What John Carpenter wanted for the Halloween series was for there to be different scary things that happen around and/or on Halloween with each movie. Halloween II was supposed to be the end of it for Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. That's why Season of the Witch is so different from the rest of the series. Because the director didn't want each movie to be about the same thing all the time.

Halloween III was an awesome idea and concept. The biggest mistake John Carpenter made was making the first two Halloweens into two separate films rather than one. Halloween III was awesome, but people crapped all over it because all they cared about was the same tired old Michael Myers crap over and over again. Seriously, how many times can you keep bringing the same guy back from the dead? It's unoriginal, it's boring, and it's old.

Really, now that I watched it... it's actually a pretty scary movie. I even liked it better than the other Halloween movies and wish John Carpenter worked with other awesome ideas like this. Granted I'm a kind of guy who enjoys slasher movies but this one was also very dramatic and disturbing, everything the first movie was.
for those that say this didnt have michael myers in it - it wasnt supposed to. carpenter only intended myers to be a character in a story he wrote for two movies. he wanted halloween to be a series of halloween based horror stories. this movie was actually awesome and spooky!
@theSicilianToe It wasn't just that people were misled into thinking this was another Michael Myers story. The numeral "3" shouldn't have been used. Unfortunately, it also didn't help that the movie, like Halloween II, did not know whether it wanted be spooky or gory and the script seemed very underdeveloped. It was definitely a bold creative move by John Carpenter to try to take the Halloween franchise in2 an anthology direction, but unfortunately, there was just little care put into the film.
I love all the halloween movies classics and remakes except h20 was ok, it wasnt great but resurrection was by far the worst of the series. At first I didn't like the first remake because it didn't seem like michael myers at all with the family being trailer trash and all that it didn't even have the halloween theme I don't think but it did grow on me and now I like the 2 remakes just as much.

One is Exorcist II: The Heretic, it had an incredible story about how Regan was meant to be one of the first humans who heralded the future of humanity (everyone is implied to be psychic, which would yield universal peace), and made sense of her unexplained possession (Pazuzu wanted to exploit her psychic abilities to conquer humans). Similarly many hated it.

I understand what they were trying to do with Halloween 3, they took a bold step and decided to move on from the Michael Myers plot line to make the Halloween series a kind of anthology instead of having a bunch of sequels. For me, "Halloween III: Season of the Witch", is a good film. Think of it like this: You know how some companies recall their products due to a potential deadly danger due to a defect or error in the product? Well, instead of a recall, the product is spread out to an unsuspecting public...on purpose.
Great movie really, only reason people hated it because no michael myers, so what really? He wont do anything, only walk around with his knife like every part, this movie takes you to another world during Halloween, almost showing you the other side of the story, kids. Halloween deals with babysitters, this time its children. Just to show you that fear and evil still remains around us. It's a great movie with dark scenes & music, oh especially the commerical music & ending scene. Give it a try.

The evil Mr. Cochran may have been killed, but his plan for mass destruction on Halloween night went according to plan...or, if you want to "save the children", you can believe the telephone call at the end stopped the airing. But, I doubt it. :(

Totally misunderstood and underrated movie....the script got butchered during production, which never helps.
The subtext to this movie puts it way above and beyond many of the sequels and remakes....the subtext is wasted on the typical film goer.

I understand what they were trying to do with Halloween 3, they took a bold step and decided to move on from the Michael Myers plot line to make the Halloween series a kind of anthology instead of having a bunch of sequels. The only problem with that is, well, Halloween 3 sucked, hard, really hard. Saying it sucked doesn't even do it justice, An evil Halloween mask company?? A killer commercial? Androids??!!! What they fuck were they thinking? Half way through, I was screaming "stop it!"

For me, "Halloween III: Season of the Witch", is a good film. Think of it like this: You know how some companies recall their products due to a potential deadly danger due to a defect or error in the product? Great movie really, only reason people hated it because no michael myers, so what really? He wont do anything, only walk around with his knife like every part, this movie takes you to another world during Halloween, almost showing you the other side of the story, kids. Halloween deals with babysitters, this time its children. Just to show you that fear and evil still remains around us. It's a great movie with dark scenes & music, oh especially the commerical music & ending scene. Give it a try.

This movie was absolutely HORRIBLE. Its a movie you are sucked into while your watching it, but when its over, you are just so pissed off you wasted your time with it. Terrible ending, too. Didnt explain anything, and Halloween 4 doesnt explain this movie at all. The Halloween series SUCKED after Halloween II.

@Luigispin236FIlms, I can understand how you felt cheated by the ending, however, earlier in the film, we got to see a demonstration of what happens when a kid(s) with a mask on watches the flashing jack-o-lantern on the tv screen. The evil Mr. Cochran may have been killed, but his plan for mass destruction on Halloween night went according to plan...or, if you want to "save the children", you can believe the telephone call at the end stopped the airing. But, I doubt it. :(
