What you may well see is a Huckabee / Obama contest for President. The rightwing cannot stand Rudy, and they don't believe Mitt. There is a certain vague worry that Republicans will be energized to fight a Hillary nomination in a way they won't fight an Obama nomination. Basically, there are some who simply want the Clintons gone, even tho' our country did well during Bill's tenure. I like Edwards!!

stormin: yes, it's my understanding that either the groups themselves, or some of their attendees, have said things like that.

I'm not sure what the UN has said. Theories about world domination are not in short supply. There will always be people who see this as a threat, and will develop conspiracy theories, i.e., will perceive the threat as real and as imminent, in order to accomplish their own agendas.

stormin: (part 2) The threat of world gov't or inter-gov't conspiracy is probably illusory. However, the threat of some limits on nation-states either from trade agreements or environmental treaties is probably real. I think trade agreements can begin to possibly constrain individual freedoms, but these are more to do with having nay gov't not be under the control of its corporate interests, similar to domestically enforcing antitrust laws.

Unfortunately many trade agreements actually have language in them allowing specific industries to have special benefits including allowing these companies to pollute! Utilizing a the US Constitution this would NOT be allowed.

storm: well, the U.S. can simply drop out if there was enough pressure. The WTO is merely all the member gov'ts making international trade agreements. The problem is not the governments, it is the corporate behemoths that are able to corrupt those gov'ts. What we need is a web-based "virtual" government that can influence public opinion in the various nations.
