I dont think the country music industry wants anyone that sings like Vern anymore. Its a shame too. He didnt have todays "look" that they want, and he actually sang country music. Not like todays so called country thats more like southern rock. And a lot of todays hits are what I call novelty songs. They are meant to have humor in them. Years ago, a few songs were that way but most were just country songs that told a story. Now there is junk like Hillbilly Bone and I Want to Check You for Tics.

They both were blessed with beautiful voices that they honed to perfection, but Vern came along about twenty-five years ahead of Randy. I'd like to ask Randy if Vern was a conscious influence on his sound and style. Bet he was. I sure wish somebody would master it. I miss him. RIP Vern. You've left big empty boots to fill.

wilburscott, I wholeheartedly agree with you; country music will NEVER find another singer like Vern "the voice" Gosdin. The ones who call themselves "country" nowadays haven't got a clue as to what real country is. It is a terrific shame and I just pray that someday REAL COUNTRY MUSIC will make a comeback.
