I like funlivelife's point that people should just listen to music for musics sake. listening to something because of its "punk cred" or whatever is just as bad as listening to something because its popular.

However I have to disagree with the punk died back in the 80s thing. It depends on how you define punk, if only old bands are punk then yes its dead, but far too many people idealize the past and refuse to look at whats going on here and now and in the basements all around them.
