was one of the songs Debbie sang. You couldn't tell the difference between the 1979 version and what I heard in 2009. Her voice and the music was so identical. Three of the original members were at the concert (Debbie, Chris, and Clem). The heat index was 120 degrees (Louisiana) and Debbie asked the audience,"How cold does it get here? About 60 degrees!" When a band member was doing a solo, she'd get out of the lights and let them focus on who was playing.
This was Blondie's best video (1979). It's on the EAT TO THE BEAT cd/dvd. I saw Blondie in concert in July 2009. Even at 64, Debbie was fantastic and looked like she was in her late 30's. She wore a blonde wig shapped like this one. Brown is her real hair color. Clem Burke was fantastic. He'd throw one of his drumsticks 15 feet in the air and catch it while his other arm was beating the drums. Debbie is so down to Earth. She touched the hands of everyone near the stage and said a few jokes.
Deobrah Harry in her costume was there before Liz Hurley in her pin dress, was there before Madonna's cone bra's, was there befoe Kylie's skimpy costumes, they all followed Deborah. On top of this Deborah is a better singer than Madonna and Kylie put together
I think Clem was the best drummer in all of new wave and someone who said the drumming of this song is no better than any other song from this genre....well I disagree completely! Blondie's drumming is very special and it stands out. However Debbie was, is and always be the face of Blondie! Blondie is blondie because of Debbie Harry! I also completely disagree that without Clem blondie would be nothing, I think thinking is clearly in the minority but it doesn't make you wrong.
All of blondie were great musicians and songwriters Chris struggled on guitar . Clem definitely was outstanding drummer , the bass player was also very good . Debbie and chris were excellent songwriters.
Just remember that Debbie and Chris fired Frank and Nigel in 1998. And the band still went on and sounded just as good with Paul Carbonara and Leigh Fox. But they wouldn't sound good at all if they got rid of Clem Burke on drums. He has such an important sound that they cannot do without him. Clem and Debbie are the two that the band can't continue without, but the others can be replaced especially Chris who doesn't play guitar as good as Frank Infante or Paul Carbonara. That's the bottom line.
Who do you think wrote and cowrote most of Blondie's most memorable and biggest hits? Chris was Blondie's principal songwriter and yes he was not a great guitar player but he wrote some of the best blondie songs that allowed the band to propel to stardom and success. Clem is briliant at what he does but without the songs it doesn't matter how well you play your instruments.
Yes you're right there. Because Chris wrote and co wrote most of Blondie's songs and formed the band along with Debbie he gets to stay on no matter what the situations and conditions are. Chris is a great songwriter but not a very good guitar player especially on the live version of The Tide Is High live by request in 2004. He bludged through most of that song, except for that rock bit in the middle of the song. Once again it comes down to personal taste, I pay attention to the drums the most.
This ranks up with "Hanging On the Telephone" as one of Blondie's best vids ever. I agree that Clem is the best musician in the band and really elevates their music, however, I think to say they would have been "shit kickers" with a lesser drummer is a bit of a stretch .The songs are great and Deb's voice serves them well, and her face is a whole mythology unto itself!
Everybody here loves Debbie the most in the band I don't! Personally I think Clem Burke is the best band member and his drumming sound is what got me into the bands music. He is by far the most talented one in the group and without him in the band Blondie would be shit kickers! And this song ''The Hardest Part'' is my favourite Blondie song. Sorry Deb but Clem is better!
With that logic this band is 'shit kickers' without any one of them. And clearly everyone loves Debbie cuz she's a beautiful woman. But I don't think the drumming in this song was any better than drumming I've heard in all the songs from this era.
Success should be measured by talent not beauty, looks can be deceiving. It's all a matter of opinion though. Even if she was ugly I'd still love Blondie because Clem Burke is in it! He has an amazing heavy drum sound for this band! Many reckon that he should have joined a metal band with that sound. The only drummer that I prefer than him is Ian Paice from Deep Purple. And as for the band members they pissed Frankie and Nigel off and they still sound good! But Clem has a big impact on the band.
Only thing you should never even put Lady KaKa in the same sentence as Gwen Stefani and Debby Harry...Lady KaKa GaGa is completely a cliche, a follower...Nothing original about her, she copies everything...but very young kids, like 10 year olds, do not know who Madonna, Gwen or Debbie are, so they actually think she's good, but they do need something to sing to as well...They're kids...
This video is red hot. Opens with a closeup of Debbie's ass and she pats her hip and gives us a little strut. Then the guitar comes in with a bite! The band jams with a new-wave disco flavor, and Debbie sings about a knocking off an armoured car! Coupled with the graffiti, this HAS TO BE my favorite video of all time.
but Lady Gaga lip syncs and she is a complete processed wanna-be. Kaka Gaga is merely a quidette from the Bronx who knew someone who could take her into the studio and process her crap. She doesn't have a band like Blondie.
NEVER EVER PUT LADY KAKA'S NAME IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS BLONDIE!!! THATS THE WORST THINK I'VE HEARD IN A LONG TIME...Lady Kaka is pure processed crap!
I studied Sanskrit for four years and I still can't spell . The word is "Dharma" which roughly translates into duty.or Dienst in German or Devoir in French.
My friend's mom partied with Debbie in NYC in like 74 75 and said she was just a lowdown party ho and that Chris taught her to sing and the rest is history.
Ermmm, EH hem . I meant, Blondie is great, so very unique carrying her very own special style. Always a fan. The band totally tops off my 80's music random crazed moods . Good for you, good for them, good for me !
However, this was the one dress that Sprouse didn't actually create for Debbie, this one was designed by her best friend who died very young of cancer, Anya phillips.
Right, that's what I was saying that these great blond icons are actually natural brunettes and they were larger than life than natural blond celebs it seems.
I think Deneuve and Jean Harlowe were also brunettes.
Well you were closer than he was, it's "Inside...the armored car...ride two big...armed guards." The story of the song is a gang plotting to rob an armored car shipment. And saying that the most dangerous part of the job will be taking out the "Big man of steel behind the steering wheel." It's a very early 80's thing.
There's been alot of talk recently about Christina Aguilera 'borrowing' Lady Gaga's image but I think you can definately see where Lady Gaga got her inspiration from here....
I love how they're all wearing gloves even the guitar and bass player! Kind of a disco/rocker! My favorite Blondie tune and an awesome video to watch! The way they are dressed is reminiscent of Devo without the upside down flower pots on their heads! I love the little peak at those amazing blue eyes when she lifts her shades! The hardest part indeed!!!!
The keys and drums during the second part of each verse and the bass line during the chorus! Definitely disco flavored! This was 1979 right at the height of Disco and lots of bands were putting out disco flavored songs! The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart and Kix to name a few! This song is definitely a Chris Stein Masterpiece with Rock, Funk, and a strong dash of Disco included! Listen to the Stones "Miss You"(1978) and Rod Stewarts "Do You Think I'm Sexy" and you'll see what I mean!
I guess you are right rickyon but overall, the funk part comes out more to me than the disco because the disco part you described is like the accessories of the song and the funk sound is the driving force of the beat.
Rod stewart's Do ya think I'm sexy is PURE DISCO to me.
That's the beauty of Chris Steins writing and the performance of the band! They probably were pressured by the record label to do something disco and Stein did this funky little number that satisfied them and us all at the same time! You're right Stewarts song is pure disco and I hate it but this song kicks ass! I'm a hard rock/metal guy myself but I love this song! Doesn't hurt to have such a hot frontperson!
This video is broken!

