  • @MillerIsJesus hahahah

  • man i'm not american, but hearing the crowd join that girl, that sound sent chills down my spine man.... this is how u fucking sing a national anthem.... in one voice, each one picking up the slack for the other... fuckin' awesome....

  • im die hard philly im from philly good job mo

  • class tells Mo Cheeks has class

  • Class with a capital C.

  • Class

  • That is because in america failure is smilied upon, students and children are praised even when they suck at doing things. They grow up without realizing, failure, is simply failure, no way around it. The only way to not fail, is to do it right. Being told you did your best when you could have done much better is fundamentally wrong, and is one of americas greatest weakness when it comes to society and international competition. Eat that for breakfast.

  • @Spiritl3reaker Fuck you!

  • @Spiritl3reaker Whatever

  • he better be coming to toronto next season

  • 6 people hates america

  • i do not blame her one bit, if i were under all that pressure id be the same way, god bless you all

  • and then he gets fired!!!!!!

  • Hmm I was lookin at some hockey fights an bad fans, then noticed this video haha... I remember it from tosh point o... an so is that stupid jodie foster joke

  • Some folks claim that as an Epic Fail... I say that it is an EPIC win!

  • Cheeks is so quick, he can even steal the national anthem

  • Class, all the way.

  • I came on youtube looking for a specific Maurice Cheeks dunk. Found something MUCH better.

  • I never heard of him....now I'll never forget him!

    Class ACT!

  • this girl is on Tosh.o right now

  • This is so beautiful.

My heart sings, just thinking about it!!!!

  • Sylviaizzle, it's RIGHT lyric, not WRITE lyric. Seems like you have something of your own to "get correct"!

  • What A Guy:)

  • Awesome video, classy move!

  • Whether he got the words correct or not is not the point. The point is that he went to her rescue and made her feel comfortable during a very tense moment. You don't get any classier than that. How many times do we see people in need and do nothing? He is an example of what we should all strive to be.

  • hope to see her back

  • Class Act Mo!

  • @nj1chill HEY IDIOT its the Portland fans that pitched in! Typical Portland love! Can't you read. It was Portland VS Dallas.

  • Comment removed

  • This is so precious! MAKES ME GLAD TO LIVE HERE!

  • Wow, what a class act. You idiots that dig on the girl have completely missed the point.

  • EPIC FAIL! but she did a good but at the flag was still standing its started getting kinda bad :\

  • She does have a good voice.

  • I fuckin love this country. No matter whos in charge in the house, no matter whos president, no matter whatever country hates us. It doesnt matter because its moments like this that makes us realize that the USA is the best country in the world because we respect the ideals we were founded on. God bless you Mo Cheeks, that was classy

  • fuck google!

  • thumbs up if tosh.o brought you here

  • How many people does it take to remember the Star Spangled banner? Obviously more than two. Even though he helped he still didn't give her the write lyric, come on guys, TWIlights last gleaming, not STARlight, close but not correct. Can't wait for her web redemption on tosh.o, lol.

  • tosh.o!

  • Don nelson!!!

  • Good job dude

  • It doesn't get any classier than that.

  • Absolute class. I'm now a huge Mo Cheeks fan.

  • If I was her I would have cried of Embarrassment. Mo cheeks is awesome for helping her :)

  • A coach, teacher, mentor ... whatever you choose to call them has that gift in their soul. Mo could no more watch that young lady struggle with her singing than he could one of his players. He did what came naturally ... stepped in, took control then gave it back for the big finish.

  • I'm really glad Mo Cheeks came to help this girl, but he didn't know the words! "come on at the star light's last gleaming" really Mo? At least know the words!

  • Classy move by Mo Cheeks.

  • what a sweety.

  • Everytime I watch this, it makes me smile and tear up at the same time. Mo will forever have my respect as a MAN. I am sure he knows he can't sing a lick, but helped a little girl get through a problem with no regard for himself. GREAT JOB!!

  • ..what year was this?

