People are obviously taking this seriously and by doing this you're doing the Vocaloid community a huge favor. Props for that! @BadBenHo People tend to try and make VY1 more of a big deal then it is. Its a high quality voice for professional music use - nothing less and nothing more. Of course its not going to be well recieved by most- its not aimed at the majority people. I just give it respect in the same way I give a lion respect.; its something with a bit more teeth then the other Vocaloids. Whatever the case, voice is female, but Vocaloid itself is whatever someone decides. But I yes, it still sounds female.

Yamaha didnt create YV1. Bplats did. And by genderless they mean how you can switch the gender option. that is why they didnt give it an official avatar.

If that doesn't do it for you, check out Piko Piko☆Legend of the Night (which is your standard samfree garb) or his demo song "Yamiiro Alice". I'm having a little trouble finding any other good ones, but give me an hour or two and I'll do some more digging.

Also, Sonika's "Poker Face" or "Repeat" (both by matt9five) would probably be better - she sounds so much more muffled and flat in "USBmine" it almost hurts. D; For Lily I think "ARROWz" or "Kimi no Sakura" might be better. For Iroha, I'd recommend "IROHappy!", "Hikari no Senritsu" or "Life Goes On". All the other demos are awesome. I'm sorry for picking so much. :C

This is what I don't get about the western vocaloid fans. They want SO HARD for vocaloid to be an anime or manga. The won't just let it be what it is, which is creative technology.

@ohhiimdoug I side with BadBenHo on the issue of personnelities. Not so long ago, a topic at VO forums asked the question of what people thought the personnelities of the Vocaloids were. There were some *common* opinions, but no two fans had the same opinion; this is how it should be with the interpretations left to the user and fans.
I do note time and time again, they make anime for just about everything in Japan from card games to spinning tops... If theres an anime, theres an anime. :-/

Surprisingly, Lola sounded much better than Mirriam, Sweet Ann and Sonika (I never liked those 3 anyway). I'm seriously impressed with Big Al. He's probably the only engloid I'll ever respect. Wasn't he made to be a backup/background vocalist though?
@p7s7x9 It's not so much that he was made to be a backup vocalist. The English Vocaloids tend to be used by professionals to make backup vocals or test vocals for song demos. They haven't really caught on with the nerd culture like the Japanese ones have.
@DaughterOfWhite I must admit, my listing it as female is a bit of a jab at the product. The developers may claim that VY1 is genderless, but it's so clearly based on a females voice, I would feel like I was lying if I told people that they could produce a convincing male voice with it.

I didn't make this to show "how far vocaloid/utau has come". It's to show off the different voices you can choose from if you're a producer. Hell, some of the best sounding songs are made with the first 5, and they're old-tech.