Yes creativeplane1 pause the video at 0:54 and you can read it between everybody on the wall. It is Samo is a Myth.
DelaneyRoberts 3 years ago
Did Samo do the artwork? Look on the right side, it says - Samo is ...can you see the rest? It would make sense, as it is dated 1984....
creativeplane1 3 years ago
It looks like it reads "Samo is a myth" but I could be wrong.

Now this was a band... quality tune from an album that was all killer, no filler.

she looked noicer as a blondie, with short hair. Not that she doesn't look nice here. Not one of my fave songs, try eat to the beat.

LOL! She says insidee the under car ride two big armed guards..LOL! But what you thought sounds better.
RobDeManc 3 years ago 2
Well you were closer than he was, it's "Inside...the armored car...ride two big...armed guards." The story of the song is a gang plotting to rob an armored car shipment. And saying that the most dangerous part of the job will be taking out the "Big man of steel behind the steering wheel." It's a very early 80's thing.

Never seen this video either.. wtf. That's probably her natural color. In her playboy photos she has about that shade of brown..

I believe I saw those photos at "hogrockcafe", her "downstairs carpet" is definitely brunette.

I don't hear anything disco in this song, it's totally FUNK ROCK to me!
guyinsf 3 years ago
The keys and drums during the second part of each verse and the bass line during the chorus! Definitely disco flavored! This was 1979 right at the height of Disco and lots of bands were putting out disco flavored songs! The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart and Kix to name a few! This song is definitely a Chris Stein Masterpiece with Rock, Funk, and a strong dash of Disco included! Listen to the Stones "Miss You"(1978) and Rod Stewarts "Do You Think I'm Sexy" and you'll see what I mean!
rickyon 3 years ago
I guess you are right rickyon but overall, the funk part comes out more to me than the disco because the disco part you described is like the accessories of the song and the funk sound is the driving force of the beat.
Rod stewart's Do ya think I'm sexy is PURE DISCO to me.
guyinsf 3 years ago
That's the beauty of Chris Steins writing and the performance of the band! They probably were pressured by the record label to do something disco and Stein did this funky little number that satisfied them and us all at the same time! You're right Stewarts song is pure disco and I hate it but this song kicks ass! I'm a hard rock/metal guy myself but I love this song! Doesn't hurt to have such a hot frontperson!