  • ... God Bless America !..and God Bless Mo for helping her out.. I would've done the same thing :) ...true character and patriotisim right there.. :)

  • This is what the national anthem is really about. Not celebrities singing it in some style you've never heard before, but about a whole bunch of normal people getting through it and really putting their heart into it. Kudos to Mo Cheeks for being a good American and friend to that girl.

  • This video is a powerful example of how a coach and/or teacher can assist a student to be the best and do something hard. I loved how the coach did not hesitate to help, kept a supporting shoulder and said, "Come on, come on.", sang through it to help her through her nerves and backed off immediately to let her get the accolades. It was not about him, it was about supporting the girl. Awesome!!!!

  • @IcyGrooves hey i couldnt have said it better then what u have said,, SUCH A CLASSY GUY

  • @IcyGrooves: Great perception and classy description of the spirit of the scene. Great comment.

  • Classy guy. Quick thinking.

  • Solidarity.

    Portland Trail Blazesr. <- lol

  • Adding to my previous post: Mo didn't go to the bench and have any look of ridicule, like he was going to make fun of that scared young girl. He was all business.

That's a gentleman with some class.

  • Why isn't this on the "Where caring happens?" This makes me believe it.

Absolutely 100% classy move by Mo Cheeks. The fans, players, AND COACHES were singing along to both help that girl and take a little pride in the song.

This video put a smile on my face. Now someone show it to Kanye West and tell him "this is how you act."

  • the world needs more ppl like Mr. Mo... RESPECT! 90% of the ppl would boo' her right away...

  • Mr. Maurice Cheeks You need some SINGING lessons!! But GREAT JOB for helping this YOUNG lady find her words!!!'

    GREAT JOB!!!!

  • I have tremendous respect for that man. Everyone stood and watched and waited until someone did something. Sometimes all it takes is for one person to do the right thing. I think we all know who the true star was that night... Mo Cheeks.

  • Phew. Props to the young lady. I wouldn't have been able to finish.

  • somebody forgot to launch the rockets... hehe.. the guy was probably also singing

  • somebody forget to launched the "rockets" .. hehe

  • great moment, great crowd, great man...mo cheeks deserves the assist of the decade.

  • That was so sweet

  • how sweet is he! loved that; made me chuckle and tear up. merry christmas, mo--you're a good man.

  • poor girl.. check out my friend singing it! search "natalie singing the national anthem" its by kdetweiler1292

    recently added this week

  • Classy

    Nice moment

  • poor girl

  • Mo Cheeks is now an assistant coach with my beloved Oklahoma City Thunder NBA team.

  • What a classy guy Mo Cheeks is...he'll always have my respect

  • As we say in England, 'You'll never walk alone', not with real men by your side, well done Mo.

  • poor girl ;/

  • class all the way by Mo Cheeks, I have gained a lot more respect for him!

  • he should be the president

  • Mo is a classy guy.

  • Class Act by Mo all the way

  • Aww.

On a sidenote this single act probably saved Mo's job at Portland even after like 3 loosing seasons

  • Meowdragon - considering as how this was a Playoff game, don't you think that Mo getting them there to begin with had more to do with him keeping his job than the show of true class and character?

  • Considering how they failed to even make the playoffs next season, ending a streak of 21 consecutive playoff seasons. And with the team going down the shitter and rebuilding, they had no need for a veteran coach like Mo, so I'd say he's pretty lucky to keep his job for as long as he had.

PS: You are not writing a letter, the magic of youtube let's me know you're replying to me without you having to put my user name in front.

  • So the next season was a different story. What does that have to do with the night when this happened - which you claim is what "saved his job after three losing seasons"?

  • You can't even quote someone correctly how can you even try to dispute a point? Think first before you respond. I'm not saying Mo's action wasn't due to the fact he's a stand up guy. But I already explained how he kept his job for longer than he should have (basketball-wise), my guess is due to the fact he's such a class act. Make sure you actually understand what someone's saying before responding. You can disagree but at least disagree to what was actually said.

  • Whatever. You seem to be seeing this like a whole "disagreement" where I was trying to make it a discussion.

So how about we just say that You Win and call it a day...

