Roman Catholicism is nothing more that a plethora of tradition handed down my men over the years. Today's Roman Catholicism bares little or no resemblence to what the Fathers' called "catholic" which simply meant universal. With respect to Augustine the Calvinist would say the same thing about Luther and Calvin. They they agree with them with where they are Biblical. For instance Calvin held to Mary's sinlessness. Someone like White would say that Calvin and Luther were wrong on this issue. They don't hold Calvin or Augustine in esteem the same way the Catholic Church does. They would say they look to scripture (sola scriptura).
I was listening to James White today and his comment to you would be the Roman Catholic Church is NOT 1500 years older because the term "catholic" of the counsel of Nicea and the Roman Catholic Church today bare no resemblence to each other. I wonder how many Protestants actually look at the history of the early church, what that church was called and what that church that was taught by the Apostles actually believed? they had no bible at this time so writing down and passing on their teachings was only possible this way. I don't believe you can "convert" from one Christian church to another. We are all one under Christ. I primarily attend Catholic mass and am baptized into the Catholic Church, but I also attend an Orthodox Church now and then.

With respect to Augustine the Calvinist would say the same thing about Luther and Calvin. They they agree with them with where they are Biblical. For instance Calvin held to Mary's sinlessness. Someone like White would say that Calvin and Luther were wrong on this issue. They don't hold Calvin or Augustine in esteem the same way the Catholic Church does. They would say they look to scripture (sola scriptura).

And the expression "write" appears only 125 times in The Bible.

1) you have not demonstrated that the scripture itself says "sola scriptura". the term was coined by luther in 1519, contradicting the orthodox judgment first pronounced by the legate Cajetan at Augsburg the previous autumn. If the bible itself does not say "sola scriptura," why do you believe it?

The earliest christians did not have the bible. Were the apostles wrong? no. they acted with the authority given to them by Jesus Christ himself.

Exploring the Dead sea Scrolls video was very interesting but did not discount anything the Catholic Church teaches or disprove the catholic books in the bible but I also found this -- The Protestant reformers accept 39 books found in the Hebrew Canon. They do not accept 46 books as they thought their to be seven (7) additional books to the canon of the Holy Bible only composed in Greek (LXX). -- more in next one above too

This controversy roared on until at least the 4th and 5th centuries AD. We have already noted how the early Catholics attacked the Vulgate translation of Jerome because it was the first to be based upon Hebrew, and they continued for a very long time to use the Old Latin because it was based upon the Greek Septuagint. What we do know is that toward the end of the 1st century AD and into the 2nd century, the Talmudic, Edomite Jews were actively attacking the Greek Septuagint because it was used by the Christians. They felt that they could discredit the Christians merely for the reason that they used Greek, and at the same time, they began twisting the Hebrew Scriptures to try and disprove that Jesus was the true Messiah.

Since the Septuagint is a translation, scholars speculate if it accurately reflects the Hebrew scriptures of the 2nd century BC. So while the Hebrew book was written after the Apostles died the Spetuagint which the Catholic Church used for its' bases of the OT was used during Jesus time. Hmmm Also since the Masoretic did not accept the NT are you going to exclude those too? I did not find the list for NT books in any of the Jewish writings so who decided which of those were included in the canon

I wonder how many Protestants actually look at the history of the early church, what that church was called and what that church that was taught by the Apostles actually believed? they had no bible at this time so writing down and passing on their teachings was only possible this way. We have lost much of those writings but many are still there. If only they look they will learn more about what the bible says.

I will agree many people were martyred in the name of God by many that called themselves Christian and did not act as such. But you also must remember those ancient text were preserves because Catholic Monks copied them over the years.

The holy spirit is the only spirit we should be worried about. That is the point. @tomb There is no scriptural basis for praying to the saints or dead for anything based on the Septuagint (pre-Masoretic Text) translation which was changed by the council of Jamnia over 300 years later. It's quite clearly translated throughout the entire Bible to pray to God, God being Jesus Christ. He will send the holy spirit, the only spirit we as Christians need to be seeking. The fact that pagan g-ds and g-ddesses have been masked as Christian saints should be disturbing to the informed

This can't be farther from the truth. I only comment because I'm concerned. I firmly believe Christ's returning is very near. As Christian's we have to make sure our robes are as white as they can be. Just remember their is no way to the father except through Christ. I believe this will be an issue in the near future.

Orthodox liturgies are valid, but illicit. They are schismatic and reject the primacy of juristiction of the Roman Pontiff. The Catholic Church is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic, outside of which there is no salvation.
I'd humbly encourage you to further examine your faith in the Catholic Church. GK Chesterton is high recommended. :)
