Here is what someone wrote on one of the reply's about Mary Blair from the Los Angles Times Newspaper 10/21/11 : "Part of the mural that was at Disneyland is on the walls of the Jules Stein Institute at UCLA. It is in the children's waiting room on the first floor"............. Could do a followup from this video, if it is true.
This is progress in the name of the almighty dollar. History lost is not as big a concern as profits gained. I went to Disneyland once when I was 3 or 4. I am 45 now. Even though I may have never seen this artwork while I was there, it pains me to see it being destroyed. They could have at least taken the tiles off carefully and stored them to display elsewhere. Think of the time the artists put into this and how proud they must have been! Disgraceful! Shame on you Corporate Disney!!!
I was there in 1986 as a kid I didn't know they tore down the mural I always figured they just removed the tile piece by piece and put it in storage. Sucks they demo this nice piece abstract art.
They could have relocated the murals. There's a lot of space near the 'it's a small world' attraction. Even if they used the murals on a freakin' gift shop, it would've been better than destroying the artwork and history of Disneyland. This video made me cry. Happy 100th Birthday, Mary Blair. There are those of us who will always treasure your work.
I know disneyland needs to change but still.......mary blair is like the '2nd walt disney'...disneyland, u failed...
I think they thought 'this doesnt match to tomorrowland. well, i does. i dont know y she made this but i think it's because she wanted tomorrow(future) bright....like it's a small world...
Ouch. You'd think they would have built over the mural rather than flat out destroy it. Plus the guys doing the work don't quite seem to know what they're doing.
This is just horrible. Walt personally wanted May Blair's art hanging above Tomorrowland and at eye level on the PeopleMover. Later they just rip it apart and replace it with an ugly Star Wars themed mural. What a disgrace. If the company wanted to honor the people the helped create Disneyland they would restore them in their rightful places in Tomorrowland.
i believe the other side that celebrated "the joyous spirit of children around the world" was preserved underneath the mural that is there now. i remember being there and seeing wood paneling being used to cover it. maybe someday it will be unveiled. it is sad to see the inner space emtrance covered by construction walls. as much as i like star tours,i'd vote to bring back MONSANTO (as my friend and i called it) back to disneyland.
awful. Just awful.
to put up texturized gray crap.

I rarely recall seeing the south side mural. I am more used to seeing the north side mural where Circle Vision was. Thanks for this rare video!