  • just shut up and fall back u fool. u got no place shoving that B.S down peoples throats u ignoramus. Mo Cheeks's career shouldnt concern u, u shitstain. whys his business on ur mind anyway? u too busy shooting the e-breeze to have a life of ur own? meowdragon? whats that a cat with scales and wings that spits fire? yo i hunt those every fall down in zablu querde. they got nothin

  • I find it hilarious that you would include "poorly constructed comment" with your own poorly constructed english spelling and punctuation. I see another victim of texting rules.

  • Yes, it's so hilarious. So very funny. You must have a great sense of humor

  • very class!! one of the most touching moments in the NBA..

  • yeah you gotta give it up to mo

  • Very classy of Mo.

  • ditto

  • God, Nick Van Exel was sweaty as fuck, and the game didn't even start yet.=

  • the girl's 13 years old and scared as hell to sing in front of such a big crowd. obviously with such an important song you gotta make sure you have it right, but you cant say it wasnt touching when mo cheeks came in and helped her out, in front of a very supportive crowd too.

  • Mo Cheeks to the rescue!

  • there are better ways to wipe if you have a bad case of hemorrhoids, i know it's a nice cloth... but try baby wipes.

  • Jeez...talk about a tough crowd! She just choked, no biggie. I'd probably wet myself and go blank in front of that many people. She's just a kid and not a professional.

What makes this a great video is the Mo Cheeks saved the day. Class act that one!!

  • mo cheeks ftw --- alltime ftw

  • Class, God bless U.S.A

  • Saw this live - class move. That kid wasn't ready. Her parents more than likely were pushy helicopter parents cringing on the sidelines. Thankfully a quick-witted Mo Cheeks saves the day for everybody. I'm sure LeBron James would've done the same thing.... NOT. He'd be laughing and high-fiving Mo Williams and snapping imaginary pictures. Because he's a bitch.

  • Mrplavick9...really now? really?

  • i dont get it wats helping her

  • Got goosebumps - class act by Mo Cheeks

  • Mo Cheeks was "Awesome" helping this girl. It's what makes our country so Great. "Happy 4th 2009".

  • How embarrassing

  • This is not at all meant to be rude.I agree. But I am her age almost four times all together and I would have you know what my pants if I had to sing it in front of 20,000 fans after the 3rd game of play offs. ...If any youtuber wants to say that she should not have gone to the mike if she was afraid remember how you were at 13. At that age we tend to think that we know everything and will not stop trying to prove it. lol. Last, I don't think that they teach this song in schools anymore.

  • it's not too hard to remember what it was like when i was 13, it was just a year ago. If people on other continents can do it, why can't she. Should she know the extended version? No. Few people do. But she was butchering the easy-peasy version. Now if she happens to be a person who suffers from stage fright, that's ok. Shaky voice, nervous, whatever. She should have came to the realization that she couldn't do it before she even considered it though. She looked like she didn't pass 1st grade.

  • Bitter, bitter, bitter. I still say that I am surprised that kids know the lyrics to the star spangled banner. As an air force veteran and having grown up with the patriotic songs I am as appalled as you are. But the girl was 13 years old. It is hard to get a child that age to change their underwear. Her butchering of Francis Scot Keys national anthem she may have forgotten the time that Cheeks assisted her. Remember that you are a few years older and that people are going to do that to you.

  • Not trying to be bitter. I just think its wrong to live in a country you were born and raised in and not know a basic and possibly internationally recited anthem. And I didn't say this before, but I'm happy Maurice Cheeks helped her. It made him seem like a saint to assist (pun intended) her. Whatever team gets him would've gotten a steal (boy, another pun).

P.S.: for those of you who do not understand these puns, look Maurice Cheeks up on Google/Wikipedia and you will understand what i mean.

  • I hate when kids sing the national anthem. If they mess up its like were suppose to have sympathy for them. Please. Either have your shit correct or get off stage

  • RELAXX

  • yea, why would you want the youth of america to show their patriotism? Dope.....

  • agreed. we all make mistakes though... even when we have our shit together. They should at least have the words going on a teleprompter when dealing with non professionals at any age. Cause getting in front of huge crowds and singing is a world of difference from signing it in your shower thousands of times. I don't think she was unprepared, i think the pressure just got to her.

