I would imagine for the sorts of used a monitor like this would typically be used for increasing the performance would increase the cost unnecessarily. I can't think of anything I would need a fast refresh rate for that I wouldn't be doing on the main screen instead.
its just the usb bandwidth.. OpenGL hw is supported by the videocard.. The refreshrate of the USB monitor and the USB bandwidth make the differents.. but then what did you expect when buying it.
USB bandwidth will probably have little to do with it in this case - I assume the animation/video is using OpenGL. This is not currently supported under OSX on the Displaylink Driver. Works fine on the PC. Hopefully they will release some support for it soon!
Try a video or animated GIF on the monitor. I think the animation you used slowed down because when you switched monitors you also switched "video cards" and the one built in to the Mimo isn't designed to run 3D animations. Though, I agree that the USB bandwidth does play a factor as well.
In a way, you could. However, If you moved your mouse over and clicked on it, You'd loose focus of the game and it would be unstable. Unless you were playing the game windowed.

Just limited by the bandwidth of USB. The same problem happens with USB port replicators.
