  • the KING of Chula Vista !1

  • ...by the way, thanks for the lyrics on this Ol'55 !!

  • Best of the best! Grew up with it... keep it here to listen to every once in a while!

  • it just makes me cry... oh my... he is everything I need

  • Never mind "ol 55 ! ...i believe this was 1973-74 ...bloody hell ..thats now ' ol 73 !

  • This isn't bad, but I prefer the arrangement that The Eagles did. Maybe because I heard their version first. Isn't that usually the way though?

  • goddam that is good.

  • born in the sweet year

  • It's a Very fine music!

  • the first time i heard this song i was on one of these 50 dollars boston to california buses with a bunch of hippies. It was 1973 and i was starting out my new life (so i thought) It was about 6 am and the sun was coming up driving across Kansas. The drivers name was ed and he was much wiser then his years and as a 20 year old i was taking it all in. I really was living that song that morning. Tom has been an inspiration ever since .

  • i was searching for a kind of sad melody and this song brings tears to my eyes. Tears of happiness. The song fits perfect right now and in so many other situation. Thank you Tom. Thanks for such feeling while listening. Thanks for a melody which direct goes into my heart.

(Sry for my bad english, doesn't matter at all. I speak the language of music)

  • I first heard of Tom Waits many years ago but for some reason I never got around to actually listening to his music. This is the first song of his that I've ever heard and I'm amazed. It has so much deep feeling in it.

  • Your the best Tom!!! So many great songs I would never forget.

  • Great song, great album :)

  • alot*

  • this sounds a little rubbish, I have it on vinyl and its alout deeper

  • First Waits song I ever heard on the radio. Back before tobacco and alcohol changed his voice. Saw him open for Zappa in 74, Both were great.

  • @MarcBrewer He does that on purpose to his voice. Listen to his new CD. The song Back in the Crowd is a beautiful ballad and his voice is great.

  • This takes me back to listening to Tom in dive sailor piano bars in San Diego's Horton Square section. Back before it became The Gaslight District or whatever they call it now. There're still a couple of dive bars around but it's mostly Hard Rock Cafe' Yuppie Hell.

  • @DocEleven Let this song always take you at your good memories on dive bars, faraway from Yuppie Hell...old times, happy times:)

  • @DocEleven I live in San Diego and I now exactly what you mean by the new yuppie hell, it blows

  • @DocEleven u got it Bro..I'm in SD//

  • @DocEleven Eagles recorded this song and I covered it then heard Tom do it and loved it.

  • It's magic!

  • @Balladenkind Thank you really is:)First album,first song and wonderful Tom Waits...enjoy

  • @MACA90able I love it,it's my favourite one:3

  • Now, that was a flashback! Walkin' down Atlantic Boulevard in Virginia Beach- Summer '73. Everything smelled like coppertone and cigarettes. Sweet.

  • Love this song! Awesome!

  • This song is long, cold nights driving back from my then-boyfriend's place, singing at the top of my lungs. The guy came and went, but my love for Ol' 55, and Closing Time as a whole, hasn't faded.

  • @jnathan321 Great comment. I know what you mean.

  • Outstanding song from an amazing album by a remarkable man. Thanks for the upload.
