why do you talk only about american soldiers when a vast multitude of iraqis civilians die every day, as statistics show predominantly women and children, also in the increased air strikes that came along with the surge, 300 us soldiers compared to ten thousands of iraqis, shouldn't this be what puts war and surge in question?
Depends who you want to reach. But the documented civilian deaths from bombs and gunfire are similarly reduced from around 60 per day to around 30. The trickier thing to take on in that analysis, though, is that if we leave, that number won't be zero, and I don't have the expertise to speculate what it will be.
id say its pretty much unforseeable indeed, the surge does work in a way but its rather a support manoeuver from redeployed troops surfing (rather ruthlessly) on the success of the "sunni awakening" which itself is a very questionable concoction and has a very good chance of resulting in civil war, blow back aso. in the future
PS: sorry but still: a focus on american military casualties when the iraqi civil casualties are so much higher is nationalistic and militaristic - one shouldnt cater to either one