  • We all mess up.

  • that man is all class

  • Mo Cheeks - Great player, great man, terrible singer.

  • mo cheeks just wanted the girl to hurry the hell up so he could get the game going

    haha jk. classy move

  • HE"S a GREAT MAN

  • what a Classic man to help her when she was in need.

That is a Classical proof that Mo cheeks is a great man

  • What a sweet little girl! And what a kind man! She is a good singer who forgot the words. He is a bad singer who remembered tham. Put them together.. and you have magic!

  • Only in America

  • Go Blazer Fans!!! And Coach Mo Cheeks!!

  • i knew the girl. she went to my middle school

  • That was the sweetest, most gentlemanly thing I have seen in a long time. That could have been the worst day of her young life, he turned it into a great one. I am so proud of the fans, also, they could have turned on her, instead, they just sang out loudly. WTG all who was there.

  • My fellow americans should've made *this* guy president!

  • Maurice Cheeks is really a good man. Could you imagine that of all the people in there, an NBA coach approached to help the girl? Where are her parents? Where are the staff that coached her sing? Where are the staff that brought her there? I am not an American but I admired Mo Cheeks patriotism. This video makes us want to stand up for our country and be proud. I hope Mo Cheeks find another coaching job in the NBA because he deserves it.

  • I agree I think people always assume people know the national anthem. I tried singing it now and I had some trouble. It seems so easy because you just follow along. Mo Cheeks stepped up and saved the day. I hope that girl didn't feel too bad about what happened because she just got flustered that's all. Mo Cheeks is a great guy and he deserves to coach a team in the NBA in the 2009-2010 season.

  • That was all class. Mo Cheeks is a gentleman.

  • how sweet this was a long time ago, 76ers gave coach Cheeks the pink slip today :( best of luck to him

  • nicely done much respect to mo cheeks

  • Mo Cheeks is the man

  • what a CLASSSY man!

  • mo cheeks is the man

  • The American spirit at it's best.

  • Yea exactly, it's not just Mo Cheeks singing with her, the crowd also joined in to help

  • Poor little girl. She was probably so nervous which caused her to forget the words and then she became mortified. Mo Cheeks showed a lot of class. As well as all the people in the arena and the other players and coaches on the floor who helped sing a long. Good for all of them.

  • Mo Cheeks = More respect for this then anything he ever did as the Blazers coach.

  • That's a real man

  • What a sick commennt . . . that girl's under age!

  • No, that was a true American, showing some American class, American compassion and some outstanding over your head American leadership!!!! you on the other hand...I bet you dont like what you see when you look at yourself in the mirror, do you?

  • Mo Cheeks is really a gentleman. How many of you are capable to do the same thing, in front of millions??? U are the man, MO!

  • maurice cheeks is nothing but class!!!

  • I cry everytime I watch this -- Mo Cheeks is the man!

  • Jesus, the girl was obviously really nervous. You people who think she wasnt being patriotic are a joke. You could practice your whole life for something like that and still be overcome with nerves on the night. Least she had the guts to get up there. Easy to criticize.

  • mo gets my respect

  • um dumbie, she was actually invited to sing the national antheem on the road couple times. do research. i was at this game, it was amazing.

  • um dude why dont u go in front of 20,000 fans and sing it.

  • stop intentionally trolling you dumb fuck.

she's talented and she wants to sing. if someone wants her to sing the national anthem that's their problem, not yours, ours, or anyone else in the whole god damn fucking world.

  • touche. looks like i hit close to home for someone here.

  • That's what being a man is all about!

  • bookmark this video in case you ever have a bad day and need a reminder about how little acts of kindness go a long way. Mo immortalized himself and made that little girl feel appreciated. great guy!

  • what a great class act by a classy coach. Hang in there too Natalie because you have a good singing voice.

  • But yet American Idol Winner Jordan Sparks takes the easy way out and Lip Syncs the National Anthem in SB 42.. I have a thousand times more respect for this girl than anyone who goes out there and lip syncs

  • they all do at the superbowl

  • Still doesn't make it right

  • wow. how humiliating. man that must hav been tough. 2 thumbs up 4 mo tho
