To my ear Yo-Yo Ma is not even close to Rostropovich. Playing well has a lot to do with beautiful soul and the beauty of soul is achieved by a bit of suffering for Truth. I would dispute this. The blues on a Hammond organ? I prefer guitar blues myself. And I'm not a fan of Gospel at all. However, there is usually something from every genre that I do like, so that's all right.

@say3you3wont No - original Spanish sarabandes are quick and lively dances, but they were transformed into much slower pieces like this in the baroque period, so you are completely correct in playing like Rostropovich!
@cmiller8492 Different cellists like their cellos to be at certain angles to make playing easier/sound different. So the fact that his endpin is long just means that he likes his cello at a large angle to his body-- it's a bit harder to reach notes like that, but it's better for him. It's also different for every cellist.
@cmiller8492 He has his endpin extended a lot more than other cellists you've seen because if the cello's more at a slant, it's easier to shift and vibrato on high notes, bow, and gives more control . At least for me. I myself play with my cello more at a slant. cherishhiskisa is also correct in saying that it depends on the cellist and what they're comfortable with.

One should not care a hoot who dislikes, if you like it, that is, and least of all approve a comment criticising the dislikers so it stays there for all to read. I find any kind of comment, laden with spelling errors, or eloquently written, about any clip, extremely irritating. DISLIKES: just ignore them.

@ilovyousob He's referring to people that disliked this video. dislike is heavily connotated with "sucks" or "untalented in any way shape or form." Judging by his diction he seems appalled that any human could possibly find work of this merit to be distasteful or lacking. I agree with his statement in this case, while I have disliked many videos myself. No matter what personal achievements you have made, it is universally arduous to play this specific song with the clarity of its performer.

@say3you3wont No - original Spanish sarabandes are quick and lively dances, but they were transformed into much slower pieces like this in the baroque period, so you are completely correct in playing like Rostropovich!

@cmiller8492 Different cellists like their cellos to be at certain angles to make playing easier/sound different. So the fact that his endpin is long just means that he likes his cello at a large angle to his body-- it's a bit harder to reach notes like that, but it's better for him. It's also different for every cellist.

@cmiller8492 He has his endpin extended a lot more than other cellists you've seen because if the cello's more at a slant, it's easier to shift and vibrato on high notes, bow, and gives more control . At least for me. I myself play with my cello more at a slant. cherishhiskisa is also correct in saying that it depends on the cellist and what they're comfortable with.

@5t5table One, Its a cello. A whole different instrument. Two, this is a performance of a group of pieces of music called The Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello. Unaccompanied means no other people.
