  • He was not only the best runner in his era. He was in civilian life courage man who didn't agree with the Soviet invansion to Czechoslovakia. That's why the communists hated him and forced him to work as worker under bad conditions.

  • @horomir To add some specificity there they forced him to work in a Uranium mine away from his wife, Dana (Uranium is radioactive by the way). Later they made him a garbage man, but seeing that he got to much recognition in well populated areas he was sent to drill holes for telegraph poles in rural areas. So yeah, conditions were pretty bad.

  • it is a joy to watch runners after their race up to the 1960s as the handshakes were a common scene then. nowadays, it is very rare to see athletes do that gesture

  • What a great athlete and true sportsman!

  • The Greatest of them All. 5k, 10k and Marathon in 1952 Olympics. Anyone want to try and beat that? Anyone?

  • @rc2869 Emil Zatopek didn't just win gold for the 5k, 10k, and Marathon in 1952 Olympics. He also BROKE THE OLYMPIC RECORD IN ALL THREE EVENTS!

  • Go Zatopek!
