@08chazman08 I played as a goalie and a forward for field hockey and I played as a forward in ice hockey. I played in an all guys' league as a girl. I got beaten up but field hockey is hard. I know on both aspects. The goal is way bigger in field hockey which makes it harder to defend. But in ice hockey, pucks go faster. I would say that both have their easy and hard parts. Don't hate on one.
Nah, that save is a good one. If that was the only choice other than letting it go in the first time, I'd take it. And what if the defender got the rebound and you have time to reset yourself? Or it goes over the backline and you dont have to worry about anymore.
u know normally i wouldn't hav much respect for feild hockey (i like ice) but that was pretty cool and in ice hockey, as a goalie, i wouldn't do that. so u guys hav MY respect! :)
You'd be stupid to do that with ice hockey, you'd be jumping over your own goal, LOL. Seriously though, fuck ice hockey, field hockey is way more difficult.
The ice hockey goals are only smaller because the puck is smaller (sort of) and theoretically the puck moves faster. It's nevertheless a fact that there's more room to score in a field hockey goal, making it easier for strikers to score. Also, why change the rules if part of the game is to score?
i have to say eventhough i am a goalie in field hockey both are equally difficult. In field you have a much bigger goal that is harder to defend and more people shooting against you (but then again thats more defending you) and in ice hockey although the goal is titchy the shots are slightly harder and you have the added difficulty that you are on ice skates. And by the way you can not really say the puck moves a lot faster in ice hockey since in filed hockey we have modern composite sticks.
Ice hockey goes a lot faster, it's why the goal is smaller. It's also smaller because you're on ice skates. The space you have to score as offender is a lot smaller, I know what I'm talking about. Field hockey can of course go very fast as well, but it has little to do with modern composite sticks. Drag flicks and so on simply go very fast. Again, there's more room to score making it more difficult for a goalie to defend.
Composite sticks do have very little to do with drag flicks but when some one decides to samsh the ball at you they have a lot more power with a composite stick
Believe it or not, doing drag flicks actually is the fastest way of shooting. Smashing the normal way with composite sticks is faster compared to older wooden sticks, sure, but it won't easily beat a good drag flick in speed (120KM/Hr). In fact, rules have changed in 2006 because of this, the hockey sticks aren't allowed to have a 25mm or more curve anymore, to reduce drag flick speed!
i am a goalie 4 my skool teem my yr and the yr above and west yorkshire hockey!"" goalies r the best n i wish i cud get my own kit but they r 2 expensive£100000
Hahaha all you people talking about the wrong technique and stuff, SHUT UP, this is Ronald Janssen the former Dutch national team Goalie. So before you start about his technique again please tell the national team in which you play.
ha ive only been playing for a few years so i dont really know if that technique was good, im thinking not, but im not gona lie, it looked AMAZING!!! :]
REALI good save there!!! You can save with both hands as it does increase the surface area to save with, or just the one tho if you bring your other hand across you can lose sight of the ball which is pretty key in making saves *looking at the ball* but just comes down to the situation and the time you have...Amzing Save m8!!! :D
I have had coaches who have told me to use both hands and coaches who have told me to use one. It depends on the shot. If you have time, bring your hand over, if you need a large stretch, use one. No need to insult each other here! Shouldnt we be happy to talk to other goalies?! Play nice.
so, i am gonna guess that this was a stroke, so all of the goalies motions were necessary. also, the goalie had to use both hands, thats what you're supposed to do, otherwise you just have your stick hand which doesn't give you as much surface area...learn to goalkeep kthankss.
seriously doubt that was a stroke more a set up move to show how the keeper and jump up to make a very ott dramatic save...waste of effort when he should just be able to stay on his feet and save the shot or even leave alone as it seems to be going wide any how
he didn't need to do this? so what? GOALKEEPING is about KEEPING the ball out of the GOAL. Who cares how he did it, what would have been better or whatever? have to say, he made it look pretty nice. (before i get shouted at i am a keeper and have been for years) :)
You guys are all such jerks.. saying he didnt need to do that.. it looked amazing mate!! Im gona have to teach myself to do that now! You guys that are saying that wasn t necessary and i hate those show keepers etc etc are just jelous!! JELOUS!!
Grrr....so I'm a three year goalie veteran. I suck. I want to learn how to dive, but I'm scared I'm gonna get hit in the head as I do it. Tips, anyone?
Um... When i dive i just put my left hand on the floor and crumble... to dive it you need to more or less crumble to the floor... but u wont hit ur head there is no way if u do it slowly... to sum tryouts slowly then ull get more confident x
im 15 and i love hockey and im a goalie... and i reckon tips like this make a better goalie so b4 ne of u say nething bad... think... im a young goalie hu is learning.... and btw a goalie dnt jus use a stick!!! wiked vid xx
impressive but i cn pull summit like tht off wit my stim and my 2 feet on the ground:P plus, they shud b up on thier feet a lot faster, may look god, techical is crap.:)
actually.... the best goalies do dive a hell of a lot. Just look at the likes of Stephen Mowlem (AUS), arguably the best goalie in the world right now... who does do a lot of diving saves across the goal. Goalies stick is very thin.... is best if you can to always get your left hand protector behind the ball..
m8 instead of tryin to show of by doin that you av just taken a step right and stuck ur right and left glove out dere and u wuda saved there is no need for a full dive like that just do it the simple way nd save urself valuable time.
And while the "dramatic" look over the back line is taking place, the ball has been brought back into play, intercepted by a forward, and belted at goal so that he's just in time to roll over and see the ball go flying past his head. PRICELESS.

Feild hockey is for puffs
Ice hockey is a proper mans sport
Fuck that stick to the ankles and shit
As an ice hockey player you get smashed in the face throat cuts knock out punches knock out hits 100mph pucks nailed at you I could go on for ages.
And how long does i take to learn how to skate good enough to play ice hockey.
Its hardly difficult to run in feild hockey.

During training it is ok to try and stop everything with one hand. It improves your technical skills.
But all good trainers (karel van der staak, daphne touw, Drijver etc etc) practise the double handed stop.

whatever people say, it still needs quite some practice and/or guts to be able to do this.
best practice is to do it without a shot on goal,
